WARNING TO INTERNATIONAL TENANTS: You inherently unable to receive your security deposit, which for internationals is a full month, because they will only mail it within country. If you are leaving soon after you will not be here to receive your deposit, and trying to get it sent abroad takes jumping through a dozen hoops.
There has been a fatal shooting in this subdivision, a drive-by, and 911's just about daily. So make sure to lock your rickety apartment door. Do not have anything important mailed to you that cannot fit in a small metal mail box or it may be stolen. One of my friends lives in this neighborhood as well and had their tires stolen right off the car, along with a few others that night. As of now, April 2016, there is a ring breaking into cars.
The buildings are not in nearly as good of shape as pictured here. The pictures posted of the insides of the buildings and room are very inaccurate. Expect old appliances, poor heating, very poor design (must be at least 20 years out of style, my floor is a laminate green), counters and cabinets of the lowest quality, and expect only 3/5 showers to be hot.
Do not expect to get great rest. The floors and walls are paper thin, if your neighbor is not a mouse you will hear them. The thin walls and poor HVAC make temperature control nearly impossible within your apartment. The blinds are absolute garbage, so the sun will be entering your room between 6-8 depending on the season. But do not worry that will not be the only thing bothering you. The company Gardencrest hires for landscape will be present at 7 AM until 11 AM outside of the winter, but fret not because the plows and garbage trucks create plenty of noise for the winter season.
Finally the management could not care less about you. Any non-critical work order will take months to happen. They will use every trick in the book to try and scrounge out a dime or two from you.
