I've lived in JP for 7 years. I was terrified of this place for the first 6. There was always some shady character outside the front door, smoking . There still is. But that's ok, go in anyhow. It's really good, you'll see. I wasn't born in JP, so I don't fully fit in, but I'm not a snotty yuppie either, so the hometown crowd lets me dine in peace. So, if you mind your manners and root for the Sox, you'll be fine. Order the steak tips, they're the best thing on the menu and a total bargain. I think they're about $11, and you get a ton of them. A close second is the fried chicken. And their clam chowder is amazing. Maybe I shouldn't let this secret out, but Galway House is a real find, despite its intimidating exterior and way too brightly lit interior.
Pros: Great value, large portions, the steak tips!
Cons: Sketchy guy outside, brightly lit inside
