Lovely Meal 3/16/2011

My boyfriend took me to Francks for a special evening. We had an incredible meal. He ordered the fried chicken (which I have to say is like no other). I had the meatloaf. We shared! It is a bit expensive, but definitely a place to go for a ""special"" night out. more

Unpalatable, disappointing 7/6/2009

I took my wife for our anniversary at the recommendation of some colleagues. The only thing I can compliment is the decor, which was quaint. I was horrified that all my dishes were oversalted. My entree was inedible because it was like a brined meat loaf that my wife agreed was inedible. I asked for another dish and received fish that was very mushy and served rare (not medium-rare, which would have been considered appropriate). I am a sushi fan, but this was not sushi grade fish. The waitress was nice enough but became annoying after each item was brought out and followed by a perseveration about how wonderfully balanced all the seasonings were. Seaweed-banana soup and improperly cooked fish were not the way I wanted to spend my anniversary. Pros: Ambience quaint Cons: Cannot cook fish, chef not tasting food more

Utah's best French cuisine, best fine dinning price. 1/7/2009

Recently dined at Franck's for the first time, and was immediately impressed. The food was amazing, I have never had such a satisfying experience. We had the best pork confit, so tender. All the flavors were exotic and amazing. Our server was wonderful! She was so friendly and anticipated our ever need with preciseness. It was truly an amazing experience! We loved the Chef Cam, you can watch all your food being prepared. All of the staff, so talented catered to our every need. Even running next door to get extras for us. We will be back again, and again! Wish we knew about this place sooner!! Pros: Talented Chefs, service and price! Cons: Not open on Mondays more

Overrated at best 1/1/2009

I've been here twice, and was disappointed each time. (I usually like to give places a second chance after a poor experience.) Both times I found the food to be lacking compared to other nice restaurants in town. Pros: Atmosphere, great wine selection Cons: Poor execution, food lacks sophistication, unfriendly service more

Best New Year's Eve Dining Experience I've had!!!! 1/1/2009

We have lived in SLC for a year now and are slowly trying all of the restaurants in town. Franck's is by far the best we have come across. We made reservations using Round Table. When we arrived we were seated right away. The atmosphere is great! It is one room that is decorated nicely with a cozy fireplace. We loved the chef cam! We ordered escargot which was full of flavor and the texture was just right. The appearance of all dishes was very professional and all of the garnishes and side dishes were unique and full of flavor. The highlight was a white chocolate and pea soup that was truly one of the best soups I have had. One bite offered a trio of flavors. First it was sweet, followed by a vegetable flavor and finally, a bit spicy at the end. For dinner, my husband ordered the elk steak and I had the smoked salmon. Both were fabulous and full of a mixture of flavors. Finally, desert. Again, full of the perfect mixture of flavors! I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone and I know I will be bringing my out of town guests when they come to visit. Pros: Food presentation and flavor, atmosphere, staff, appropriately priced more

The best thing I have ever tasted! 10/7/2008

The single roomed restaurant gave a very intimate feel, and being able to watch the chefs prepare your food was a very unique part of the experience. I was a little intimidated by the menu, because of its uniqueness, however being from the South gravitated towards the fried chicken. It was arguably the best thing I have ever tasted. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere more

Meatloaf better than my granny's! 10/7/2008

Franck's is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Salt Lake. Every time I visit, there is a new item and new unique flavors running through my mouth. At my last visit, I had the Tempura crab, which infused Asian and French resulting in an incredible taste I have never experienced. Every item is delicious, especially his appetizers and desserts. My only complaint is the bright lighting, I wish it was a little more romantic but I guess the almost perfect restaurant has to have some small fault! Pros: Food...everything is amazing. Servers are always friendly too Cons: Bright lighting more

Poor service, poor food VERY EXPENSIVE 9/29/2008

I would not reccomend this restuarant. The food was heavy, cold and tasteless. The service was slow, rude, and unthoughtful. I would stop at a vendor on the street before I would make reservations here again. Pros: Location Cons: Food, service and value more

mediocre food at franck's 9/14/2008

We went there based on a friend's recommendation - and unfortunately had mediocre food. heavy, boring, nothing special. slc has lots of great restaurants; i would not recommend franck's Cons: poor food more

Absolutely incredible! 9/4/2008

I have never been to a restaurant like this before. The decor is incredible and the serving staff acts as if you have known them for years. As you walk in the door, you can watch the chef (who I assume to be Franck) cooking through a kitchen window. He greets you as you walk in, then the hostess seats you shortly there after. Definitely make reservations, though, because it was pretty packed by the time we left. Luckily, we were able to sit by a window, because there are a few tables in the middle of the restaurant that seem in the way and very uncomfortable. Once we sat, we noticed that we could continue watching Franck cook through the TV monitor in the dining room, which was very entertaining. Once the food arrived, I was even more impressed! The food was amazing and so unique. Not a typical french restaurant cuisine but it resembled many french cusine elements I experienced in France. The final bill was a little pricey for Salt Lake but the overall experience was definitely worth it. The fondue was incredible but definitely filled me up so much that I could hardly finish my duck! My boyfriend got the meatloaf and was pleasantly surprised and impressed! I was there during the winter but I hear they have a wonderful patio area in the summer. Pros: Amazing food and friendly staff Cons: The lighting was a little too bright. I wish it would have been a little darker and more intimate. more

The food is amazing, Franck is a very skilled Chef! 5/17/2008

This restaurant has to be the best in SLC. I have been there quite a few times and I have never been disappointed. The menu is a little different everyday and everything I have tried has been exceptional. I love the mussels with pommes frites, one time I had a strawberry soup paired with something really unique I think it was some sort of spicy pepper, anyway it sounded interesting so I gave it a try and it was the best soup ever. I am always willing to try things that I have never had and you won't be disappointed if you do at Franck's. The ambience is very nice. The servers have all been wonderful and have a great understanding of the wine list as well as the menu . Everything from first to last course is wonderful! Pros: The wonderful food, the ambience and the staff more

Most Amazing little restaurant 4/24/2007

This wonderful little restaurant has become my favorite place in Salt Lake. From the moment my date and I first walked in on Valentine's day, we were treated with obvious (though not overbearing) care. Staff was appropriately apologetic that they were late in seating us (it was V-day, after all :D), and were true to our request to sit by the window. Having been seated, we were treated to a delicious fondue of Gruyere, Emmental and Swiss cheese with a delicious sheen of Kirsch that brought out the cheese's warm and fruity flavors: it was served with cubed sour-dough bread, and couldn't have been more amazing. This was followed by a delightful beet salad, accented with goat cheese. Next was an incredible beet soup--it was creamy, rich, silky smooth, and very satisfying. At this point, I was eagerly anticipating the main course, and despite my high expectations was BLOWN AWAY by a dish innocuously entitled ""meatloaf."" This ""meatloaf"" was braised and pulled pork, veal, and chicken, atop whipped potatoes and a berry sauce which was a lovely accent and worked in ways I scarcely fathomed. Finally, for dessert: carrot cake. Once again, the name belies the joy I found in eating it: carrot cake with gorgonzola cream cheese and fresh strawberries wrapped in a white/milk chocolate swirled shell. Simply delicious. I have been back to Franck's 5 times in the last 3 months, and though there have been occasional mistakes and we have been seated slowly from time to time, the staff has always made things right without eliciting complaint beforehand. One last word about the Chef: Franck is beyond reproach. Not only does he perform his craft well, but he notices repeat customers and is sure to welcome you with a smile from his exhibition kitchen. You will enjoy watching him as he prepares your food, and shares the love of his work with you. I will be back many times: restaurants of this caliber are all too rare. (My favorite soup to-date, in case he's reading: green apple split pea!!) Pros: Everything: Ambience, FOOD, Franck, Small, Intimate more
