Flying Sumo

I ate ate the Flying Sumo last night with a group of friends - 8 of us in all. We had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is under new ownership and Emmerson could not have been nicer or more helpful in hosting our group. The restaurant was full capacity - the Tuesday night special is 2 for 1 sushi rolls - there is quite a local following which speaks well for the Flying Sumo. Our waiter was very attentive. We had a Groupon to use for the night and the waiter took the coupon and gave us excellent service without another mention of the coupon. The Sushi was fantastic!!! We ordered 8 different rolls and all of them were excellent and presented artfully. Our favorites were the Tropic Thunder roll, the Utah roll, the Spider roll and the Sunset roll. They were amazing!! We had a delightful meal and were allowed the luxury of not being hurried through our meal - not always possible in a resort town. My friends are planning on getting together regularly at the Flying Sumo. It was a fantastic meal, excellent service and a great setting. more

This is the first review that I have ever written. Flying Sumo's customer service was that bad that I am willing to take the time and write a review. The sushi was very good but our waiter was a completer jerk the entire visit. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a friendly atmosphere. The waiter was no help in giving input on menu items and just seemed put out with every question that we would ask him. He should honestly be fired based upon the quality of his customer service. He would constantly ask us how everything was but then when a member of our group replied with ""I really don't like my dish"" (after just a few bites)...we then waited for a reply such as...""let me see what I can do""...but NO. Instead he responded with ""Well, that's the choice that you made"" and simply walked away. What a total jerk. Good food and good company, but terrible service the entire time. I will NOT be dining there again EVER. Best of luck to you. more

Service was so horrible I don't trust that what I ate was not tampered with. The place was empty and when we told the gentleman we had a coupon, he was immediately disgusted with us. 20 minutes to get a seat. The place was virtually empty. BTW Where we sat was empty the whole time we waited. The waiter was so super rude that when he finally got our drinks out and they were wrong I just drank it. Of course it stayed empty the rest of our visit. Just to top things off when it was time to get our check he kept it in his hands and talked with the sushi chef for what seemed at least 15 minutes and kept smirking at us cause he knew we were waiting. Aside of being a total douche, I suggest the guy take a bath and not drink on the job, what a slob. If you go to this restaurant you either drunk, on drugs, or believe in rewarding horrible service. more

On Friday 12/11/09 my husband and I walked in ready to eat sushi. Unfortunately we sat at the table for 23 minutes watching the wait staff talk and drink coffee and no one came to our table to even ask us if we wanted to order. Sad thing about the whole thing was there were only 4 customers in the place. Needless to say, we heard the food was excellent but never got to try it and wont be going back anytime soon!!! more

I eat sushi, on average, about three times a week. The sushi that was prepared for me a this restaurant was better than some of my regular spots from back home. The wait staff and sushi chiefs were young but very professional which made the experience that much better. I would recommend this spot to anyone visiting Park City and in the mood for some raw fish. Pros: creative rolls and fun staff more

We go to Park City a couple of times a year, and let me tell you, if you go there this is a must stop. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is awesome. A guy named Eric is a sushu chef there, and he is a master. We went there for the first time a couple of years ago and now make sure we go every time. It is the type of place that makes a trip. Cons: It goes off on the busy weekends, which is a pro or a con, depending on what u want. more

The sushi was delicious and the atmosphere is very casual. It's hard to find really good sushi at a reasonable price - and you can totally wear your jeans there. The fish was fresh and the specialty rolls were some I had never heard of before. Love the creativity. Saki-bombs were fun, too! Pros: Yummy Fun Rolls Cons: Rolls didn't all come out at the same time - No biggie though! more

Forget about the other Park City sushi places - this one is IT! The most unbelieveable sushi ever - and this is coming from a New Yorker! Really amazing rolls that do not compare to anything I've ever had in NYC. Top it with friendly service and a great environment and you can't go wrong. Keep it up guys - you ROCK! more

Me and my husband went to the Flying Sumo in Park City on our vacation this summer and it was absolutely amazing. The sushi cheif was so helpful and nice to us. He was also extremely talanted. We loved the sushi. Definately the best I have had in Utah. The service was welcoming and comfortable. We enjoyed the unique atmosphere. I would highly reccommend going there for sushi. We loved it!!!! more

Last winter, when we were in Park City, Utah, I discovered a sushi restaurant which was the most unique atmosphere I've ever experienced. Service was the best I've ever had in years. The food was delivered very quickly and very delicious. The sushi was very fresh and uniquely decorated. The manager approached us, and asked us how we were doing. We told him, the music was loud. They immediately adjusted the volume which suited us. We are sure that we are going to return next year to that restaurant!!! Pros: service, food, atmosphere Cons: waiting time more

My husband and I ate at the sushi bar and I have to say that this is the best sushi bar we've been to. The food was excellent, the service was fast and efficient and the atmosphere was very clean, nice and hip. Fits in great with Park City! We didn't think we could find a sushi bar that topped ""Ah Sushi"" in Salt Lake City, and Flying Sumo is now our favorite. The sushi chef made our food so quick and is was fun being able to see him make all our food. We will definitely be back!! Pros: Food, Ambience, Service more
