Gracie is staying on the rug, and is no longer pulling on the leash. The instructors showed us with their dogs rather than just trying to talk us through it.

First Place Dog Training 3/26/2007

I found First Place Dog Training to be the ultimate training facility for learning the communication skills needed to create a great relationship with your dog. Vince, Kathy and their staff teach with precise precision the art of this communication. Before I started here I had no idea that not only did my dog need to learn, but more important I needed to gain the skill of correct communication with Shaman so she would understand what I wanted of her. I have found this to be more my training than my dog's. If I communicate correctly she has no trouble in doing any command set before her. So I find that my operating skills are usually in error when my dog does not comply. Shaman has been enrolled in Beginning, Intermediate, and graduated to the Advance Class where she has learned Rally-O, Agility, Scent Tracking, and continues to learn new techniques in Obedience.\r \r Shaman and I (she loves to go to her school) would recommend this Training Facility for anyone who is sincerely interested more

Cheyenne's Favorite Place 3/23/2007

I have been training at First Place Dog Training with my seven-year-old Black Lab, Cheyenne, since she was ten weeks old. We started in Puppy Class, did Beginning and Intermediate, and graduated to Advanced "Off-Leash" training at nine months of age. I attribute her passing her Therapy Dog test at just over twelve months to the training she received at First Place Dog Training.\r \r We have continued to attend the Advanced class for over six years, not only because of the bonding experience it provides for Cheyenne and I, but for the fun we have in class. Every week in Advanced is different. We are constantly learning new things. In addition to unique obedience activities, we also do such things as Rally-O, scenting, tricks and agility.\r \r I would highly recommend First Place Dog Training. I not only give the facility 5 "Stars"; Cheyenne gives it 5 "Wags" of her tail! more

Best Training in McHenry County 3/15/2007

Vince does a wonderful job in all levels of training. I have been going to Vince for 6 years now with 3 different dogs. I enrolled an aggressive dog to other dogs in his 3 week private training program. Vince was a miracle worker. I was able to keep the dog because now that dog gets along famously with my other dogs. I have also gone through his puppy classes and remain in the advanced class. My dog loves going to class every week, he even knows what day of the week class is! He loves the challenges in advanced class and is eager to learn new things. Vince provides top rated training and is eager to help anyone having problems with their dog. When people remark at how well trained my dog is, I tell them about Vince. more

helped us alot! 3/8/2007

I have attended classes with several different dogs over the years and have found the training to be very fair to the dog and very individualized to my and my dogs needs. My dogs are all very well trained, Canine Good Citizens and Certified Therapy dogs. They are very well adjusted and very happy guys. Each of my dogs has been trained with the training collar that was best suited to their needs and I was fully trained in how to use the collars I, not First Place, chose to use. My guys LOVE going to Puppy School! more

Great fun at First Place Dog Training 3/5/2007

I loved the group observation and participation. Actually working with the dogs and receiving an abundance of knowledge from my experienced instructor Vince is a great learning experience for me. And the positive reinforcement techniques. Best of all our dogs love to go to class. they always wag there tail and smile when we arrive there we are so proud of them. more

Positive and fun dog training at First Place 3/3/2007

I really have First Place Dog Training to thank for teaching me how to positively train my dogs. I have been attending all levels of obedience classes at First Place Dog Training with three different dogs over the past 7 years. It has always been a positive learning experience as well as a lot of fun for both myself and my dogs. Any issues I have needed help with have always been addressed in a positive manner by the trainers. We look forward to going to "school", not only is it fun for me to learn, but I take great pride in how well mannered my dogs are and how much I can do with them. more

Wonderful facility for training and boarding 2/13/2007

My dogs love it there. They train with positive methods and truly understand how dogs think. We learned the philosophy of training and the classes are fun. What has impressed me the most is that they are never hard on dogs, everything is positive and with great results. I also use them for boarding and my dogs love their vacation as much as I do. I wouldn't think of using any other facility. more

Good Training -- If you approve of the Choke Collar 11/14/2005

Let me start by saying that our over active terrier really did well under the influence of a choke collar. The training techniques that Vince had us use worked wonders.... But, on the flip side, there were many people in the class that did not approve of the choke collar methodology. Be sure that you are comfortable with this type of training style before commiting to this type of program. PROS: Did wonders for our hyper little terrier CONS: Choke collars in use! more
