Editorial review from Citysearch 3/9/2014

Beautiful, historic church, but do not recommend getting married here! We got married here and really wish we would have paid attention to the red flags along the way. The wedding coordinator told us about her plans to retire soon and being burnt out, and her words and actions unfortunately supported this. She was very unorganized, unprofessional, showed up late to the rehearsal making us late to our rehearsal dinner and had a bad excuse, and did not take care of things she was in charge of on our wedding day. Instead the MOB and MOG had to take care of some things instead of enjoying the day. The final straw was her bad attitude (putting it lightly). It's the very last thing you want, and should have to deal with on your special day. We were embarrassed that our guests and bridal party noticed it too. We loved our wedding coordinators at our reception venue and truly valued their professionalism, respect, and overall love for their job and wedding industry. Such a night and day difference. Pay attention to the red flags and remember the coordinator works for you and it's your special day! more

First Congregational Church was founded in 1852. It developed out of the Second Presbyterian Church. A group of abolitionists in Second Church withdrew and formed the Third Presbyterian Church which became the First Congregational Church in 1852. Its first permanent location was on Capitol Square. One of its most prominent pastors was Washington Gladden, one of the founders of the Social Gospel Movement. In the early 1880s he and the Rev Poindexter of Second Baptist sued the city of Columbus to integrate the public schools. The present church was built in 1931. The church is an open and affirming congregation welcoming all without regard to race, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation. more
