They steal your deposit! 7/29/2008

Do not rent here. Two of my friends as well as I had some or all of our deposits taken for no good reason. One of my friends had his entire $600 deposit taken for ""cleaning expenses"" although he says the apartment was just as clean when he left it as when he moved in. Another friend had half his deposit taken for the same reason. They couldn't argue because they already left the state (or even country). They stole almost my entire deposit for ""cleaning charges"" also. They said I didn't wipe down the windows or polish the tiles and remove all the mildew from the tub. But come on, it doesn't take $500 to clean a tiny 600 sq foot apartment! They agree it's not the true cost, but say it is a punishment! However, the law says a landlord can only charge ""reasonable cost of cleaning"". I have already moved out-of-state and although I was thinking about taking them to small claims court, it would have been more expensive for me to fly back, so I couldn't fight them on this.\r \r Another resident told me that they tried to keep his entire deposit because they alleged that he did not submit a move-out notice 6 weeks before leaving. So they tried to keep his deposit AND tried to charge him for an additional month's rent because the apartment could not be rented out immediately. However, this resident had actually submitted a move-out notice which they lost, and my friend luckily had proof (he had a copy of the fax). Montlack confessed they had received the notice and lost it. Therefore, they absolved the charges, but not after weeks of struggle.\r \r Fairhill Towers is pitiful. Maintenance is terrible. They are aweful. The people on the phone, especially one lady (I think her name is Dawn) has no respect for residents at Fairhill Towers. She used to treat me like dirt. Pros: nothing Cons: unethical business practices, dirty building, rodents more

Good Location, but that's about it. 3/9/2008

The apartment has some major, major problems, and only one plus: location. It is close to UH/Case/Cleveland Clinic. The many problems include: the apartment is filled with pests (insects), the management is very rude, the maintenance is poor and slow. It gets quite cold inside in the winter, and management will not turn up the heat. They rarely plow the snow outside. Overall, I don't think they really care about their tenants. I liked the previous management, but not the current one. I am looking foward to moving out. Pros: location, price, safety Cons: not clean, many pests (insects), rude management more
