Ever Green House 6/29/2010

This is absolutely the best vegan cuisine I've ever had...and I've dined in vegan restaurants nationwide. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. I honestly can't understand the remarks by Kpag of September 2009...it could be that individual palettes are affected by the awakening they get when truly wholesome and well-prepared food is presented. I'd eat at Evergreen Cafe 3 times a day if I could. TRY IT...YOU'LL LOVE IT! Pros: Simple and adorned Cons: Not open for breakfast more

Disgustingly Sweet Nightmare 9/2/2009

I cannot believe all the good reviews for this place. Everything here is disgustingly sweet. It's as if sugar exploded in the kitchen, and they're having customers eat the disaster. We ordered the hot and sour soup -- which was NOT hot and was more like sweet syrup than soup. I loaded it with pepper and hot sauce on the table to try and make it edible, but it was irrecoverably disgusting. Then we shared the Black Pepper Soybean and a second dish (I think it was the broccoli with soybean). Again, absolutely awful. I have never had such a bad meal in my life. Maybe the sugar is a SLC thing, but I can't imagine that anyone could like this stuff. In sum, the worst Chinese food I've ever had and my worst vegan meal (yes, it was even worse than the time I was served dry pasta at a banquet event). But if you think that a pound of sugar is what's been missing from Chinese food for all these years, then by all means, give it a whirl. Cons: The Worst Vegan Food EVER more

I love meat and I love this restaurant! 12/3/2008

I am not a vegetarian, my husband is. We go to this restaurant often and I love it. The sweet and sour is so delicious. The soy has a great taste and texture. The employees there are so friendly and helpful. It is a great stop for lunch or dinner. Since it is downtown, we go for dinner and then head to the Bayou. Pros: Service Cons: Parking more

The food is MAGICAL 10/7/2008

I love this restaurant. If I could afford to eat there everyday, I totally would!! The prices are awesome, and the portions are great! The staff is so friendly I love going there! I eat the #7 (potato lovers curry) as often as I can!! Pros: great service, awesome food Cons: not a lot of parking, and closes by 6 more

Wish I could give a rating... 12/3/2007

I absolutely love everything about this delightful restaurant ! The soy Chinese cuisine is scrumptous! I have tried all twenty-something items on the menu. Every dish has unique flavor, I find myself ordering the golden nuggets (they don't tast like cardboard to me), the seaweed roll with black bean sauce, the curry potato soybeans, and the spicy tarot root soybean. I'm their number one fan. Yes, the atmosphere is somewhat dated, but who really cares? I'd rather invest my stomach where friendliness greets not only at the door but to my tastebuds (what truly matters with a restaurant)! Prices are unbelievable; so affordable I dine there at least twice a week! The employees work very hard at pleasing their clients. Less than ten dollars for every healthy meal, who can really complain? What are you waiting for? I hope you will love it just as much as I do ! Pros: Friendly, Extremely Inexpensive, Fabulous Food more

Redefining comfort food on the cheap. 9/22/2004

Ever Green House is wedged into a lackluster section of Salt Lake's sometimes-unsightly State Street, and it's usually my first choice for a delicious, filling dinner at the end of a taxing day. The staff is small, softspoken, courteous, and has a strong track record of getting orders right (even if it takes a while to prepare the food). Tofu bao makes a great appetizer, and the #7, ""curry potato with soybean,"" is the one dish that will always put me in a good mood no matter what happened at the office. The decor is a bit dated, the water is served in plain paper cups, and the music is a bit cheesy, but the food's so good you won't mind it a bit. If you're a chopstick snob like my sister, ask for them when you order; the default utensil is a stainless-steel fork. Pros: delicious, usually quiet, relaxing more

Best Vegan Chinese 6/6/2004

Fabulous service & terrific food. My favorites are tofu bao & sweet & sour ""chicken"". I am not fond of the fake ham in the fried rice however-it tastes OK, but it's a textural thing. I just eat around it or give it to my friends who really like it a lot. Very reasonably priced. Atmosphere can be jazzed up a bit, but otherwise great! Pros: cheap, good food Cons: , parking hard at times more

Not Just For Veggies! 3/12/2003

Though some diners will miss the standards like dim sum and Peking duck, Evergreen House has a wonderful dish for every taste. My faves are the black pepper with soybean, tofu bao, and the hot pot. I do wish they would find some livlier music, though! The stuff they have on loop has quite the sedative effect. Vegans who've maxed out their credit cards at Sage's will salivate at the wonderful prices. Pros: Vegetarian Chinese!!!, Inexpensive, Friendly Service Cons: Sleep-inducing Music more

THE BEST 9/24/2002
