OK, but be careful 7/30/2009

Once a full-time art house, now 50-60% commercial. Numerous muggings and car break-ins in 2009 reflect the economic condition and reduction in police coverage. Be careful when parking in the large pay lot across the street. more

Foreign films 11/14/2005

If you are into foreign or independent film, this is definitely the place to be. They do show 1-2 mainstream movies as well, and those tend to be really good picks. In fact, as far back as I can remember, majority of the movies shown in Esquire received or were nominated for Oscar. The theatre is pretty old, so don't count on cup holders or auditorium seating. However tickets are cheaper and location is great - Clifton's gaslight district. more

A Perfect Nite on the Town (in Clifton) 8/18/2005

This is the perfect, most intimate-feeling theater you’ll find in Cincinnati. With only 6 screens, they are very careful which movies they pick for showing. Typically picking off-beat, non-blockbuster films, it’s easy to catch a film here that you wouldn’t be able to see else (particularly independent or foreign films). It’s located on the little strip of Ludlow that includes a few Indian restaurants, the Proud Roster (restaurant), and Uno’s. There’s also a Graeter’s. It’s the perfect location for a romantic evening in Clifton (as oxymoronic as that may sound to some). more

Great for indie & foreign films 8/17/2005

Looking for a place to view that critically acclaimed, but not mainstream film? Go to the Esquire. If your tastes run for indie or foreign films you will find screenings at the Esquire. The theater is older, but in surprisingly good shape. Enjoy the ambiance, viewing at the Esquire is an experience. Great asset for Cincinnati more

Interesting selections 8/15/2005

Don't know how picks the movies to be shown in this old fashioned Clifton movie theatre but they almost never miss. I am yet to see a really bad movie there. Some, are quite strange, but most either have won prizes or get nominated very shortly after showing. Large % of movies are foreign or independent film, however from the ones shown across the country they manage to pick only the best. Most of the local films I've seen there in the last few years have been nominated for Oscar. more

Esquire is the best place to see a moive in Cincinnati!! 7/8/2005

Esquire Theatre is a terrific place to see movies you probably will not see anywhere else in Cincinnati. Esquire Theatre has 6 screens of varying sizes. The concessions offer a wide array of snacks and drinks. They have traditional popcorn cooked in healthy canola oil. But they also offer pretzels, and Icee's. They also sell DVD's now. The DVD selection is small and only consists of selected movies that Esquire has shown before. On Saturdays Esquire has special screening of Napoleon Dynamite and Rocky Horror. Each shows on alternate Saturday nights. more
