Erica St. Clair at Catena's Hair Studio

Erica is a fabulous stylist. I have followed her to Lush Life after being her client at Catena's for over a year. I love that she knows all the details of my previous cut, and asks what I liked and disliked about it over the elapsed time. She has a wonderful sense of style, and excellent attention to detail. I love that I can schedule my appointments via text, and that she is understanding if I have to reschedule (although I try to avoid this inconvenience, of course). Another great aspect of Erica's cuts is her standing offer of complimentary bang trims in between cuts. I've never taken advantage of them, but it's nice to know that if they started to drive me crazy, the option is available. The salon is beautifully lit with natural light, and her chair is comfy. The conversation is always interesting and light, and the waiting room is relaxing enough to take a nap in. I've been meaning to review her because of her fabulous work, but nervous that you all might make her less available to me! I'm selfish! But I can't deny consistently good work, and I hope that she is successful in her new business venture at Lush Life. I just got back from seeing Erica and I have to say, she did a beautiful job. I went change my light brown hair to a darker winter look and she did just that. She died it and put some subtle highlights just like I wanted. I was a little nervous since I've never had foil highlights before, but my worries were unnecessary. She also re-layered my hair and somehow managed to make it look longer. How I'll never know. She must be some kind of miracle worker. Either way my hair looks shiny and bouncy with windblown look you normally only see in magazines. I chose to see her after reading all of these good reviews and I was not disappointed. Trust her. I consider myself a qualified critic for the industry because I grew up in it. I'm 36 yrs old & my father is one of the #1 barbers and owner / operator of one of the most profitable salon / spas in Lubbock. He's been an owner operator for 45 yrs and has opened & managed other salons & colleges during that time. When I moved from home I knew I was ruined when it came to haircuts. Nothing would ever be as good. Thru the years I found some good ones & bad ones. All left me holding out until I could see my dad. I visited Catena's for the 1st time almost 2 yrs ago. On my 1st visit I examined and evaluated every detail of the studio. I can't help it...its just in my DNA. Every associate was friendly and professional with a sense of pride and ownership in their workplace. I was referred to Erica StClair by a mutual friend in the industry. I decided to give Erica a shot at earning my devotion and took a chance. Normally, I would have had a little anxiety when visiting a new stylist, but I trusted my friend's recommendation and Erica was certainly easy to warm up to. I felt very peaceful and had a semi-VIP experience. I thoroughly was impressed. Sometimes it takes a stylist a few visits to get to know the head and hair of a new client. It can even take a few tries to get the likes and most importantly the 'dislikes"" down. But, Erica dove right in with confidence and I walked out with confidence. The compliments that followed sent me back to Erica many more times. A few months later I moved to a small town in East, TX. (about 3 hrs from Austin) I live on a lake out in the country. I'm about 40 miles from Tyler and about 75 miles from Dallas. I'm pretty sure I can find a stylist worthy in Dallas and possibly Tyler, but my experience tells me that I'll go through many disappointing candidates in the process. The way I see it....I found a jewel named Erica and a place in Austin that feels like home. 16 mnths later, I still drive 3 hours for the best. Pros: Located close to a Starbucks (but if u dont have time to stop, they have comp. coffee) Cons: Give yourself some extra time to get there, if you have an appointment on UT game day. Erica has been cutting my hair for over a year now. At my first appointment, I told her that my hair was her project to do with whatever she wanted...Well, I've never been disappointed with anything she's done. i've gone to Erica for the past year and I've always been happy with my cuts and color. She is very friendly and professional and she is GREAT at what she does. I would recommend her to anyone, espeically if you want color. She's always given me the exact cut that I requested and always has ideas about what will look good on you. I had a horrible experience in the past with hair color and the last salon I visited dyed my hair from light brown to black. I went to Erica and she helped me strip out the old color and correct it to a color that I loved! Erica was extremely patient with me and the best thing about her service is that she will give you a free consultation before you start! I walked out happy with my hair color and my cut. I have been to lots of really nice salons in the past and I can honestly say that I have never had someone better than Erica work on my hair. I will definitely be going back to her for all my hair care needs! I highly suggest that you go to her she is truly the best of the best!! Erica St. Clair has changed our lives for the better! I know, that sounds really drastic, but it's true. Erica has been cutting my hair for the past year and a half, and I have always walked away incredibly happy with my hair as well as my total experience. Not only are her skills with the shears impressive, but she has the ability to understand exactly what I want as a fickle client and to suggest things that are appealing to me. During my last trip in there, my girlfriend (who is recently transplanted from Seattle) started chatting with Erica about how she's wanted to get bangs for the last year but was never comfortable enough to trust anyone to do them for fear of being a botched job of her overpriced stylist. Once Erica walked Sarah through what she suggested, Sarah felt good enough to sit down right then and there and enter a world of swooping bangs. She has never been so happy with a haircut (Erica didn't even charge her but I of course showed her our enthusiastic gratuity!), and has since been back in for a trim. I'm headed back in for my trim (I forgot to mention she is super-flexible with my work schedule and will schedule appointments when everyone else is gone at 6:30) and am happy to keep sending all my friends to this fun and engaging stylist. Spent much of 2007 looking for a new place to get my haircut. Lucky for me I found Catena's and Erica. The place is very cool, easy to get to and everyone makes you feel welcome. Erica is a REALLY good hair stylist - I trust her to do a fantastic job on my hair and she always does. She's personable and listens to what you want and even helps/shows you how to do it yourself. The best color job I have ever had was done by none other than Erica St. Clair. Being a stay at home mom the one thing I look forward to is getting my hair done. It is the great escape for me. Erica is great she makes the whole time enjoyable and relaxing. I get a couple of different color highlights every time, and since I have really thick hair man does it take some time. No sweat for her, she gets it done and still has time to cut and style it beautifully for me. Trust me this takes patients cause were talking at least 30 min of blowdrying. But over all it is always a great experience. I walk away feeling revived, and my hair looks great. That is enough to make a girl smile. more
