service sucks. Not worth the cover 12/2/2009

I went to this place one night and as I was closing my tab I noticed some random Corona on my tab. I asked the bartender about it and he said that my girlfriend ordered it. I knew that she didn't because I was with her the whole night and she also hates Corona's. I asked them to explain what the girl looked like that ordered it. The bartender described some random girl that didn't sound anything like my girlfriend then he said your girlfriend is...some name that I didn't know. I told them that the girl that ordered that drink wasn't my girlfriend and they had made a mistake. They wouldn't accept it and kept trying to convince me that it was my girlfriend, as if I didn't know what my girlfriend of 3 years looks like or could even confuse her name with the random name that the bartender had said. They wouldn't take off the charge. If your going to go here I suggest not opening a tab because the staff don't know how to do there jobs and they won't admit to any mistakes. Cons: small space, no room to dance, service sucks more

Want a dance party and really good drinks 1/11/2008

This place is under new management since the middle of 2007, and things have been changing in Enormous ways. There drink menu is to die for, my favorite is the "God in small pieces" it's a pomagranite margarita and so tasty with salt. Just to name a few more the "Geisha's Whisper, Bad Babysitter, and the Quick Knockdown, I've had them all and always left feeling pretty nice. Get there early if you want to sit but don't worry because there are djs 7 nights a week getting the dance party started. It's the new hot spot if you are looking to lounge around, be romantic, or just not sitting on a bar stool. You can sit on nice comfy couches or kick back and relax on a big pillow. I like this place because the atmosphere is chill and the service is great, I have never been without a drink and thats important when hanging out at the bar. Pros: Good Music, Nice Staff, Personable more

Fun Night out 10/12/2006

One of the best places in Cambridge, Hands Down... The food is excellent, but the real draw is the relaxed environment and amazing DJ's. Everytime my friends and I go here, we leave happy, and buzzed! Definitelly a great place to start and finish your night out. The only drawback is finding yourself without a seat on a busy night, so come early! Pros: Atmosphere, Music, Comfortable Cons: beat the crowd on weekends more

Cool place, food's not bad 9/22/2006

The reason to come is for the cool room and lounge. The food used to be better, but it's not bad and it's reasonably priced. For pure middle eastern dining there are better places, but it's still a fun place to visit now and then. more

Lucky Find 6/11/2006

Ive been searching for a place like this in Cambridge since my recent move from NYC. The Enormous Room or as I call it the Elephant Room is an awesome place to go with a large group. The DJ was extremely accommodating, he responded well to our requests, thanks you rock. The bartenders were also friendly. In Addition, I was rather impressed by their tequila selection and warm decor. I might soon become a regular. more

Mediocre goes downhill 12/14/2004

I've been to E.R. several times. In the past, I was pretty happy with the food, although it was a little pricey and the service varied wildly. On a recent visit I discovered they had changed their menu -- the platters are gone, replaced with $8 per plate tapas. I arrived about 6pm and was one of two tables in the place. The music was so loud the waitress and I couldn't hear each other, but she wouldn't turn it down. I was waiting for a friend. I ordered a drink, and when the drink hadn't arrived 15 minutes later because the waitress was talking on her cell phone, I decided to wait for my friend downstairs. I won't be going back. Cons: , Poor service, High prices more

Cool, chillin' place 10/16/2004

At narrow room framed with brick walls and hardwood floors dotted with Morroccan rags an d sleek glass tables, The Enormous Room provides a very cool atmosphere to chill at. Sofas and comfy chairs line the multilevel room which ends at a narrow bar and hidden back kitchen. Live DJ plays a groovin' dig on certain days. Coolest bar by far in Central Square. Pros: Stylish decour, Live DJ music, Good eats Cons: , Can be very crowded more

Great music, Chill spot... 2/4/2004

I live in Central Sq. and have watched this place blow up from an unknown empty spot to trendy hip spot (by Boston standards). Place does get packed on DJ nights (W-Sat.) so get there before 9:30 PM if you want seating. Crowd is mixed bag-Harvard/MIT kids, hipsters, pretty folks, y. professionals-very Cambridge. Service could be better. Lack of staffing-only 3 waitresses & 1 bartender work on packed nights. Music is the draw for me though. It is the ONLY venue in Boston where I can hear quality music MIXED PROPERLY by a DJ-Hip-hop/electroclash/breaks/downtempo-none of that fade-in, fade-out crap (Sat. w/DJ M.Estrada are suggested). E-room now accepts credit cards and is open till 2 AM on Fri./Sat-CitySearch is outdated. Much better for night owls (me). If you like to sing along to standard Boston bar music-BonJovis "Living on a Prayer" or DefLeopards "Pour Some Sugar..-you wont like it here. Pros: Underground Music, Relaxed ambiance, Parking/T accessible Cons: , Limted Seating, Overpriced food more

Enormous Ego, Enormous disappointment 1/21/2004

I was really looking forward to seeing a funky, hip, eclectic, creative crowd here, as typical in Central Square. But somehow, the euro/mideast trash made it over the bridge and plopped themselves onto the velvet couches. It was such a stare-down contest everywhere that I was physically uncomfortable. And the bartender was equally aloof. The owner may have intended something different in his description (and that idea has geat merit and potential) but you never know who will show up and ruin the vision. I wish this place had more of the vibe (and size!) it described and aspired to be. And to the crowd : (and you know who you are): grow up, get over yourself, and gain some self esteem!! Pros: , location Cons: attitude/crowd, not living up, size more

A very non-Boston experience. 9/25/2003

No overcrowded bar - no one spilling cheap beer on your shoes - and no bump'n'grind floor. Just chillin.. The Platters provided ample food, and very with a delicious selection. Very good for snacking on while enjoying some beverages and conversation. The ever-dimming lights, pillowed platforms and reclining areas made for an overly-welcoming experience. It was very tempting to just lay back and catch up on some sleep! The staff was attentive, friendly and very helpful in food selection. Would have stayed for a very long time if the music did not turn to 80's hiphop at ear spitting volume. Before that DJ kicked it up, the atmosphere was very relaxing and enjoyable. Will definitely go back - but make sure to arrive early to get the cushiest spots. Pros: great atmosphere, food, service Cons: music got too loud more

super 6/3/2003

this is a great loungy NYC/SF style spot. dark and intimate for a couple or a small group. yummy appetizers, strong drinks, tasteful dj and most importantly the diversity of clientele that you rarely find in boston. only draw back is it gets crowded. Pros: ambiance Cons: crowded more

False Advertising 4/2/2003

Upon our arrival we were told there was a $3 dollar cover charge to get in. I asked if there was plenty of room and was told yes. After the bouncer eagerly collected our cash we proceeded to the not-by-any-means-enormous room to discover there was plenty of seating if we chose to do so on each others laps. It was overcrowded, loud, and not at all the hip hangout I had heard about. Other parties came in after us (duped by the promise of plenty of seating Im sure) and stood around in a daze. If we hadnt been lied to about the available room just to collect a tacky $3 cover charge I think we would have returned a different night to give it another shot. Instead I vow to never give their establishment any future business. I hope their $3 lie was worth it. Cons: crowded, loud more

dig this place! 12/19/2002

ok, it's true, seating's nearly impossible to find (do NOT go in a large group unless you go early in the evening and camp out for a couple of hours), but barring that, the vibe here is great. good music, yummy if expensive food. and the BARTENDER (1) was very chill about getting ppl water even if they weren't buying drinks -- i was impressed (2) he makes a mean, mean martini such as i almost never find in a non-martini bar. tip this guy well--he deserves it. Pros: mostly good music, unique, cool setting, good food Cons: scarce seating more

ENORMOUSLY OVERLOOKED 12/11/2002

Great bar!!! A place for whatever you want -- romantic or relaxed! You can go w/ friends or that special someone. One of my favorite bars that offers something different! more

Dark and Hip 12/8/2002

Hip place in a great location. Feels more New York than Boston-- except that people take off their shoes like crazy in this place. Dark with low music and good drinks. Meet a friend. But don't excpect beer on tap. Pros: Chill Vibe, Cool Food, Great Location Cons: Strangely Dark, No Beer on Tap more

First time managing one of these? 11/21/2002

What our dinner group of 6 discovered here was numerous areas that *COULD* seat 6-7 people, nearly all taken up by couples. We were expected to basically stake out a table, and hope that if people started leaving we could snag it before another waiting party did, as there was no list. We took our business elsewhere. The service just plain sucked, in ways that are very easy to fix. They're cultivating a NYC hotspot wannabe feel, but unfortunately they forgot the cardinal rule of real hotspots, which is that money talks. A group of people willing to shell out a few hundred bucks usually takes precedence over two annoying losers with a beer apiece lounging obstinately at a large table, but not here... They're doing nothing to cultivate a loyal clientele that spends money, and when they're no longer the cool new thing, I'll happily watch them go under. Pros: Ambience Cons: Bad Attitudes, No Organization more

  • The Scene
This Central Square lounge should have a sign outside: "You are about to enter the land of hipness." Of course, being so hip, it doesn't have any sign at all. To find it, look above Central Kitchen, the upscale neighborhood restaurant that opened this bar upstairs. There you'll find beautiful people on couches and leather chairs soaking up the subtly Moroccan decor and chilling to trippy, ironic electronica.

    The Draw
This is the lounge Central Square has been dying for, both as an antidote to area rock clubs and as a place to go before or after livelier entertainment. Nothing is too complicated here, from the menu of small bites, to the simple drink list of wines, single malt scotches and sipping tequilas. Of course, creating that vibe is a calculated affair that any refugee from London or New York nightlife would appreciate.
