Em's Artist Cafe

I was invite by my neighbor that spoke highly of the place. My first visit was early evening relaxing and chill atmosphere , not much to say the previous comments kinda said it already. The second I really enjoyed myself it was a sat nite with the artist there and the art was up and artist actually doing pieces on site was great , my buddy that tagged alone said ""this is my kinda crowd"" . We stayed had a few beers watch the artist create my buddy wanted to purchase a piece I encouraged him to do so since his house is so big it could use some modern art , funny when we went back the artist had covered that one piece with another color all over ... they work fast there .. overall great location & staff service is awesome as well unique items on menu help chase away that ordinary blues of eating out. gotta come by on a sat nite for the full effect of how diverse it is more

Em's Artist Cafe is my landing spot when I land in LA. It is conveniently located to bus routes and the freeway... The folks at the cafe are friendly, artistic, music-oriented people who provide an alternate to industrial farming products. They serve fresh organic vegetables and fruits along with boar, buffalo, wagyu steak, alligator and ahi tuna... If you like morning coffee, then come get an individually brewed cup for $1 or Kenyan coffee beans for $2 - You can get fresher coffee only if you make it yourself. The food is delicious and I swear I've lost weight though I've eaten almost everything on the menu. There is a calendar coming out for events that occur nightly or during lunch so I'm excited that I can plan some fun into my week. What can I say? You should come to Em's Artist Cafe... If you're like me then you will keep coming back... more

I noticed another reviewer's headline ""Relaxing..."" and while that may be the case early in the a.m. or late in the p.m., I've also felt it was a fairly electric, noisy scene, especially when the owner's children are hanging out (some are musicians, too). It's in a word: ""eclectic"" and you never know who will show up and when... the patronage is as varied as the very-diverse menu. Like any place open to the public, the mood here changes with the visitors from time to time. My best suggestion: bring a friend and snag one of the heavy block tables for the best experience. The staff and service are top-notch (whereas the prices are artist-friendly). This is a very well-thought-out place. I watched Em and his people build this place slowly with TLC over a 2-year period (it was thoroughly zoned, licensed and and tested by Culver City and LA Country Health Dept. before opening!)... They just had their grand opening July 1-3, 2011, and I've been inside several times for coffee and food (plan to make my 2nd visit today later). A number of surprisingly talented musicians (one form of artist found here a lot--there are also resident sculptors, painters, etc.--I'm among the musicians, lol) hang out (and occasionally work) here. I'm meeting up with a musician pal tonight (typical). Dollar excellent coffee on the west side? U kidding? We are so THERE! They feature a very eclectic partly exotic, full menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, with optional non-factory meat (buffalo, free-range something or other [no junk meat available, ask 'em for details], alligator, etc.). Yum! Everything I've drunk (e.g. the amazing one-dollar small coffee) or eaten here has been EXCELLENT. Really. Try it and see if you vibe with the atmosphere which is varied and mixed ages, you'll see hard rockers, world beaters (I play that), cute young things, and old fogeys (guilty). This joint was built with a glance back at the influential coffee shops of Paris, France, although French cuisine is only a small part of the menu. Try the big choco chip pastries, among other low-priced goodies (not everything is super cheap, but it's all really good). :) Highly recommended. more

I stopped in a few days ago to grab a latte and enjoy the artwork. Its a one of a kind place that is easy to sit back and relax in. I will definitly be back! more

Hi, i was driving by and decided to hop in and try out the eats. The place had been vacant for while so I was excited to see a new restaurant in the area. The people are artist who run the join and the decor is one of a kind. Great place to stop in if your in the area! more
