not very impressed 11/29/2009

I went to the Henderson location and expected a big burrito for the price I paid and it was so small that it was gone in 2 minutes. The rice was brought out in about a 2 ounce dish and it was white rice. One of the biggest problems I had was the horrible chips. I don't know where they get these but they have a taste and texture like a ritz cracker but more airy , I have never encountered a chip like this and I have eaten at a lot of mexican places. I will not go back for this reason alone. The waiters were very nice though and very attentive. Pros: great service Cons: food and price more

Bad food, ok drinks, priced too high 11/13/2009

Having lived in San Antonio, TX and Albuquerque, NM, we've had our share of great Mexican food prepared in a few different ways. El Jefe's is simply not good. The tacos we had were *loaded* with cotija cheese which just overpowered everything, but even when scraped off they were just ok. The enchiladas were like something you'd expect from a Chili's or comparable. The salsas available were nothing special, and the ""Mexican rice"" was the same as the minute rice and frozen veggies we used to eat in college. Prices were too high for the quality of food available Save your money and head to Robeto's Taco Shop for better food. Pros: Drinks were good Cons: Food ranges from bad to ok more

what a stinker. 11/29/2007

Where shall I begin? Let's start with the margarita's. I never thought that the free strip margs would find their way into Henderson and onto my table. It is the first time I have ever returned a margarita and possibly the only time I have ever returned anything with booze in it. On a positive note the chips and salsa are awesome, indicating an exciting meal to come. I WAS BAMBOOZLED!!! Cheese enchiladas were crepes with mozzarella inside smothered with Chef Boyardee tomato sauce (we dubbed this concoction a ""cheese enchiloni"") and served with ranch beans and rice pilaf. In fact all El Jefe entrees are served with ranch beans and rice pilaf. I hate El Jefe!! Next my party and I were presented with shrimp tacos that seemed vaguely asian inspired and a beef taco that i'm pretty sure was filled with dog food. When we mentioned the bizarreness of the flavors to our Mexican waiter, he explained that they cater to ""an American palate."" As an American, I'm insulted. Coincidentally, our car battery died as we were driving home, and while we sat at the gas station waiting for a jump, we had plenty of time to discuss and analyse our meal. I don't know what kind of food El Jefe does serve, but it's certainly not Mexican. It is, however, disgusting. The weirdest meal I've ever eaten. more

Great food for a reasonable price 5/19/2007

I had a wonderful meal at this local Mexican resteraunt. The atmosphere is relaxing, stylish, and not your typical Mexican motife-great blown glass light fixtures and artwork, modern and warm.\r \r The food is excellant. Go beyond the typical nachos and tacos, and experience food which is flavorful, spiced without heat, and tasteful to the eye as well as the palate. The vegetables are fresh, the appetizers plentiful, and the entres worth every cent. And for those chocolate fans-molten chocolate lava cake with rasspberry sauce! Can anyone want for more?\r \r Go early, as the locals in the area do come and all seating can be full on a Saturday night.\r \r Great place for a night out with the girls (or guys!), as well as for family dining. Service is good. Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, family friendly, as well as adult friendly Cons: Parking more
