Insightful and inspiring.! The two words that best describe Michelle’s Golden Box class. Edgemar is easily the best acting school in Los Angeles (LA). She has perfected putting actors in touch with the tools they already have to be successful. I laughed, I cried and I feel I walked away better equipped and ready to tackle my next audition. It is perfectly clear why Michelle travels internationally to teach this class.. This is a class that I would without hesitation recommend any actor at any stage in their career take, if they are looking to further master their craft . Being that The Golden Box serves as a prerequisite for Michelle's scene study class, I am extremely excited to see what more Michelle has to offer me as a young aspiring actor. more

Look no further. i have been to all the top acting schools in los angeles and i feel that this is by far the best acting school headed by a top acting coach michelle danner. there is a reason she is a acting coach to the stars!! just took her golden box intensive and it was amazing!! i first got aquainted with the studio when i was forced by my roommate to check out their free info session. i got to meet with michelle and learn about all the classes plus checked out how beautiful the acting school was. i started with their 3 month conservatory at first but after a month realized this was the place for me so i joined instead their on year conservatory.\r \r michelle danner (and all the other teachers of the studio) are all excellent. \r \r Why is this acting school amazing?\r * Small class sizes = everyone gets to work\r \r * Instructors who tell you exactly what you need to hear to become a better actor (again, no BS or sugar coating! I can't count the number of times I've left class feeling destroyed but have heard exactly what I need to hear in order to become a better actor) \r \r * one stop shop in the sense that you will be able to take a plethora of classes:from acting for film, improvisation, voice and speech, accent reduction, script analysis, scene study, casting director workshops ect... \r \r * be part of a Community of artists filmmakers and actors all sharing the same passion and dedication to excellence!! \r more

The Edgemar is a great place to see live theatre. The main stage is wide and always has beautiful, intricate sets. The productions are top-notch. I've seen A. R. Guerney's ""Sylvia."" Henry Jaglom's ""Just 45 Minutes From Broadway."" and most recently, N. Richard Nash's ""The Rainmaker."" All were stellar - production, acting, directing, etc. And the box office staff is very helpful. AND they have an art gallery which always has great artwork, so while you're waiting in the lobby for the house to open or milling around during intermission, there's something beautiful to look at. They also have their own parking lot which is very convenient. more

The Golden Box is a helpful acting class for any actors at any skill level. Since I am a beginner, I felt the techniques taught by Michelle Danner to be quite useful. Whether or not it is helpful for acting veterans, I have no input about that. Danner goes through various exercises for the whole class to freely express any emotions stirring inside of everybody. I used my imagination the way she told us to and I felt the raw emotions running through me. It was quite a life changing moment for me as I realized that I enjoy acting and it could be a profession. When Danner told everybody to close their eyes and imagine a loved one is gone forever, it hit me because I started to imagine that my good friend is gone forever. I went through notions that the friend who cared for me whenever I felt down is gone forever. The images ran through my head seeing my good friend lying there lifeless and it hit me emotionally. I was a bit shocked with how I reacted to some false image but I guess that is the point of acting. I've learned how to rediscover my emotions in my past memories, which is the main objective in this class called the Golden Box, a tool actors use to deliver emotions on the spot. The method Danner taught me will be an invaluable lesson for me.\r \r The Golden Box consists of two day lectures by Michelle Danner, analyzing different methods of acting and various clips of Hollywood stars. Specifically, Michelle Danner goes into detail about the multiple acting techniques by Meisner, Strasburg, and Adberg and how all three are important for an actor. I was quite intrigued by it and was interested from the first minute class started. Since I am a big film buff and I adore classical actors, it was interesting to hear Michelle talk about the classical actors and what methods they used when they performed. I don't know about what other people think about the class as they could find sitting down for many hours listening to a teacher simply boring. I wasn't. more

Studying with Michelle Danner at The Edgemar Center has been eye-opening for me. I have taken acting classes at other well-known schools across the country and her work goes above and beyond any training I have had.  Her knowledge of acting training today as well as its history is in my opinion, one of the main reasons that she is so effective as a teacher. I love her scene study class - she thinks outside the box and includes much more in her training than the majority of other classes out there. She uses tools from modern psychology that allow you to understand your characters ""wants"" and ""needs"" so you can fully identify with their world-views, which helps bring forth the multi-dimensional and unpredictable performances. I highly recommend going to the informational class held on Wednesday mornings. Meet with Michelle Danner and see if her style resonates with you. It can only improve your acting!\r more

Edgemar is a great place to study acting. Michelle Danner has really helped me to expand my abilities. I came into Michelle’s classes having done some acting classes but her classes were way beyond anything I had done. I really appreciated her ability to be calm and caring in our classes. I never felt stupid or picked on. Since taking her classes, I have been more confident and have been booking more auditions. Thank you Michelle Danner for making me a more confident actor! more

I recently became a student at the Acting Studio at Edgemar Center for the Arts. Coaching with Michelle Danner has been very exciting for me. She delves into the acting process in a way I have not encountered before, which I first discovered in her Golden Box intensive. Her modern approach combined with her vast knowledge of ""traditional"" acting theories bridges the gap between emotional life and text, helping actors develop a very specific process. Her work has given me great new tools that I can call upon in any situation. I have reached levels in my acting that seemed unreachable at other schools and with other teachers. Training at this amazing acting school has really helped my creative process. Having school right next to the beach is pretty great too! Whether you are just starting out or are a seasoned actor, Michelle Danner's scene study class will meet you where you are and push you forward. I'm also really looking forward to taking Brad Garrett's sitcom class when it comes up again! more

I just attended a free info session here at the Edgemar Center and I’m excited about beginning to take some of their classes. I will be enrolling in their Golden Box and Improv classes. First of all, the theater space here is beautiful. I’m hoping to be able to get in a play here soon. Michelle Danner seems like an amazing coach and her understanding of the process for an actor is simply amazing. I also couldn’t help but to be drawn in by all the beautiful art work they have hanging on the walls in the lobby. I think they have events from time to time showcasing the works of new artists. They have two theaters, a large 99 seat theatre, and small 65 seat theater, so they can accommodate varying class and production sizes. Not only are there great opportunities for actors here, but the place is downright beautiful. I can’t wait to come back for my first class. more

I recently took Michelle Danner’s Golden Box, and it was the most eye opening two days I’ve ever experienced as an actor. Michelle walks you through everything you must consider and ask yourself in order to build a rich, colorful character. As someone who has never had a lot of traditional training, I found that Michelle manages to break down her years of professional training and experience into a useful toolbox to help you get to the root of who your character is, and why they do what they do. After taking Michelle’s class, I feel better equipped to dig deep into the life of my character to create a back-story that will allow me to create real people and take my acting to the next level. more

Training at Michelle Danner's Los Angeles Acting School has boosted my confidence in my acting technique 100 percent. The skills and techniques I've developed allow me to walk into an audition and enter the reality of the sides in seconds. My imagination is far more available to me. While I learned similar techniques while training at other Los Angeles acting schools, I've never had an acting coach that enabled me to break out of my shell the way Michelle Danner teaching does. Her ability to spot where you are in your process and give you specific exercises and work based on that, as opposed to giving the same approach for every actor, makes her an amazing teacher. She consistently assigns an exercise to an actor, in the middle of working a scene that instantly reveals a psychological or emotional block that was preventing the actor. Her direction is intuitive, and most of all, she is extremely committed to helping her students cultivate their craft. If you are serious about having a career in performing, you should really consider studying acting with Michelle Danner - she has earned her rep at a top acting coach for a reason.\r more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/24/2012

When I started at Michelle Danner's Los Angeles Acting Studio, I discovered that, regardless of all of my training, I had never fully developed my acting process. My work was shallow and unnatural. I realized approaching a character felt a like running in the dark. Michelle Danner is the best acting coach that I have ever experienced because she gave me clear and spot-on criticism. Michelle has a vast knowledge of techniques and exercises that help develop an actor's craft. She creates a safe space in her scene study class that allows her students to explore their full range of emotions. Studying with Michelle got me to places in my work that I had sensed, but didn't know how to really access. I discovered my own practical process. Her acting classes are for everyone who is serious about becoming an actor. If you want to really grow as an artist and become the kind of actor an audience wants to see, I can't think of a better teacher than Michelle Danner. more

Michelle Danner can turn anyone into an extremely skilled actor. Her knowledge of various acting techniques gives her students many tools to help them create strong and intriguing characters. One of the best things about Michelle Danner's class is that she incorporates all the great acting techniques into her teaching. Personally, I still have my work cut out for me. I haven't even begun to chip the surface of all the exercises that Michelle Danner has to offer, buI know she has put me on the right path. I have become much more confident as an actor. I can approach my work in a methodical way by using various tools to make a great performance. I love Michelle's class. She requires and expects all of her students to work hard --but she really gives a lot, too. Her classes are not for the lazy, but for people who are serious about the art of acting. If you are looking for a great professional place to work on your acting process and tools, whether you are a beginner or have been performing for years, I think that Michelle's scene study class at her top Los Angeles acting school is a great place to do it. more

The Edgemar Center for the Arts has been known for it’s acting studio and it’s more than famous Creative Director Michelle Danner, who is not just coaching some of the biggest names in Hollywood but also a director, who is about to launch her new movie “Hello Herman”.\r \r For those directors and producers out there who thought, Edgemar was for actors only, should have a closer look at the “Golden Box”, a two day class, offered by Michelle Danner herself. The class gives insight in breaking down scenes and scripts, a close look at the language actors speak and most importantly understand. It is commonly known, that a good director attends at least one acting class and the “Golden Box” represents exactly that: a starter course to understand actor’s minds on set and on stage. You will meet talents from different backgrounds, and experiences but you will leave with one bigger understanding for their craft.\r \r You will get an insight into characters, scene breakdowns, and sucking out the dialogues subtext, which translates directly to great cinema and theater. All this wisdom is brought to you, by Michelle Danner in a very charming and understanding manner in order to get the most out of the time. It is a very protected and open space, which for me was important, since this was my first acting class, and it takes a little something to let go of my inner insecurity and just let yourself fall, trusting the director to lead you through the process.\r \r All in all, the “Golden Box” is a great insight into the craft of acting; it gave me the basic understanding of how to work with talents and how to create entertainment that is meant to last.\r more

I have just started classes at the Edgemar Center for the Arts and I am feeling very inspired. There is something to be said about studying in a Frank Gehry designed, architecturally beautiful space, to study under veteran teachers, and surround yourself with creatively curious students. The IMPROV WORKOUT allows you the freedom to play off of your instincts and create hilarious characters and situations out of mid air. Every actor should put themselves in an Improv class of this caliber. I hope to be starting some more classes within the studio very soon. more

I saw the play “it must be him" - a new comedy at Edgemar. It was definitely a memorable experience! As soon as I entered Edgemar, I felt welcomed. It’s a very social, friendly environment. They do tons and tons and things at this center form childrens classes to adult acting classes which I hear are fantastic!! I watched this new show and, I was blown away! The music and dance was magnificent. I am looking forward to seeing Edgemar’s other comedu that has been extended twice now called Sylvia. I was disappointed cause it has taken me 3 months to actually see the show given its been sold out every time I call but this time I reserved way ahead of time!!!!!!!!! more
