Bad food, bad service 9/22/2008

I read the reviews on citysearch and thought this was a new Hollywood restaurant that would be fun to go to on a Saturday night. Well, let's start by saying that this place is big, about two inside rooms and a huge outside patio. Our reservations were at 8, and the place was almost empty. There were maybe four or five other tables there!! Weird... The service was horrible. Every time we would ask our waiter something, he would make a face and say ""OK, hold on one second."" He would come and ask us, is everything ok? and we would ask for something, he would reply ""Oooook, one second,"" as if we were bothering him every time. The food was horribly blend. We ordered mushroom risotto - there were two microscopic pieces of mushroomms in there. It felt like they just boiled rice and added butter to it. It was the blendest risotto I've ever had in my life. The steak was OK, but let's just say they didn't even bring steak knives. After trying to flag down a waiter for 5 minutes, he finally brought me a REGULAR knife. Skip this place! Cons: horrible service, bland food more

Looks Like Things Have Changed 7/25/2008

I work next door and have been coming here for years. I had been coming here alone because I grew tired of hearing my friends and lady complain about...well, you have read the reviews and they're fairly accurate. I'm just not very picky and when I'm alone I seem to get better service, plus the staff recognizes me by now and they know my likes and dislikes. \r \r Things have been changing for the better at my local eatery for the past month or so, which is why I'm bringing my lady back Friday night when they have live music on the patio. They've hired a gentleman to play classical guitar and he'll sing every few songs, sometimes in French then in Italian and then you'll hear something else in Spanish. It's really a beautiful setting for dining on the patio. \r \r I make a point of picking the new managers brain about what he plans on doing next whenever he stops by my table. Last time he told me that if the restaurant were a living thing it would 1. be hungry and 2. lonely! So he plans on coaxing the chef into bulking up on the portions served and then do some grass roots marketing. \r I took some flyers off the bartender and handed them out to every dept. in my building. What can I say, I'm a good guy! More importantly, I really like the changes I see happening over there. \r \r More to come with news on date night Friday.....\r Cons: try street parking more

Good food but very small portions 6/11/2008

I just ate here tonight. It's a Wednesday so it was pretty empty. Not lively at all. We sat outside on the patio but the whole place has a very nice ambiance and decor. I had the lychee martini and pomnegrante martini...both were very good. My friend had the risotto...he liked it a lot. I had the crispy chicken...very, very good. My only complaint was that the portion sizes compared to the prices were VERY small! I could not believe how little chicken came on my plate. Also, I found their dessert menu to be a little lacking. However, we did get a dessert that was some kind of berry cobbler or something. When it arrived, it didn't look how we imagined it to be. It was actually just a berry muffin with a dollop of ice cream on top. It was incredibly small...however, it was VERY good! more

Good, but not amazing 2/11/2008

I too went to the dineLA event last week and was happy with the menu we were given... the service was another issue. When we got there we were promptly seated, however, they placed my party in this awful brown room with only one of the three lanterns working. The ambience was awful and it felt like we were in someone's basement. The front room looked really nice and I think I would have enjoyed my time more I had I been placed there. Our busboy was great b/c our drinks were always being refreshed, however, we saw our waitress maybe every 35-45 minutes only to drop off food, not to see if we needed anything. For the first course I had the warm mushroom salad with manchego cheese. It was light and quite good with a hint of pepper. The second dish was the salmon served with a berry risotto. The salmon was nothing special, however, the risotto was interesting in a good way- very creamy, a little tangy, but delicious. My friend had a steak and said it was seasoned and cooked well. For dessert we had the bread pudding- not a big fan of this dish. It was too egg-y and heavy. There wasn't anything with it to compliment the heaviness and the cream didn't do much. Overall, a decent three course meal, but not enough to leave an impression. Pros: Risotto and salad Cons: Dessert, ambience, and service more

HORRIBLE service 2/5/2008

My boyfriend and I went to Eat for the DineLA event. Our reservation was at 8pm, and they said it would just be a few minutes so we should wait at the bar. They didn't come get us until 8:45. Then, they put us at a table that was obviously temporary for the event. Which means they forgot about us. Someone finally took our order, but after 20 minutes nothing had come out. Our waitress finally came by and was like, oh, did you not get your soup? No, we didn't get our soup. For an event with a prix fixe menu, you would think things would come out quickly. We didn't leave the restaurant until after 10. Worst service I have had in a LONG time. It made me never want to go back. Too bad, the food was really good. Pros: Food was decent Cons: SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE more

I'm still hungry! 2/2/2008

I'm a fan of the Patina Group chain of restaurants, but I gotta say... this place is ridiculous. My friend and I laughed out loud (as did the couple next to us) when our food came. Mini portion is putting it mildly. I ordered the steak and he ordered the salmon. 6 bites and your looking at an empty plate. Sorry, but this one missed the mark. If you're hungry, go somewhere else. more

Perfectly seasoned 1/26/2008

I took my 8 year old daughter to eat. before a showing of Wicked and the food was fantastic. I had read the reviews prior to going, and was prepared for the worst. Our waitress was mindful of our time restraint and was friendly and helpful. The steak tartar was the best I have ever had. Though it could have used one or two more toast points. My daughter and I shared their huge Cesar salad and she loved it. The main courses were simply wonderful. My daughter ordered the side macaroni and cheese with truffle essence and it came out piping hot and creamy. She actually declared it better than mine. I had to agree it was one of the best macaroni and cheeses I have ever had. I had the mushroom risotto, it was perfectly cooked and it was perfect for a cold winter's night in LA. Everything was perfectly seasoned. We would come back here again. Pros: Wait staff very good with children more

Wasn't worth the wait 11/10/2007

I dined at Eat on Sunset on a Friday night. For a Friday in LA the restaurant was dead and it still took our server 10 minutes to greet our table and get our drink order. Their speciality cocktails are awful you're better off ordering a vodka soda and trust me you will need to drink a lot because the food is so salty. Halfway through our meal our server let us know that she was going to take a break and someone else was going to take over. The service was inattentive and it took us flagging a busser down after 30 minutes of waiting for our server to bring back our credit cards so we could sign and get the hell out of there. To top the evening off we could hear our server talking to the table next to us about how high maintenance her other table was because it was the cast from Heroes and they thought the world revolved around them...so inappropriate. Bottom line the price does not match the awful product and service. Pros: Location Cons: Service & Food more

So Salty! 9/12/2007

The ambiance was great and the people I came with were great. I was not impressed by the food at all. My steak was so salty I had to drink 3 glasses of water with my meal just to choke it down. Luckily the price was pretty low. more

very disappointing... 8/25/2007

went tonight as a 1st timer... was def. excited because it's a Patina group restaurant. martinis were good. appps SUCKED. i got the steak, it arrived cold... i sent it back and it arrived cold AGAIN! my wife got mahi mahi tacos... she got a plate witha piece of fish, 2 corn tortillas falling apart, and some sauces... the mahi was seared... impossible to cut w. a knife. our wine took 30min to arrive. wine was delicious at least... reluctantly had to complain to the waiter. & they took the entrees off the bill which was nice. our waiter was SO un attentive & un informative despite being a nice guy. we would never go back for dinner, but maybe for drinks. we agreed that Joachim would be sad if he knew he represented a restaurant like this... so we dont blame him. prices were not very high which maybe is why they put no effort into their food. more
