Living in East Cleveland has to be the equivalent of living in HELL!!! The lower part of the City is an embarrassment. Most of the residents are inconsiderate of others and their children are disrespectful. Everyone including adults walk in the street and the police do nothing about it. I don't understand what's wrong with the sidewalk. Many times at night I have almost hit a pedestrian. When is the City going to take control of the many problems it has instead of focusing on giving those tickets out that are a scam. I have been in East Cleveland for 20 yrs.I am letting my house go so that I can move to a community that is quieter. If you have noticed since the cameras have been placed at every light no one rides down Euclid anymore. The strip mall areas have no business The only people that you will have left are none tax payers and renter's. Once I leave I will try never to come through East Cleveland again. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/19/2013

Recently, residents of the City of East Cleveland have expressed their outrage at City Council's decision to approve a 25% reduction in the police department. The reduction in funding resulted in the Mayor's execution of layoffs of police officers. In response to the outcry from residents, City Council explained that the reduction in funding was necessary because the city is in fiscal emergency and can't pay it's bills. However, a review of the approved temporary appropriations spread over the year shows that Council budget actually shows a $1 million+ surplus. \r \r In addition, Council further contradicts its reasoning by increasing its own budget twice. Within the past seven days, the Council President Joy Jordan sponsored legislation to increase appropriations $90,000 to increase legal fees to an attorney to continue litigation against the Mayor and to extend an agreement with a videographer who has been inconsistent with broadcasting Council meetings, which have been of poor quality.\r \r Council has also seen fit to reduce funding by 20% for the Helen S. Brown Center and the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center. In a city whose youth and senior population are the most vulnerable, City Council has seen fit to approve a budget that places their needs in low priority.\r \r Despite the fact that revenue from fees and fines generated by law enforcement will be reduced; the Council did not reduce the Court budget. Once a financial drain on the city's general fund, the Court had become sufficient due to increased revenue from fines and improved operational efficiencies.\r \r East Clevelanders deserve open, transparent governance that is accountable to the citizens. Continued progress is dependent on an improvement in governance. I urge residents to get informed, ask questions demand that our priorities be placed above petty differences and self interests.\r \r more

I sit here my body sore, I try to figure out why you did this to me? I wear my hair like Art McCoy! Is that the reason? I have a OBAMA sticker on my vehicle! Is that the reason? Maybe your daugther is dating a black man, maybe your wife is having an affair with a black man,or your mother did? Is that the reason? East Cleveland has a new black Mayor! is that the reason? Then it came crystal clear to me, that your just a COWARD in uniform. You wear a badge of dishonor, you waste taxpayers money, riding around wasting gas. Your about as dumb as a box of rocks. You are a ""BLACKMAN PREDATOR"", a COWARD indeed! Bear in mind, a COWARD dies a thousand deaths, but a SOLDIER only dies once. I am a SOLDIER! As for the Mayor of East Cleveland, along with the fine police officers, white, black, men and women, I do feel sorry for you all. Your job is dangerous and stressful. I see you all, as crimefighters, that job is tougher, with a COWARD riding next to you, or having a COWARD for back-up. The Mayor and you police officers dont deserve this COWARD in your ranks. The city of East Cleveland can do without a COWARD POLICE OFFICER, city has enough problems to deal with. I shall respect you all and I support your efforts. As for the abusive police officer, hiding behind your badge and uniform, a COWARD sticks out like a sore thumb, you shall and will expose yourself to everyone real soon. I shall have my day in court with you, that's a promise. -Mr. ARJ of Warren- more

I went to city hall and the place was filthy and each person I encountered was unprofessional, ignorant and I got the impression that the whole department was lazy. I mean this personnel person saw me waiting and she just kept running her mouth about things that were not work related. Some people who have been on the job a while seem to do the dumbest things, they feel too secure in their jobs and they are way too relaxed in their work performance. I will move as soon as my lease is up. East Cleveland City is like the rest of East Cleveland ((( It's a dump ))) The mayor should be fired Pros: They pretend to be professional Cons: City employees seem unprofessional and ignorant more

If I were Mayor of East Cleveland 9/24/2007

If I were Mayor of E.C, I would demand that all businesses on Euclid Avenue keep the property free of litter and no loittering in front of the stores. I would place foot patrol officers at the main intersections because they are all hot spots (Lee/Taylor/Noble Roads). As soon as foreclosed properties are repurchased-send a bill for upkeep of property(water).\r I would form a voluntary citizens beautification team. So many residents have complaints but are they willing to work. Our funds are limited but it doesn't mean our city must look so bad.\r Make time to visit all the elementary schools in east cleveland - focusing on what it means to help keep their city clean - place litter in its place; regular attendance; do not buy into the snitch mentality; alternatives to gangs.\r Housing court would be a top priority on my list; make people responsible for their property they will not be so quick to tear it up and will prevent others from destroying. more
