A GREAT PLACE TO SHOOT 8/14/2009

Been shooting here for several months. If you were to come during the week when it's not very crowded, the mood and the demeanor of the staff is much different than on weekends when all sorts of ""sheeple"" show up. Even though the video and common sense tells you NOT to go to the bench during a cease fire, there have been several times when I've turned around after putting up a target and seen several ""patrons"" standing at their benches. A pretty scary sight to see. I applaud the personnel for their diligent efforts to keep the range SAFE.\r ACT LIKE A HORSES A$$ AND EXPECT TO FEEL THE WHIP, IT 'S A GUN RANGE FOR CRYIN OUT LOUD, NOT A SOCIAL CLUB.\r I LOVE THE RANGE AND LOVE THE STAFF AND WILL CONTINUE TO SHOOT HERE FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.\r HAVING THE EMPLOYEES ACT THE WAY THEY DO WILL HELP KEEP THE RIFF-RAFF OUT. OWNING AND SHOOTING A FIREARM IS NOT JUST A ""RIGHT"", IT'S A RESPONSIBILITY TO ACT SAFE AND SANE AND TO BE KNOWLEDGABLE. \r \r MY 2 cents\r \r Surewould Pros: GREAT VALUE FOR $10, PROFESSIONAL STAFF more

VERY ALERT AND SAFE RANGE PERSONEL 3/5/2009

THEY HAVE VERY SIMPLE RULES THAT ARE VERY....EASY.....TO FOLLOW. iF YOU FIND YOURSELF MAKING A MISTAKE THEY ARE FORGIVING, OTHERWISE....YOU ARE HANDLEING DEADLY WEAPONS, ACT LIKE AN ADULT. BE EXTRA CAREFUL AND REMEMBER SOME OF US BRING OUR KIDS OUT THERE AND IF YOUR NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES.........IT'S A GOOD THING THEY TALKED TO YOU FIRST. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SPORT, ACT LIKE A ADULT, FOLLOW THE RULES AND SET AN EXAMPLES HEN RETHINK THE NEGITIVE THOUGHT YOU SPENT TIME TO WRITE ABOUT AND GROW UP PLEASE. THE STAFF THAT WORK THERE ARE DOING THIER BEST TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE. NOW, WHO WOULD WANT TO GO HOME KNOWING SOMEONE WAS INJURED DUE TO OTHER PEOPLE BEING UNSAFE....... THINK ABOUT THAT AND LATER............... SAY YOUR SORRY. iTS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, RIGHT?\r COME ON........\r THANKS FOR A GREAT, SAFE PLACE WERE MY LITTLE GIRL AN I CAN FEEL SAFE!\r KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND GET SOME TISSUE FOR THE WINERS Pros: LARGE AREA, SAFE FOR ALL Cons: NO DISCOUNTS FOR ONE TIME ONLY OUT OF TOWNERS more

Good range, good staff 3/1/2009

I read many reviews before going there for the first time today, so I felt prepared for the worst. If you're new, the first thing you have to do is watch as safety video. It tells you 12 times NOT TO GO TO YOUR BENCH DURING CEASE FIRE! 10 times of those are direct succession. The staff I dealt with were no-nonsense kinda guys. They are direct, but helpful. If you are used to having your behind wiped for you by other people, this might not be the right place for you. I was helped with all of my questions in a courteous fashion. If you can follow basic instructions you'll be left alone. If on the other hand the concept of not going to your bench during cease fire for ANY reason is too complex, you will be yelled at! I like knowing that the staff tries to prevent people getting shot. I feel safe there, and you cannot expect them to say, ""Ahem, excuse me sir...? Please try to refrain from messing with you gun while other people are down range, If it isn't any trouble."" I WANT them to yell at the idiot who's essentially trying to shoot me. Pros: dirt cheap compared to other ranges in the area, safety minded staff, helpful staff, close to Austin, outdoors Cons: Bad reputation, no FMJ, rifle range only up to 300 yd, you'll get yelled at if you can't follow a few simple rules more

I can't believe this place is still in business 1/10/2009

The rude employees here hate to be bothered with customers. They act like they you are nothing more than an incoinvience and barely look up from their magazine reading to take your cash. There are two men that I have seen here, one older grey-haird man and one younger dark harid man who wears glasses. The younger of the two claims to be the range officer. This range officer needs to be fired before I will ever return to this place. He is rude and sarcastic to a point that he is trying to p1ss you off or push your buttons. It is no wonder this man carries an open carry pistol on his hip as without it, I'm sure many previous customers would have broken his jaw or worse. \r \r If you like that chain of restaurants called ""D1ck's"" where the staff berate and curse at you, and you want to experience this at a gun range, then by all means visit this Naz1 SS training facility up in Leander called Eagale Peak. And make sure you leave all your fmj ammo at home. Pros: They speak English Cons: rude, sarcastic, unfriendly, hostile, angry, impolite, impudent, inconsiderate, insolent, insulting, more

Unfriendly Staff, Scare Tactics, this is not a friendly environment. 12/22/2008

So I though I would take my Nephew (15) to Eagle Peak Shooting range since he lives nearby. As a new member I was asked to watch a video. After watching a quarter of it, it was made clear no FMJ or Ball ammo would be allowed. I knew I would not be shooting today. I tried to watch the whole thing so as not to interrupt the other newcomers, but I ended up leaving in the middle of the film. On my way out they asked if I had finished the video, I said no, you don't allow FMJ on range and thats all I have got. They reminded me I could always buy some of their ammo.... Thinking to myself I am not paying a $1.00 a round when I have plenty in the trunk, I said no thanks I have plenty of ammo already I need to shoot. I then got a lecture, ""you know it is illegal to use FMJ unless you have 1000 acres or more to yourself"" yada, yada, yada; I said ""really that is good to know, looks like I will have to keep shooting at the ranch."" He then questioned me by sarcastically asking ""you have a thousand acres to shoot on?"" I said yes, my girlfiends fathers ranch and walked out. Seemed pretty unfriendly to me. I can't find any information stating this. I understand that some ranges do not allow FMJ and that is why I decided to leave and not sneak it in.... \r \r -Unfriendly staff\r -Tried to scare me into buying ammunitin at sky high prices.\r \r I will never visit this range again.\r more

There are better ranges around here. 12/19/2008

The customer service is beyond bad, but that is not why I am writing a bad review. Anyone who would give this range a higher rating than one star must have never been to any other ranges in central Texas. Plain and simple this range is sub-par, although their website makes it look nice. If you only want to go to a range to sight in your deer rifle and that's it, then go there and have them grumble about ""having to take your money"". The owners act angry that you are paying their salary. If you like that, or think it's ""funny"", go to Eagle Peak. If you really want to do some shooting, go someplace else like Hill Country Rifle Range (just call first). I really miss the range off 290 in Manor; I wish Eagle peak would have closed instead. Pros: none. Cons: see below more

Well run - good people 11/1/2008

I showed up here and flat-out told the guys I hadn't fired a pistol in 20yrs. I know my way around a shotgun and rifle - grew up hunting, but never had a reason to fire a pistol. The guys here were great - helped me every step of the way, and I appreciate it. Not sure who is getting any attitude - it is a gun range - don't be a dumb-s#$% after all... but I thought they run this place pretty much flawlessly. Been back a few times, and the same experience - these guys know their stuff, they are professional - SAFE - and very friendly. My guess is if you show up and you are an idiot, you won't get this treatment - but if you show up and you are man enough to admit you know your own experience, and you listen - then you won't have a problem. My old rifle range was the same way. Well done and I'd highly recommend it to novices like me. Pros: Pistol range, rentals, staff Cons: Shotgun range is pretty basic - Capitol Clays much better for this more

Waste of time. 9/22/2008

Any outdoor range in Texas that DOESN'T allow you to shoot FMJ is lame in my book. Not to mention the fact that the staff is a bunch of washed up a$$holes who treat their customers like sh1t. Pros: its outdoors Cons: no FMJ ammo, staff are unprofessional and rude. more

Worst customer service EVER. Get ready for boot camp, and be yelled at. Unbelievable! 9/21/2008

I understand the need for a range ""officer"". I don't want some idiot or some kid muzzle sweeping me with a loaded weapon.\r But a couple of these guys were some of the biggest a$$ holes I have ever met. I took a friend for his first time of shooting. He admitted he would be very nervous as we were heading out there. We came in to the counter and the a$$hole that looks like gepetto looked at us like we had just interrupted him at 3 am.\r As I pulled out my member card,I explained to the twit, that my friend was here for his first time. He rolled his eyes and then went into the most half assed orientation I have ever seen. He sputtered the words out at 90 miles a minute with absolutely no care, whether the person on the receiving end was getting what he was saying. This was the second time I had heard this, and did not get everything he was saying, as he was going so fast and mumbling. So then, we go out to the range and encounter a fat dumb ""range master"" (we'll just call him ""lumpy"") that thought he was the warden of cell block D. He immediately jumped on us,and started asking what we were shooting, and started rummaging through my bag. We gave him a couple of boxes of FMJ (God help you if you accidentally bring some) and he made us take it to the car ( which was fine). He then continued to intimidate the rest of the arriving customers, and shake them down. I overheard one of his co workers joke about how many customers he had run off that day. He just laughed and agreed as he seemed to take great pride in that. Then the idiot, spent a good majority of his time breathing down my neck, while I was trying to instruct my new nervous friend. Finally the idiot took a break and the a$$ hole ""gepetto"" that gave us the wonderful orientation came out. There was a cease fire called, and everyone was waiting to go down range with their targets,he began YELLING at my friend because he did not have his targets in hand. What a rude bunch of morons. Owner needs to clean house fast. Cons: Worst customer service I have EVER had. No Joke. more

Don't be a crybaby, its a SHOOTING RANGE 9/13/2008

Shut your festering gobs, you twits! Boo hoo if you didn't get your Military discount, an employee tried to check you out, or the range officer was gruff. This place is a shooting range, and inattentive or ignorant behavior is dangerous. It is the place to learn to use a gun safely and to demonstrate that knowledge unwaveringly. It is not a place to kibitz with your buddies, play grab-ass with your girlfriend, or let your kids wander around unsupervised. \r \r I am not your typical Texas gun owner or shooting range attendee, as some would call me a North-Eastern Liberal. But I believe in exercising my 2nd amendment rights, and in doing so knowledgeably. So I have been a member there for fifteen years. The range officers are tough but fair. The ""old coot"" at the register doesn't give you a hard time if you don't give him one first. The facilities are home-spun but more than sufficient and I keep coming back, and bringing my kids too. So where else in Austin are you gonna find a place that lets you shoot as long and as as many courses as you want for a single price? Pros: Daily admission, not per hour/weapon. Pistol, rifle, and trap & skeet ranges. Cons: Its outside, but covered. Bring your own water. more

Safe and Fun, Range Officers are Tough but FAIR 9/1/2008

Great Gun Range.\r Saftey is Key, if you act a fool the Range Officer will let you know (and how) but he does it out of love. He doesnt want you to shoot him, yourself, or anyone else. I see alot of morons trying to handle their guns during a ceasefire (while people are downrange) The officer comes over there and lets them know quick to Stop being a fool.\r If you bring a sense of humor you'll see they are gruff but funny guys. \r Great place to go, plenty of friendly fellow shooters, Cheaper than Reds.\r \r If you are a first time shooter, let them know, they WILL HELP YOU OUT.\r \r Pros: Cheap, Fun, Lots of help, Nice Members Cons: Cease Fire rules need to be posted better. more

Eagle Peak Shooting Range 8/25/2008

Great place to shoot. Staff is friendly and helpful and they keep the place neat and in good repair. Being an outdoor range helps with smoke and noise. Since I only shoot pistols, I like having a berm separating rifles and pistols so that cease fires for pistols can be much quicker, you don't have to wait for some old codger to limp 200 yards. Pros: Outdoor range, great atmosphere Cons: Long drive from Austin more

Horrible, unpleasant time 8/15/2008

UNPLEASANT, UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF. Percect example to help the anti-gun lobby further their cause. \r They take your money and then treat you like your in basic training. Basic training actually treats you better. Cons: unsafe and confusing rules more

Range nazis... 8/9/2008

I have only been to this particular range 4 times now, the first time being on Labor Day. There was only 1 employee, the man tending the cashier, whom was very polite with a great sense of humor. It was a great experience, with only 3 others attending the range that day and little to no supervision or interference from employees. Every time since has been very frustrating, being that the elder employees seem to be quite grouchy. I have been scolded and talked down to numerous times by a large gentleman tending the rifle range who appears to have little experience with people and/or firearms. Being a member, paying customer, and military veteran, I strongly advise you to avoid this particular range. I have been to numerous shooting ranges from Texas to Hawaii, and this is by far the worst service I have ever received. I will never return to their range after the experience I endured today. I hope this review assists you in making a conscientious decision about the range you choose to attend. Pros: Members Cons: Employees more

Source of all evil customer service 7/4/2008

Think of the person who provided you with the worst customer service you ever received in your entire life. That person probably could learn one or two things from the angry ugly old man who you have to interact with if you want to partronize Eagle Peak shooting range.\r \r The shooting range itself is nothing special. I have been to better shooting ranges in the People's Communist republic of California, Caalliiffoorrnniiaa.\r \r If I could give this place negative ten million stars, I would. The _only_ thing that recommends this place is that it does not cost a lot of dollars, but it will cost you your good humor, sense of well being and your faith in man kind. That is a high price to pay for shooting your firearm in the state of Texas. Pros: ? Cons: if customer-service actually entered this place, the place would explode due to its critical mass of anti-customer-service more

Grumpy old man behind the counter is a Fifth Degree Black Belt sociopath 7/4/2008

I understand being strict at the firing line during cease fire, but why does the grumpy old man behind the \r counter have to yell at everyone for anything and everything when checking in and when checking out?\r \r Have you heard of the soup merchant in Seinfeld? I can't use the word which succintly describes angry\r man with a funny moustach who hates the chosen people. The man behind the counter when you check \r in is a shooting range angry man with a funny moustach. He not only hates the chosen people, he hates \r you too. He must have a miserable life and must have been raised on spoilt milk with chunks in it.\r \r If there were another outdoor range in Austin, nobody would go to this place.\r \r If you go, keep your answers short, speak only when spoken to, get in, shoot and get out. The\r man behind the counter will yell random insulting things to you, but he does that to everybody. \r \r Again, the man behind the counter was toilet trained while staring down at the business end of a 44 \r magnum. In his mind, hostility feels like mother's milk. His mother made him suckle battery acid just\r because she could. Pros: Cheap. Only outdoor shooting range in Austin. Cons: Customer service black hole. Joy and happiness may go in, but none come back out. more

Best Rifle Range Ever 3/8/2008

This is the best rifle range by far but do bring a since of humor. The men who run it have a keen since of humor and it comes across as gruff but if you don't get their humor then you miss half the fun of this rifle range. The gentleman who is in the office is very friendly and never fails to make us laugh and get the day started off right. The marshall on the range even took the time to teach my daughter how to shoot. He enforces all the rules and makes you abide by them but with that many firearms I wouldn't want it any other way. Both men have a tendency to talk loud and rather gruff, but if you listen to all the firearms being fired all day long, 365 days a year, you must remember that they have to yell to talk over the bangs. Take the rules very seriously but enjoy the men, they can really make you laugh so be sure to bring all your firearms and your since of humor and you will have a great time! Pros: Outdoors is great for shooting Cons: Rainy days can be a downer more

Best range in Central Tx. Something about shooting outdoors feels better than indoors. 11/6/2007

The ranges includes pistol, rifle and shotgun (trap). All day for $10 you cannot beat it. Rifle goes from 50 to 300 yards. They have a golf cart for 100 + yards. The old guy is cranky, but that is what you want at a gun range. They scold you for the slightest infraction like touching ammo during a cease fire, even when your are behind the yellow line. But that is what you want. When every customer there has lethal force they need to be strict. When they read the rules to new members ($10 one time fee) that is their opportunity to impress upon you that they are in charge. Even the cranky guy is helpful though, he will even offer you a wagon to put your gear on when he sees your arms full. Have a safe, fun time. Be prepared to get scolded the first few times out there, but don't take it personally. Smile, say, "" yes sir"" and have a great time. Pros: Outdoors - no claustrophobia (sorry Red's), range goes futher than 100 yards (sorry again Red's) Cons: Outdoors - inclimate weather can be a downer. more

horrible, unfriendly, condescending staff 11/6/2007

I recently had the misfortune of going to this compound and from the moment I walked in the old relic behind the counter was talking down to people just for asking simple questions. I was amazed-they want you to pay in cash as this is one of the few places of business that is still in the 18th century-he would tell customers they had to go to town to get cash at an atm, I was applalled. He then proceeded to read(he could not even pronounce words which was sad for a man his age) a list of rules very angrily. If you have a desire to relax and go to a range by all means avoid this one. It is a miracle no one has shot the man for the way he speaks to customers. Pros: location Cons: staff more

Great outdoor target shooting range with outstanding customer service! 10/15/2007

Eagle Peak is a short drive up 183 with everything a basic to advanced level gun owner could ask for. The staff is very friendly and highly professional. For a $10 life membership and $10/day, you can shoot until the sun comes down, be it an AR, pistol or shotgun. Everyone is there for the same reason: to take the weapon of their choice and enjoy putting lead on target. I'd recommend this place to anyone as I had an employee of Red's recommend it to me. Pick Eagle Peak; It'll be the best $20 you've ever spent. Academy and Walmart are located nearby pick up ammo for the trip. Pros: Location, Price, Staff, Outdoor, Hours, Variety of ranges. more
