Getcha pull at the best dive bar in town ! 11/5/2008

With dozens of Bay Ridge bars just steps from me, I log more hours commuting to and from Duff's than I do to work (true story)... It's like Drunkin' Donuts: It's worth the trip. Where else can you get top shelf drinks that aren't watered down, without taking out a mortgage? - Nowhere but Duff's Brooklyn! Where else can you find a staff to make you laugh, yet make you sweat ? (Owner excluded) -No place other than Duff's! It sports an ever changing butt-kicking jukebox selection, including the dash of fun for the occasional mood change. The outdoor deck when it's too loud or you need to BBQ something to keep your vodka company. This is the place to go in NYC - whether you're an aficionado of the beverage arts and/or a hard rock/metal fan. There's even an outhouse! I mean, if an outhouse doesn't say ""Dive Bar To Party At"", I don't know what does ~ Pros: Fun, casual, drama-free dive for drinking professionals (and those in training), outdoor smoking deck Cons: Though you can smoke outside, wrecking hipsters is still frowned upon on the deck more

Effin GORGEOUS bartenders that literally spew fire - Rockin Metal on the Jukebox - This place is a guaranteed good time! 11/5/2008

Duffs always has something fun to look forward to, whether it's watching Warriors on a small tv in the corner while rockin out to the jukebox, spinning the wheel to find out if you won a free beer or a free hand job (for the bouncer) or even sitting on the patio for an impromptu BBQ & checkin out the bikes and hearses. There's always something random to find in this hot spot. Pros: You can never predict what kind of a night you'll have - but you'll always wind up amongst friends Cons: Sometimes I wish there was more room so everyone isn't on top of each other. more

I'm hooked!! 11/3/2008

My new favorite bar!! Sure its gross and it is def a divebar but where else do you get cheap beer, cheap whiskey and hot bartenders??!!!! Not only that ,they are friendly and attentive! I was wasted 30 minutes after I met tracey (?) last thursday. I stayed a while and had a damn good time. I'm definitely going back and I'm bringing metalheads with me! Pros: cool bartenders GREAT music!! Cons: small more

Inexpensive, Small, Quiet, Boring Dive Bar!! 11/24/2007

I stopped in this place last weekend since it had some good reviews posted on here. Well, I guess I stopped by on an off night, because there was two other people in the place besides me (not an exageration). I cannot comment on the jukebox because they had it turned off and just had K Rock playing from the radio (lame). Drink prices were dirt cheap ($1 PBR cans, and this was AFTER happy hour was over). They also had some wierd, torture/porn video from the 1960's playing on the television screen. The bartender seemed very friendly and so did the the two other patrons there. They conversed with me and made me feel welcomed, which was a plus. This bar is extremely small and there's actually more room on the front patio of the bar than inside the bar itself, which is actually good news for smokers because you're allowed to take your drink outside with you while having a smoke. This place is definitely a place I would check out again and hope for a more energetic crowd. The bartender did tell me that on certain, random nights people do get up and dance on the small bar (more like a counter top) and it does draw a large crowd at times. I just didn't see that personally when I was there probably because it's located in a very remote area with nothing else around besides abandoned factories, however the area still seemed fairly safe. One block away (closer to Bedford Ave.) stands another dive called The Levee which seemed a lot more popular. So, it can definitely serve as a back-up if you're not feeling Duff's. Pros: Cheap Beers, Friendly Bartender, outdoor patio, Friendly Patrons make you feel welcomed Cons: Not close to subway station, hardly anyone was there, located in a remote area more

2 years of Righteousness 9/25/2007

I've been stopping by Duff's for 2 years now, sometimes 4 times a week, sometimes once a month. I can't say nothing's changed from the beginning. In fact, it's only gotten better! Hotter bartenders (love ya LA and Tracy), JD has grown 2 feet (ok, maybe not), and more people that like to rock have discovered Duffs. \r One thing about this place that I tell anyone who will listen is that out of the probably 70 times I've been there never once have I seen a fight or had a problem with any patrons banging their heads to the hardest of tunes (and Johnny Cash and The Killers to mix it up a bit). I've shown up wearing anything from a tuxedo to Pantera t-shirts... it doesn't matter as long as you like to rock. The horrorshow gear covering every patch of space is must view for any fans of that film genre.\r And Thank the Lord for the outdoor deck since even a Dr likes a smooth Marlboro with his ice-cold Pabst.\r Go now and tell them the Doc sent ya. Pros: Jukebox, Dive bar prices, hot ladies, cool dudes Cons: I'm gonna need a liver transplant someday more

Okay, Okay, so I work here 9/24/2007

Yes, y'all this is Tracy, part of the LaurieAnne/Tracy alcohol demolition crew. Judge me all you want for posting a review for my OWN place of employment, but having pride in what I do just goes to show how much Duffs rules! I've been bartending FOREVER, in very popular, busy establishments that I adore and am grateful to have been a part of. I adore Duffs. It's real. Jimmy Duff is grassroots. He's beeen part of the bar business for many years and instead of becoming a bar with no real definition to satifsyt the masses, he's held true to his vision. We may not be for everyone, but honestly, we ARE. We are not pretentious, we accept everyone, and we are all out to show everyone a good time. Come in and you are guaranteed a great conversation, a cold beer, a fab jameson shot (um, schhhhhyeah), and music that appeals to the most hardcore metalhead as well as a metal novice. JD, LA, Colin and myself will make it worth your while. Our welcome mat extends to all. Give us a try, trust me, you'll be hooked. Pros: JD, LA, Tracy and Colin Cons: nada more

NYC's Metal Capital resides on the Brooklyn waterfront 9/12/2007

Duff's Brooklyn is the reincarnation of the old Bellevue on 9th Av. in Manhattan. Once again owner Jimmy Duff was ahead of the curve and brought a great bar to a rough looking neighborhood. If you're into Metal, especially 80's Metal, this is the greatest place in the world. The Juke has Priest, Maiden, Accept, and mainstream Metal selections from Ozzy and Skid Row. \r \r You also never know when somebody from a great band like Maiden or Carnivore will just drop by!\r \r The fact that it has Priest & Maiden on the Juke is worth the price of admission for any metalhead!! Service is always friendly. Jimmy hires great looking bartenders (Laurianne and Tracy) who look great & have zero attitude.\r \r Drinks are dirt cheap if you want PBR and still pretty inexpensive if you drink imports (Beck's $4.00).\r \r Rob Halford once said, ""put on that jacket before you get too old let's rock & roll"" \r \r If you like Metal get down here NOW! Pros: Drinks, service, bartender, owner, beer selection, ambiance, decor, location, juke box Cons: bathroom line when it's crowded more

Best bar period.\r Great jukebox, ice cold Beck's!, excellent atmosphere, outside deck, an awesome owner ...J fukin D & the best bartender on the planet.......LA!!!!!!\r There is no better place to hang if your a Metal Head. Pros: Everything Cons: Sometimes it gets a bit overcrowded...i'm getting old, large crowds $uck, LoL! more

not a bar, a true alchaol abuse center 6/2/2007

Be it a typical saturday night or christmas day at 2 am, Duffs will be open and ready to fill you with booze. LA and Tracy make an amazing barstaff, and Jimmy Duff is a legend in metal. Hail to Jimmy, and to the girls. Pros: Everything Cons: um more

Jimmy Duff is a wild man 3/31/2007

The bar is a reflection of a unique mind and personality. \r \r I think in his last life Jimmy was Gomez Adams. \r \r He travels in a hearse; there are Goth type objects, 60's pinups, and Dancing Dominic all over his place. (Dancing Dominic is the Mascot-Icon of the bar and made the trip /in memory only/ from 9th Ave. \r \r Let me Explain the Jukebox.\r \r I can't.\r \r It has Indy, Peggy Lee, Metal, Rock, Johnny Cash, Country-Punk, Neil Diamond, Ramones, and Sinatra. But I don't think Elvis. I have to check on that.\r \r There are 2 VCR's that show rock concerts and cult movies (and some movies I have never seen before) on 4 monitors around the bar.\r \r The bargirls $pit fire; for real; 151 Rum and a Zippo and they are all set.\r \r There is a great deck / patio that holds probably 40 people; so you can smoke, drink, and raise a lot of hell; there are no neighbors, because it is $mack in the middle of a warehouse district. \r \r And I saw a grill, so I'd guess they cook outside in the good weather.\r \r You are goings to see a lot of tats, pierces, bellybuttons, and cleavage.\r \r I can't comment on the beer because I'm a whiskey drinker, but the beer seems to be dive bar prices.\r \r You'll have fun, and I didn't see any bouncer so that is a good sign that the place doesn't attract a-holes looking for a fight.\r \r BTW; I had to use $ for an s because for some reason they censored $pit and $mack, but not hell, ya got me! Pros: Good place; Nice People, Not Trendy (a plus to me.) Cons: Bar gets cramped when deck isn't useable (cold, snow, rain, killer heat wave.) more

An Evil Kitsch Dream Near The Sugar Factory 9/19/2006

Duff's is the way I want my house to look. It's perfect size, perfect lighting, great music, greater music than compared to any other rock bar around. Other places only have Metal Nights- but Duff's is Metal All the time. There can be some pretty hot chicks, and some decent, upstanding NYDM (New York Death Metal) members- all ready to share booze and barbeque (weaather permitting).\r \r I barely even drink that much and I love this bar.\r Jimmy too.\r \r \r \r <3 Pros: All Duff's Cons: The next door neighbors. more

For a fun party go to Duff's 9/18/2006

Let's start with the obvious TRACY IS BACK and she is at DUFF's. If you want to have a great kickass (figuratively, literally only in the ring) time you have to go party with Tracy. Only bartender I have chosen to travel to her now 3rd location over several years, and she is hotter than ever.\r I thought the Bellevue Bar on 9th had the best Jukebox and Funky Atmosphere. When Duff moved them to Brooklyn he took things to a whole new level. They are better than ever and the atmosphere starts before you even walk in the door. Something the Bellevue never had, an outside deck. Getting a little warm or need a smoke, grab your PBR and head to the deck. Get to Duff's early so you can help get the party started, I did and met some great and interesting people and we laughed our asses off.\r \r GOOD TIMES!!! Pros: Bartenders, Jukebox, Atmosphere Cons: I live in West Jersey and it's located in Brooklyn. I would go to Montauk for Duff's more

Legendary 9/13/2006

Duffs is the Rainbow bar of the entire East Coast, never mind the city . When metal royalty roll through town , Duffs is on the must do list , and for a reason : it's the only true , 7 nights a week metal bar. That's why I'm a regular week in and week out. I've drank with Pantera, Iron Maiden, Type O Negative, Children of Bodom, Rob Zombie and Celtic Frost since I've been going to Bellevue and Duffs . Great times that I will never forget. If those names mean anything to you , then that says it all . Pros: It's ROCKS!! more

Eh 9/13/2006

This place is def cool....but the staff is a bit stuck up. As a metalgodess I didn't get much service bc the broads behind the bar were not interested in serving me. Plus they gave me attitude! Where's the unity?!?! I much prefer Lucky 13 in Dark Slope BK. Pros: Good music, cool outdoors Cons: TOO TRENDY, TOO OBNOXIOUS more
