The price requires much better service1 3/25/2008

The service at TR has definitely gone downhill since it has become an Uptown hotspot, and the prices have gone out of control. It was possible to get a decent red wine for $22-25 per bottle, and that has gone up in some cases by double. The owners are definitely taking advantage of their current popularity, but as always in Houston, the crowd will move to the next hot spot especially if it gets too expensive. The owners are better advised to moderate their pricing from pre-boom to current market and offer a long term commitment to their customers so the customers will stay long term. Based on current events, I will not go back until things change. Mark more

Love it! 10/19/2007

I usually come here right after work for happy hour. It's a great place to relax and unwind. Now that the weather has cooled off, I enjoy a some great wine outside on the patio. The patio is HUGE! The last time I went, I shared a delicious cheese plate and some wine with a friend. It was perfect. Even though I had a bad day a work, it all changed after I went to the tasting room. Pros: A Great patio Cons: Small inside more

Great Wine and Beer! 8/7/2007

I LOVE this place. It is a great, fresh place in the midst of Midtown. It's a great place to hang out and listen to some good music. It's a lounge, so it is very cozy and intimate. I recommend this place to anyone. This place might be a wine bar, but they have great beer AND it is very reasonable. more

Cool place, HORRIBLE service 7/31/2007

The place was really cool. I enjoyed the cozy feeling, the atmosphere, and the crowd. The wine was also very good. It's such ashame that the staff was completely AWFUL. I asked about the availability of a certain wine and one of them just retorted that I should take a look at the menu. Then, when I was placing an order, the other girl was extremely rude to me as well. We didn't know that the bar closed at midnight and my friend ordered a bottle of wine 5 minutes before closing. We barely even had a sip of wine before they were pushing us out the door. I think she could have told us they were about to close before she poured us 4 glasses of wine. She pretty much made us chug our wine and then made it seem like it was the end of the world that she had to stay 5 minutes after closing. I'm not trying to be unsympathetic because I have worked in the restaurant industry before and I know how it feels when people stay after closing, but in every restaurant environment I've worked, we've never once rushed people to leave. I guess you can argue that this is a "bar," but I think it would have been nice for them to tell us when closing was before they let us order another bottle and I think they could have been a little more professional throughout the night. Pros: Cool place, good wine Cons: HORRIBLE service, hours more

Good Location and Good Wine 7/25/2007

It is a casual wine bar with a very nice patio perfect for lounging after work or enjoying the sunset. There was the occasional bum walking by, but no worries, they keep to themselves. Inside the wine bar is a different experience. The space seems a little cramped especially with the large crowds that tend to gather. We had chosen to sit outside because it was bit too loud for us, but everyone in there seemed to be enjoying themselves. We had participated in a tasting that we had found online but because their website is not very helpful I had to retrieve the address and location from citysearch. If you do happen to participate in an event that they are hosting make sure to also call and reserve your spot. There was a couple that did not reserve their spot and they were required to pay a surcharge, but were still allowed to partake. Servers are attentive but because occupancy was so high I did have to wait awhile to close out. Pros: Ambience; Wine; Service Cons: parking; bums more

Great Service 11/21/2006

The service was great, the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They happily explained the details of various wines. The venue is also very cozy, with several couches inside, and a decent sized patio outdoors. Pros: Great Service and Ambiance more

Great affordable wine bar 11/6/2006

I love this place- it feels like you are sitting somewhere other than downtown Houston when you are sitting outside, and the inside is fun as well. The owner (? manager) is always around and is always very helpful. The only complaint I would have is that somtimes when you recommend a wine in a price range they will bring you something way more expensive, but this is an easily avoided problem so not a big deal. The fact that you can buy the bottles for such a low price is amazing and the cheese/meat plates are too! Pros: Affordable, nice staff Cons: Parking more

2nd best in Houston 5/23/2006

This place is great. Less selection as the Uptown locale, but very cool atmosphere and great wines at amazing by the glass pricing. Oh yeah, for the wine lover, check out the happy hour each night--fantastic deals. I've tried the new "wine bars" in town--they pale in comparison. In this case, the original is by far still the best. Look for me there, James Pros: wine, wine, wine more

lovely relaxing atmosphere 4/25/2006

My husband and I recently discovered this place. Now we love going every chance we get since we live on the northwest side of Houston. We have become familar faces and are always treated with great service. We like to sit at the bar since we like to chat with Farrah, but the outside tables are nice as well. Staff is knowledgeable about the wine selections. Overall we love coming here and will continue to make this a regular place to visit when possible. more

Having Only 2 Locations is a Travesty 2/16/2006

A mellifluous place to imbibe with one friend or a group of friend. Do not expect extra attentive service, but don't let it deter you from coming back. The specials are worth taking advantage of and there are ALWAYS specials. Always keep this place in mind if you can't decide on a place to meet a friend. Pros: bring a date, price, selection more

Very rude service 1/14/2006

woman who served us was very rude, snobby and insulting. Found the place over-priced and pompous. Pros: location, parking Cons: snobby, over priced, rude service more

a treasure trove 9/26/2005

If you are a wine lover and you live in the Midtown area, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what this great little place has to offer. Very accomodating staff helped my wife and me to find a great bottle of Shiraz that I have had to pay nearly double for to drink at other bars and restaurants! They serve a very nice little cheese plate and have a number of good places to order from if you want something more substantial. I definitely think that I have found myself a new 'regular' spot. Oh, and they have a great view of the Houston skyline on the patio. Pros: great selection, affordable, great view Cons: parking more

Jazzy little spot for a night out 8/31/2005

We went to this location on a whim. Upon entry, we were greeted with a smile and asked if we'd like a menu. They were having a wine tasting of Phelps and Lincourt at an UNBELIEVEABLE price!! We started with a glass of champagne while waiting. The portion size was nice and well worth the price. The wine tasting was also worth every penny... It has a GREAT atmosphere for a night out - a lounge like feel. We were told about some of the upcoming changes for September and really felt at home. We even were handed a few take-out menus for the area since we were a bit hungry. Really a great overall experience. The bartender was accomodating and helpful. Great prices, great events! I recommend this for a first date or even for a girl's night out! Pros: Good selection, Friendly staff, Fun, romantic place Cons: Parking? more

The wine beat goes on! 8/7/2005

As a big fan of the Uptown Park location, I was glad to see that the quality and atmosphere transfered well to Midtown. It's a great alternative to the bastion of smoky "beer and wings" bars in the area. The wine, prices, atmosphere, and service are all "spot on" Thanks, Tasting Room--and welcome to the neighborhood! Pros: Best wine, cool crowd, hot bartenders Cons: not open on Sun. more

Mid-Town wine bar 7/25/2005

We stumbled across The Tasting Room while taking a walk after eating at Cafe Boticelli. We are glad we stopped. The selection of wines by the galss is impressive and the prices very reasonable. During the early evening you can get two glasses for the price of one. The staff appeared knowledgeble, if a little pretentious, but that did not detract from the enjoyment. Perhaps one slight improvement might be to offer water crackers or bread to eat between tastings Pros: Quiet, Comfortable, Good selection Cons: No snacks more
