Worst mover in pittsburgh stay far away from using this company. Used a smaller family owned mover after and i couldnt believe how much of a better job the smaller company did. Dont use the dumn F*** movers if you want your stuff to get ruined. more

I agree with Carlos, Don Farr Moving and Storage staff are NOT to be trusted. They are unprofessional and will not provide a decent services. When they do break your furniture do NOT expect a response or the common courtesy of any communication. They will promise you the sun, moon, and stars for a reasonable rate and fail miserable and then refuse to stand by their word. more

Worse moving company I have aver dealt with. They are professional scamers. They come to your home with a bill target from the manager's office and they will overbill you no matter what. If you complain to the guys doing the move they become rude and agressive. If you complain to the management they will ignore you and do nothing to try to address your concerns. more

With my job I move around a lot and have used many different companies over the years. I have seen a lot of bad reviews about Don Farr, but at the same time I have used the other options in Pittsburgh with bad results so I figured how bad could it be. I can honestly say that I was very impressed with Don Farr. I had a few problem with the closing on my house and they worked with me and unlike other companies in the past they did not overcharge me for changing my date. In fact they did not charge me at all. more

Watch out!! They act very nice before you hire them, but once they have your furniture they turn bad people!! They are really offensive, and they overcharge!! Do not trust this people!! They are the closest thing to a gang of thugs ready to take your money!! more

Please be smart. It is obvious that Don Farr is writing its own good reviews in this site!! I move frequently because of my job, and my worst experience with a moving company so far has been with Don Farr. Things that you must know: 1) They did not give me a true estimate, they only told me what they would bill me per hour, but the woman in the sales department was so nice that I was stupid enough to trust them. 2) Once they took the furniture from my place the charged me double the hours they took. Obviously, I complained, but they had three big guys in front of me, with rude manners, shouting and telling me that my furniture was already in their truck. 3) They broke a lamp, the vacuum cleaner, and several glasses. 3) On the delivery of my furniture something similar happened again, but worse. They took one hour and 30 minutes to unload the furniture and they charged 6 hours. Again I complained, and since this time I already had the furniture, I told them I did not want to pay for 6 hours. The response was that the guy in charge, with his men behind started to get really rude, shouting at me in a threatening way. There was a point that my wife was crying with a nervous breakdown. I had to give in. more

Patient, Professional, and Reasonably Priced 4/29/2012

Despite the bad reviews here, I hired Don Farr because they gave me the cheapest estimate--by far--for my local move. I'm so glad I took a chance with this company. The movers were quick, efficient, and very careful with my things and the walls and woodwork of my narrow doorways and halls. They carried large, heavy furniture up 4 long flights of stairs, around narrow turns, and didn't leave a smudge or a scratch. When, in spite of many patient attempts, my sofa didn't fit through the door on the first level, the movers took it to the second floor entry and brought it back downstairs once inside. Best of all, the guys kept a great sense of humor about everything, even teasing my hyper-vigilant husband (""whoops--we just tore all this wallpaper off"") and joking that, if we ever move again, we shouldn't call them: ""tell our boss that you want a whole different crew. Say we were lazy--the worst ever."" I'm happy to say neither is true: the movers from Don Farr were outstanding. more

Enjoyed the Company 1/21/2012

After living in my home for 30 years I had to move once my husband passed away. My daughter helped me find a moving company to store some of belongings and move me in with her. And as sad of a day it was for me the 3 young boys they sent me helped make the day a little more enjoyable. We packed up a lot of memories but I was so happy to have the help. I would recommend this company. more

DO NOT USE THIS ORGANIZATION - HORRIBLE, CONS, STINK! 11/2/2011

Do not use this organization for Long Distance moves. You have been warned! You are using this company at your own risk if you do decide to hire them. I moved from Pittsburgh, Pa to Philadelphia, Pa. The price was reasonable, however, when the company called within 40 minutes of picking up my belongings in Pittsburgh, Pa and demanded the remaining $1000 balance after weighing my goods, SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY WARNING SIGN! My belongings were delivered in Philadelphia, Pa 5 days later with a missing Flat Screen TV and slate, solid, wood dining room table snapped in half. The movers stated that they had no clue what happen to the TV and/or the Dining Room Table. The only theory according to the Movers was that someone must have jumped on top of the table to steal the TV and snapped the table in half. However, the truck only made 1 stop in Harrisburg, Pa and the remainder of the time was spent at their Headquarters in West Mifflin, Pa, therefore, it had to be a an inside job. Needless to say, I filed a compliant with the organization and a claim for my missing Flat Screen TV and Dining Room Table. 2 MONTHS LATER I GET A CHECK FOR $103.00. YES, I SAID THAT CORRECTLY, $103.00 FOR A FLAT SCREEN TV AND DINING ROOM TABLE. Please note that they lost the TV and they snapped the Dining Room Table in half. NOT ME. I have reported the company to the Better Business Bureau and am filing a Small Claims lawsuit again the organization. more

Totally disappointed 8/16/2011

Let me start out by saying that I have only written a review twice on service but I feel that people should know what kind of company you'll be dealing with if you use Don Farr. I got quotes from several companies and they were not the cheapest but it was a name that I recognized so I hired them for a short local move. The one positive thing that I will say is that they arrived on time on the morning of the move. It quickly went down hill. There were three movers, one was more drunk or hungover than the next. They had two speeds, slow and stopped. I specifically told them that the furniture that they were moving was brand new and I wanted them to be careful not to damage it. They tore my mattress which voids the warranty. They then moved my dining room table which is a pub height table without removing the legs. They spent a half hour trying to get that table up 2 flights of stairs and through 3 doorways without taking the legs off and this is after I told them 3 times to take the legs off. Could you be any more lazy? Honestly? It's not rocket science. Long story short, my table got damaged as well (scratched and a chunck of wood was missing). I made the movers aware of the damage immediately and filed a claim. I got $126 months after filing the claim. I would not recommend this company. It's bad enough that the movers left alot to be desired and damaged my property but the way that you are treated when filing a claim is even worse. more

I hired Don Farr for a move from St. Louis to Pittsburgh and had a HORRIBLE experience with the company. I was going out of town the weekend before my move and was sure to call and confirm the pickup date the day before I left. Just as my plane landed the next day I received a call saying they were showing up three days early (the day after I got back). That was okay.. schedules change and I was able to finish packing in time. The movers were very nice, although it took them about three hours to move a very small 1 bedroom apartment with exclusive use to the service elevator. It was getting my belongings that was the issue. The guys who dropped my stuff off were rude, granted it was early in the morning so I offered them drinks and later tipped them but they acted like they didn’t want to be bothered. Shortly after they left I realized I was missing about 3-4 boxes (other companies keep track of items as they unload???) – this was a lot considering it was a small one bedroom apartment move. I realized it was about 700 dollars worth of stuff that was missing. I immediately called the company and they directed me to a voicemail where I left all of my information. I never heard back so I called again within a few days, I was redirected to the same voicemail where I left my information, and never heard anything. I finally send the company an email where I got a cold response saying to request a specific person in change of claims. She said they had no record of my two previous messages (don’t trust any voicemails you leave!) and they would send me claim forms. As soon as I received the claim forms I immediately filled them out and sent them in. This was in March. I called over the next several months and they were “still investigating”. At the end of July I received a check for 90 dollars, and the most horrible letter you could imagine from a service company. The letter said they realized this was significantly less than the value of what they lost but it was in my contract and do not contact them again because they have deleted my case. I cannot begin to explain how frustrated this company left me with its horrible customer service and the apathy toward losing my belongings. Also beware of what you sign at the time of pickup. They ask you to inital about 20 times, make sure you know what youre signing, otherwise you could be in the situation that the company refunds you 12% of what they lost because you initialed beside one line of fine print. more

I really thought it was important to take the time to let everyone know the experience i had with this company. After receiving several estimates and even told by other company's snaky ethics to go look for reviews for this company I decided to take a shot with them!!! I must say it was well worth it. I moved from PA-TX and the guys showed up prompt and ready on the pick up day. After watching the guys hustle for serveral hours, and pad wrap every item, they packed the truck tight! TETRIS I said !!! .... why??? Cause its amazing how those guys tightly secure every item. Unload day, Ft. Worth Texas, I had two of the best movers ever show up. I asked them if they were having anyone else come to help but they insisted that it was better for them two to handle the items then bring in extra guys. And you know what... they were the right. The guys worked effiiciently and took the time to go over every item with me and put it where I wanted it! Fantastic job! Well in summary DON FARR WAS AWESOME!!! and I really think that is important to take the time to let people know about a good job when far too ofter people just want to list the bad. more

It was going well until... 6/28/2010

The move started well with the crew showing up at 7:30am promptly, but one of our movers was obvious hung over (he even said he was out drinking really late the night before). The big issue aside from being extremely slow and costing us 2+ extra hours of move time was when they ignored our written request to have our white furniture shrink wrapped prior to the move. They even ignored two verbal directives to put the furniture down and shrink wrap it before trying to take it through the outside door. Much to our chagrin they said it wasn't a problem and proceeded to slam it through the door way. Thats when our brand new white couch was ruined with paint, rust, and dirt. After asking them to stop, they kept going and threw the couch into the truck rather than carrying it up the ramp and setting it down gently. The lack of concern for other people's property is heartbreaking. After seeing how upset we were with their conduct, several phone calls to their office, and a long conversation about how to handle the furniture and our belongings, we again had another incident. This time it occured after they had left when we were evaluating all of our furniture (we couldn't do this while they were there because then we'd be paying another 1-2 hours of labor for them to watch us inspect our furniture). Our dresser had a dozen inch-long grooves in the top, which it obviously was damaged during the move, but the kicker is that they actually took the time to take a black permanent marker and color in the scratches. I've moved myself 4 seperate times without any assistance from a moving company, and will be doing it again the next time I move. It was not worth the money to have them sit around and smoke cigarretes in the bed of the truck while watching the other guy carry one box in at a time either.Your money is best used on a u-haul and a couple of close friends - they will probably be more respectful of your belongings as well. Pros: very few - They were on time for their arrival Cons: Lack of care, slow, unprofessional, costly more
