The food is OK, nothing special, but the price and attitude ruin the rest. Trendy rather than striving for quality. Pros: trendy Cons: food isn't the point of the place

Good Restaurant 9/28/2010

I went to the Sugarhouse Dodo for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was busy, but I didn?t have to wait more than five minutes to be seated. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food. I wouldn?t compare their food with that of fast food or diner food. I ordered the club sandwich with the caesar salad and for dessert I had the key lime pie. I was very happy with the food - it tasted good, and was plated well. I only gave three stars instead of four because the service was very slow and the waiter was a bit standoffish. I will be going back. more

Manager Aaron should be fired 12/30/2009

Bad service, service time too long and food on the fast food scale......not a nice dining experience, i was a bit embarrassed for my guests.....would not recommend as a nice place. They don't know to serve wine.Manager Aaron should be fired for lack of qualifications. The place is a terrible. Cons: food service managment more

Awful awful service 9/18/2009

I liked this place until I had to talk to a manager. Aaron is by far the most disrespectful, mean spirited, condescending person I have ever had the displeasure of talking to. I will NEVER go back to the Dodo in Sugarhouse because of the lack of respect given to me. Absolutely uncalled for. Cons: SERVICE more

Excellent food! 4/26/2009

I have been going to the Dodo since they were on 9th East many years ago. I love their smoked turkey sandwich and the tollhouse pie is amazing! I have tried many items, and I am always happy. The service is generally very good, but I think it's better in Sugarhouse than at the Gateway location. Pros: toll house pie, great smoked turkey sandwich more

Lousiest service in town! 1/25/2009

On a snowy day, two professinals were looking forward to a comfortable brunch in the sugar house neighborhood. Unfuturnately the manager did not acknowledge our existance nor did the wait staff which promulgated our egress from the establishment to a far better brunch at the Sugar House BBQ. Thanks but no thanks! Pros: The place looks good from outside Cons: No service! more

Best Turky Sandwich Anywhere. 1/4/2007

My wife and I tried this restaurant last night before the jazz game. I was a little skeptical due to the bad reviews on this site but was pleasantly suprised, at least until the check came. We both had the turky sandwich with swiss. I was served less than five min after we ordered it and it was amazing. It was simple without tons of veggies and mayo which allowed the smoked turky to shine. The BBQ sauce it was served with was a little too tart for me and my wife wasn't a fan either. The creamy chicken noodle soup it was served with was excellent as well. You can really tell when a soup is made in house or shipped in. I had the white chocolate raspberry tart for desert and my wife had the popular Toll House pie. As good as the turky sandwiches were the deserts made the meal. Both were amazing and not too rich. The only down side to the meal was the $48 bill ( after tip). For two turky sandwiches and a couple pieces of pie it seemed a little high. We left happy and will be back. Pros: The waiter, Turky Sandwich, And desert Cons: Price more

Overrated and $$$ 8/22/2006

Excellent place for a light lunch... 8/24/2005

Date of visit 8/19/2005 @ 12:45 p.m. The appetizer was the Spinach/Artichoke Dip Quiche. It's a pie-shaped piece of artichoke dip topped with a light garlic mayo and served w/ crackers. Light and flavorful. The entree was the Roasted Turkey Sandwich with BBQ dipping sauce. Bread was soft & fresh. Turkey was moist and smoky in flavor. BBQ sauce was tangy and had the perfect consistency. Servied with a small slice of cantaloupe and choice of soup or salad. For dessert I had the Toll House Pie. It's a pie made w/ a cookie dough type filling. It wasn't too rich and had large chunks of chocolate and walnuts in it. Try it! Portions were a little small for the price but the food was delicious. A great place for a light lunch while shopping at The Gateway. The Dodo has the feel of a French Bistro type restaurant. Pros: fresh tasting food Cons: small portion size more

Worst restaurant at the Gateway! 4/28/2005

The ribeye steak was all grisle, and the crabmeat on top, tasted old. WAY over priced for a throw-a-way meal. If you want steak, go to Ruby River in Ogden. The beef tips on a bed of noodles were tasty enough, but stingy of meat for the price charged. The desserts are an embarassment. Frozen mud pie. What a joke! Want real desserts?; go to Red Butte Cafe, and get their Aztec Chocolate tart. If you want real food AND value, go to the Lion House instead. The best thing here: the exit sign! Pros: Gateway location, Service Cons: Food, Dessert, WAY Over-priced, Parking more

Average taste and quality 2/3/2004

I was not impressed by the whole setup of the restaurant to begin with. It was not cosy, and maybe it makes more sense in the summer during lunch. I really like the salad that is served with the sandwich - great carlic vinegar dressing! However, grilled beef sandwich was absolutely nothing special. It was too salty to me, and barbeque sause spoiled the taste of the beef. more

Great Lunch Spot 3/12/2003

The Dodo is a great place to get together with your friends for lunch and grab a sandwich. Let's not forget the great brunch on the weekends. I suggest having the Orange Fajitas on the lunch specials when it shows up! Opps! I almost forgot, they definitely have the best desert in town if your a pie lover! Pros: Service, Deserts, Ice Tea Cons: Seating, Cold, Crowded more

Innovative Entrees/Desserts 8/21/2002

Consistently comes up with new and tasty entrees with a real gourmet touch (such as scallop quiche with Jalapeno Hollendaise); soups are all hand-crafted. Their best feature is their full-time dessert chef who has developed the best desserts in Utah. Try the Lundegras or the Chocolate Polenta Cake. They are constantly rotating menu items, so your favorites may not be available, but you may find a new favorite. Pros: the desserts, innovative food, ambience Cons: limited parking, slightly expensive, mesh tables outside more

Good brunch. 7/27/2002

A good place to take visitors from out of town-- always pleasant for brunch or dinner. Tasty desserts. more

Huge portions, huge taste 7/25/2002

We love this restaurant that consistently has some of the tastiest, most creative and freshest food in town. The chef, Ray Goodman, orders only the very freshest and tip-grade ingredients. The portions are so big we always go home with enough for lunch the next day. Pros: Garden patio tables, Waterfall Cons: Sunday brunch cancell more
