Good Thai food with tons of style 11/30/2006

I'm trying to think of a better word for it, but this place is just cool. I can't believe it is still such a hidden gem. It is right on 45th, just across from a popular tanning salon and the jiffy lube. Djan (the Thai word for moon, I believe) is very stylish, both in the food they serve and the atmosphere they've created. They have all of the Thai favorites, but they put a little creative spin on them. A signature dish is their Fusion Noodles, which are a mix of pad thai and pad kee mao, with jalapeños thrown in (very very spicy!). The decor, like the food, is fresh and inspired. The restaurant is actually a converted house and the decor is all white. Instead of being stark, it is charming and contemporary. They warm the space with votives and a few bright yellow flowers at each table. Even the silverware is fresh and modern. Upstairs they feature a private Thai-style dining room that you can book for special events. There is a small parking lot in the back, but you could also easily find street parking nearby. This would be a great date spot, since the prices are really reasonable and the small tables are perfect for conversation. As another reviewer commented, they also have a great take-out service. more

Thai delivery to die for 8/20/2005

I can’t fairly rate a dining experience at Djan’s Contemporary Thai Restaurant. I’ve never been there. But since we found one of those paper take out menus at our apartment complex THE DAY WE MOVED IN, Djan’s has been feeding us well at home. The service is very fast—I’m sure it varies by location but we usually get our food in around 30 minutes at our place in Eastlake—and it’s consistently delicious. The tofu is fried to perfection, the curries are very good, the noodle dishes are delicious and the calamari appetizer is great. Drop by for a meal or just grab a take-out menu and tack it to the fridge. All major credit cards and checks accepted (I believe). more

Djan's Thai in Wallingford 2/16/2005

I am a huge fan of Thai food, and with a recent job change, I found myself in a Wallingford which has no shortage of Thai restaurants. Many that I have gone to have just been so, so. Overall the experience at Djan's was quite enjoyable. It's in an old house on 45th that has been remodeled. The table we sat at was nice, but it had a bench with 2 people on each side. That made getting in and out a bit awkward. I've only been there for lunch, but the menu seemed to have a limited selection for what I am used to with Thai places. Also, many of the items only had Americanized names, so I had a hard time finding some of my favorites. That said, I was not disappointed with the meal, in fact, it tasted quite good. more
