Best Spa/Salon in the West Michigan Area!! 11/23/2010

I've thoroughly enjoyed my experiences at Design 1 Salon Spa. Their staff cheerfully greets me upon entering the front door, assists me with my jacket, and offers a variety of beverages while I wait. The cucumber facial and hot stone massage are my absolute favorite!! What I enjoy the most is their professionalism and special attention in ensuring an exceptionally relaxing experience for their clients. Very satisfied!! more

I had been needing a quick trim for some time, and found a $10 off any service coupon for Design One. My friend wanted to come along as well, both of us on a budget, and I told her what I had read on their website: TRIMS $10 & UP. Affordable... so we went. more

IGNORED for 45 min! 12/2/2007

When I went to Design 1, my service was just awful! One time at the Plainfield location, I waited 20 min. before ANYONE said hello and then 45 minutes LATER someone asked if I had an appointment. AND THEN - was obviously forgotten about AGAIN because I was then asked by someone else if I had an appointment. I was furious. I assumed the stylist was running behind. It turns out that nobody really knew or cared that I was there! The prices were too high even though there is a structure based on experience. Most of their stylist are brand new out of school and they claim to be "the best salon in Grand Rapids"??? I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK!! Pros: Many locations and services to chose from Cons: Everything else. more

they definitely have customer amenities down. i love the cucumber water. i have only had a massage there twice in the past year. the one on plainfield was great. her name is marie. another time on 28th street my husband and i went for a double massage, and that one was awful. the therapist had a good touch, but it was overall robotic at best. i was also confused on where to go afterwards. i haven't had other services in a number of years, so i can't speak to them. Pros: lovely reception, wide range of services offered Cons: expensive, sometimes impersonal inner staff more

nice and easy 4/20/2006

After spending a LOT of money downtown at Phillip Anthony, I found this place nice and easy to get to. While the staff can be giddy at times, my stylist is a charm. She is mature, fun, and talented.
