Dean and Richard! 5/25/2012

Dear John's sure is a fun place to go on a Friday or Saturday night! Drinks are affordable ($6 - $8), and while it is full on the weekends, it has never been so packed I couldn't get a seat at the bar. But the best part is seeing Dean and Richard perform! Those guys sure give everyone a good time! Don't be surprised to see people getting up and dancing! I love Dear John's and I would happily spend every Saturday night here. It's always amusing! :-) more

You'll feel welcomed here 6/24/2010

This place is a diamond in the rough. Have only been here twice in the evening but the afternoons are fabulously interesting. You'll never know who you'll meet - some young kids who are big Lakers fans or an older gent who must watch the local news at 1pm. Although their daily specials are mostly Mexican, they make delicious clam chowder on Fridays. Sliders are pretty good. You must try the onion slivers. Oh, and they make a mean bloody Mary. Pros: Fun, friendly employees & owners; free parking Cons: Not enough lite, healthy menu options more

We Love it at DJ's! 5/31/2010

Richard and Dean are there every Friday and Saturday night and they are the Best Entertainers in town! They both play horns, keyboards and stuff and play all of our old favorites, everything from Glen Miller to Johnny Cash and Toby Keith. Dean was born to entertain and couldn't ask for a better backup man than Richard. If you go, ask them about the Keytar. Ramon is there a few nights during the week, is quite excellent and offering a more relaxed atmosphere. The food, service and drinks are all excellent and the drinks are both good sized and moderately priced. Pros: Great Food, Drinks, Service, and the Best Entertainment! Cons: We can't go every night more

unique, cozy, romantic, funky 2/24/2010

Dark, old-timey bar, but not a dive. Best bartending on Monday & Saturday. Friday & Saturday more lively, great music, friendly clientele. Many regulars. Special place. Pros: strong generous drinks Cons: food overpriced more

Great Music and Great Food 3/23/2009

Great little blast from the past. The food is really quite good. Great little red vinyl oversized booths, dark lighting, big inviting bar.... the drinks are cheap and the food is great. Pros: Dean and Richard and their horns. more

Classic steakhouse w/ great entertainment 1/25/2009

Pros: No trendies at all, regular folks. Entertainment lineup excellent. Good food. Cons: Small. Must wait for table on a weekend. Make reservations. Looking a little well worn, but worth it. more

A fun local bar and grill with the feel of the 60's. 12/20/2008

Dear John's is a throw-back to the local steak/bar formated restaurants of the 60's here in Culver City. Small, dark, great cocktails, ample parking, good service, and pretty darn good food for the price. To be fair, the food sometimes falls short, but not by much and everyone has an off-day. Fun mixed crowd and it's family friendly. Good specials every week that are affordably priced. I would recommend coming in early on a week-end and trying Rick's Ox-tail soup before the football game come on and have a cold beer with it. Fun little place to take your wife, family or date to without getting too dressed up or make your wallet hurt. So, drive on down to Dear John's off of Culver Blvd. and Sepulveda near the 405 Fwy. and enjoy a more relaxed time with friends and family. Pros: Parking, value, cocktails, tasty food, good location. Cons: sometimes the food can fall short, but not to often. more

Cozy Lil Date Place 1/20/2008

My husband brought me to Dear John's for a date night. I wanted a good filet, and he had read reviews this was the place to go. When I walked in, the atmosphere was a pleasant surprise. It has an old school vibe with big comfy corner booths, ultra low lighting, and a nice piano player off to the side. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. Couldn't have asked for better service. The drinks were good and strong :). Only complaint was our filets were a little overdone on the outside, but the inside was absolutely perfect. I definitely recommend for a date night. The crowd varies in age and is great for a good laugh once they have had a few. Enjoy! Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service Cons: N/A more

Last of its Kind 4/12/2006

We love Dear John's for the atomsphere. It's a real drinker's restaurant, and liquor is very reasonably priced. The naugahyde banquettes and paneled walls bring me back to dinner with my folks in the 60's. The piano player is great. Food is hit or miss. Steaks are often really good, as is the french dip but I'd stay away from more complicated menu choices. There's an interesting array of characters there on Saturday night, some of whom have had a couple two three drinks, which makes this place a lot of fun. Pros: Kitschy, Cheap drinks, Great parking Cons: Food unpredictable more

Hit and miss 4/8/2006

We tried the allegedly excellent prime rib and found it to be tough, inadequately seasoned, and overcooked. (We asked for rare, I swear.) It's worth the extra money to go to Houston's and get the prime rib there. The filet mignon, on the other hand, was great - my wife liked it better than the bone-in filet from Fleming's - I didn't like it quite that much but I definitely liked it. Pros: Filet Mignon Cons: Prime Rib more

Best Prime Rib in Town 8/28/2005

You wont find better prime rib anywhere. I tried many many places, but Dear Johns beat them hands down. I travel over the hill for it. Have never had anything else there. Pros: Prime Rib, free parking, Good Ambience Cons: sometimes service more

First Time Patron Review 7/23/2004

Dear John's had a nice ambience....a 1940's intimate restaurant and bar. It caters to an older crowd. The piano player was entertaining playing a wide array of music. Unfortunately, the food was average....would not recommed the prime rib and the vegetables were bland. The ribs were good. Glad I went but would probably not go again. Pros: Good Service, Free Parking, Good Ambience more

Lovely Tunes at this Piano Bar 7/26/2002

I shouldn't be reviewing this because I am in love with Dear John's on the weekends and it has nothing to do with the food, which I haven't tried. The singing is wonderful, the drinks inexpensive, and the atmosphere is perfect. The first white belt wearing hipster or pretty west sider I see at this place for the kitsch value as opposed to loving the genuinely charming people and atmosphere, I'll just have to scream. Pros: drinks, beautiful singer, no scenesters Cons: no singers on weekday, closed early weekdays, on westside more
