Editorial review from Citysearch 8/23/2013

Hands down the WORST vet to see. Besides the fact that I had waited 45 minutes to even get my little girl weighed, I then waited 15 minutes to get into a room. Once that wait was over, I then found myself waiting another 20 minutes for anyone to come into the exam room. Lets not forget to mention, I had never taken my animals to this vet.. He didn't even introduce himself, his hello was nothing but a rude grin. Once the ""exam"" started (which I could have done myself), he proceeded to give me what seemed to be an interrogation. I could understand being ""concerned"" and asking questions, but to treat your client like a half whit is pathetic. The only good thing I can say about this place is that mostly everyone else was nice.... But that didn't stop me from going to a new vet. Don't waste your time with this idiot! more

Best vet in the area, hands down. If you go there on a regular basis (if you love your animals, you go here. If you don't care and are a cheapskate you go elsewhere) you know the staff and their personal care for the animals. Not everyone who works there is incredibly invested, but most are here to make a career out of their work and all of them bring their own animals. I took my dog here for more than twelve years off and on, I had mixed feelings for awhile. But after going to other vets in the area, I realized they are by far the best. Not only do they do exotics, but they're the only ones who haven't harmed my dogs. They also inadvertently introduced me to my wife.\r \r Ignore the other reviews. Actually, no, listen to them. Take your beloved animal to all the other clinics first. Then take them here. You won't go back to those other places.\r \r And yes, I bet they can be pushy about some things. No different than doctors. Find the right vet, like you find the right doctor. If you don' more

never going there again 2/12/2013

took my blue/gold macaw in for nail and beak trimming. they brought her back to me bloody and her wing was dragging the floor. they tried to convince me she came in that way. after several minutes arguing they finally did x-rays and it showed her wing was broke. they did emergency surgery, put in a rod and pins, kept her for several days, told me she was malnourished and needed their "special" diet, and charged me over $1000.00 for that visit. the bird is 20 yrs old, weighed the same after their diet as she did before, and was playing the day i took her in. they also put a cast on her wing to keep her from plucking it, i asked if it would cause long term affects when removed, they reassured me it wouldn't, but to this day it still hangs down her side. she can never fly again, and they accepted no responsibility for it. we had to go back several more weeks to have cast removed, wing looked at, and recast, another couple hundred each time. oh and took her to another vet after cast was fi more

Rude and Uncaring 8/16/2012

I MIGHT give them another star if my turtle gets better. Our 20+ yr old turtle has been sick recently (mind you, for the first time ever), so like the very caring owners we are, we took it to the only vet around that takes turtles. We waited 45 minutes past our appointment time until they even took the turtle. Another 15 to actually be let into the exam room ourselves, and another 20 until he came in. After throwing a bunch of medical jumbo at us and acting like we were terrible owners for a measly 10 minutes, he made us sit in the room alone for another 20 minutes. Perhaps if the bench was even remotely comfortable I wouldn't have minded so much. Then like other people said, we were then pushed into expensive medications (one, I'm pretty sure is a nasal decongestant...for a turtle). more

Excellent Care 4/1/2012

Needed to locate a veterinary clinic closer to home after a lifelong association with a great animal clinic in Greene County. Our female GSD had a spinal injury that was treated at the Ohio State University. An article spoke about Dr. Brauer's treatment of local law enforcement K9s. Dr. Brauer and all of his staff have provided the best of care to my Savvy, Cassie, Hondo, and Kashmir (GSD) as well as a lab shepherd Samantha and our puggle Molly. I would spend any amount of money for the wonderful care that my dogs have received as well as the treatment by all to my family. more

ME!!! 10/26/2011

Took my dog in because he was holding up his left back leg and not putting any weight on it, SHE put my dog on rimadyl and did not give me any side effect warnings. Two weeks later I took him back and all the symptoms were there, but SHE did not follow up up on them! A week later my dog passed away from the side effects of rimadyl. I found out about rimadyl by going to web sight to claim $10.00 coupon for rimadyl...My loving dogs will never see the inside of that building again nor will will they receive any more money from me!!!!! I would advise anybody to stay away from HER and that establishment!!!!! more

Do not like 7/17/2011

In my opinion , the care and diagnosis of my pets well being was not satisfactory. Medications were prescribed that made my cat sick . Came in for one thing and left with a 400 bill. Took my cat to another vet 5 days later and my cat did not need any of the meds they prescribed and diagnosis was completely different than the one of DSV clinic. If you want to spend alot of money on alot of medications and procedures not needed than this is the place for you. more

Very Good Veterinary Clinic 5/26/2011

I just took my bird there today. After reading some of the reviews I was kinda afraid too. I am really glad I didnt pay attention to them. I was very pleased with the way he handled everything. They did a lot of procedures on our bird, gave her shots, 4 different medicines and a special food to start feedng her. I was expecting some big price because of everything he had done but I was really surprised of the cost. My husband and I were very happy with Dr. Brauer and will definitly go back more

Expensive, ineffective treatment 10/19/2009

I took in a stray, pregnant cat who had ear mites. She gave her kittens and my three dogs ear mites. I've taken them back to Dayton South Vet Clinic three times, spent $700., and they still have ear mites. They did not carry Revolution, and gave half of my animals a one-time treatment, and the other half a treatment that takes a month to work. Of course, they have just kept passing the ear mites back and forth to each other. Their answer was to have me bring the kittens in for more expensive treatments that may or may not work. Revolution would have been the medication to use on my adult animals, since they needed something to protect them from getting the ear mites again. more

Uncaring 8/18/2009

My good friend took her dog there and left her to be treated and they ordered all kinds of unnecessary proceedures that she didn't approve. It cost her almost $800.00. When she complained about it, the clinic knocked $60.00 off the bill. Cons: Rude People/ Run Unapproved Tests more

Great Service/ Great Vet 7/11/2008

Dr. Dan is the best! Another vet told us our dog had a stroke and he probably wasn't going to make it. Dr. Dan knew what to do and 8 months later our dog is doing great. The staff if pleasant and the office is nice. I would recommend Dr. Dan to everyone. Pros: nice office, friendly staff and Dr. Dan is great Cons: non more

Wonderful in a time of need! 12/10/2007

We moved to the area a few months ago. Our parakeet was badly injured last week when it was stepped on. I had a hard time finding a Vet who would help him until I called Dayton South Vet Clinic. They told me to bring him in. The office looks wonderful from the moment you walk in. It is open, sunny, has a pond and plants. The staff is so kind, concerned, and helpful. The checked my parakeet out thoroughly and then gave him medicine and good instructions on how to take care of him. When I called later in the day still worried about him they listened and had me bring him back in. They gave him some more treatment and told me to call or come back if I was still worried. They called me the next morning just to check on him. My parakeet has made great progress in the last few days thanks to all the great help we received. The office also has great hours. I would recommend this Vet to everyone. Pros: Great people, good hours, helpful, good parking, nice office more

Saved BOTH my of my dogs' lives 2/5/2007

We got a German Shepherd puppy from a woman who was not a breeder. We didn't need papers, he was just going to be a pet, so I just found an inexpensive puppy and went and picked him up. We took him to the vet shortly thereafter to get him looked at and it turns out he was full of worms. He got an intestinal infection and was in grave condition. He couldn't keep anything down and was severely dehydrated. The Dr. at Dayton South Vet Clinic nurtured him back to health and saved him. Now he is a perfectly health 5 year old German Shepherd Dog and full of energy.\r \r A couple of years ago, my other dog got really sick. I took her to the Emergency Vet. They diagnosed her with a probable blockage in her stomach. They told me to take her to our vet right away, so we took her to Dayton South Vet Clinic. The Dr. there immediately diagnosed her with Pancreatitis. He confirmed it with blood tests. She had to be hospitalized for 5 days and if he had not had the equipment there to diagnos more

I will always recommend Dan Brauer. 9/12/2006

Dan should pay Michelle six figures. She is amazing. Dan has this annoying habit of rolling his eyes up in his head when he talks to you. Yes, really. They try to sell you every vitamin known to science. Aside from that though, he saved my cat when he ate a five foot string, and has done very well in every serious situation I have ever asked his advice on. He is an excellent vet, I just wish he would care a little bit more. You get the feeling he wishes he were somewhere else. more

Excellent Hospital 4/5/2006

I have taken my pets here for the last 12 years and my pets which consist of 2 dogs, 2 birds and a cat have always had excellent care from the doctors and the entire staff. Some times the doctors run behind but that is due to the thorough care and attention they give to my pets. more

Poor Vet 11/8/2005

The staff is very friendly in this Veterinarian Hospital and the waiting rooms are very spacious. However, aside from its friendly appearance, they often try to push products on you that you dont need. For quick trips to the vet, its a decent enough place but if your pet has a serious illness, I suggest going elsewhere in the Dayton area. more
