Editorial review from Citysearch 3/31/2014

The ladies at Dapper Doggery are always available and welcoming to my rescue pups. We get in and out in no time and the dogs enjoy their visit. Thank you for supporting rescue. I love it that they have the option to do a self dogwash and if I need anything additional done (nails trimmed, anal glands expressed, etc.) they are always there to accommodate my pups needs. Thank you. more

Care Counts More 4/28/2012

The location may not look brand new, my dog doesnt care and neither do I. What we both care about is kindness, gentle handling, respectful treatment and a clean, good smelling well groomed dog. Rocky our 15 year old westie is a dog who remembers bad treatment and let's us know if it has happened. Rocky enjoys going to the Dapper Doggers for grooming, he is happy and relaxed going in and the same coming out. We cannot say the same for other groomers we've tried. Rocky has refused to revisit other locations, they must have treated him poorly. Pros: null Cons: null more

excellent dog grooming service 1/6/2012

I have been very pleased with the dog grooming services of the Dapper Doggery for my dog Lexie. I have always used Robin (groomer) at the Dapper Doggery and she does a fantastic job. It has always been difficult getting Lexie to even go into a groomer's shopl; however, she never does that when I take her to see Robin, she runs right into the door so I know she is being taken care of while she is being groomed. Lexie always looks beautiful when I pick her up and she is very happy and in good spirits. I would highly recommend the Dapper Doggery to anyone seeking a dog groomer, especially the services of Robin. Pros: null Cons: null more

Dapper Doggery Dungeon 1/6/2011

Came into the dog wash without calling (didn't realize you needed an appt,) but the lady said no problem. I would think she would have had time to AT LEAST wash the other dog hair out of the filthy tub before I came back in...yikes. This shop had two employees and yes, they were each grooming a small dog, but what a nasty mess the place was. Stacked filthy crates, filthy floors, and it smelled bad. I know, it's a dog wash right? But still, this was OLD dirt, not "we're just busy today and haven't had time to clean up" dirt. A very unhappy poodle in a big cage with a raging blow dryer barked the entire time, no one even checked on her. I had a small dog (short short hair) and then brought in my big dog, (short short hair). I asked if they had a step or stool I could get him up to the tub with --no go, but she helped me get him in. "When you're done you can just pull him over the side and let him slide down" Yah, um, thanks. Gave me shampoo, and two little thread bare towels. The employee next to me, the whole time on a cell phone, dragged a very scared dog into the tub, wet him down, cut his nails, and left him tied there while she finished her conversation in the other room. I had to put a towel on the tub floor so my dogs wouldn't slide all over the place, and then I put it on the floor so when I hefted the big one down by myself he wouldn't slide. Not complaining about that, but the look the employee gave me was not very kind...or polite...or human......then the other lady informed me I would have to pay extra for the big dog. I wondered if I should get an employee discount since I had to clean the tub before I washed my dogs...and I probably took extra dog hair home...yikes. I will not be going back there...I smiled and said have a nice day anyway--is it too much to ask for a business to be polite and give a little smile? more

NOT helpful/friendly if washing OWN dog 12/17/2009

First of all...this place advertises on a BIG banner hanging on their building that they offer SELF DOG WASH (wooo hooooo!!)...I call and ask details...they tell me that the hours are BEFORE 9 A.M. and after 3 P.M....Ummmm ok so NO bathing inbetween? What kind of convenience is that? So I ask for confirmation of this and the gal(who was very nice on the phone) says go ahead and bring the dog down, they're not too busy. I also explained that I had a husky and would need a blower. She seemed ok with that. I get there...its ok...dirty, hairy, not very professional, but I have worked in the dog world for eons....seen it all. Did NOT like stacked crates...DANGEROUS in my mind...just a heads up to you who pay for your dogs to stay there for grooming...they are in STACKED crates....not good, can easily be knocked over. Anyways...was not offered shampoo, was offered basically a dishtowel to dry my dog. Fine. Been here done this a million times. Washed my dog, blew my dog dry. In the middle of all this, a gal had started to use the tub next to me...looked like an employee, did NOT smile once, nothing..ok then...finish up...go to pay...she tells me its 22.50 (more than I was quoted on the phone...didn't want to know why at that point...i figure I had left the place looking like it has snowed in San Diego....so whatever) - I hand her my debit card she looks at me with an annoyed expression and says "IF you do this again, I need you to pay me in cash or check" - ummmm I say...ok well not sure if that will happen, but what, you dont' take debit? She goes "yes we do but for this kind of transaction, I like to have cash or check" - aaahhhh she likes to pocket the cash or check. GOT IT. No reporting in the books. Nice. There is no reason other than that to not accept a debit card for this. All that said...NO thank you, how was it, can we help you with anything else, not even an attempt at a sales of a future full groom....no good bye, no have a good day. WOW. In all fairness, the other two gals seemed nice enough...but the owner-thing.....nope. Ya, I would rather have driven to my old self dog wash in Temecula and paid for the gas...to have a happy experience. Go to the Animal Keeper in Poway and pay for the grooming....that is my advice....or Kay's in Solana Beach.... Pros: location??? Cons: owner/manager, staff, water pressure, facilities more

Been a loyal customer for 22 years 7/10/2009

The few times I've tried other groomers, it's more expensive, less attention to detail & no one else puts a cute bow or bandana on my dog. The same staff for years that know my dogs by name & exactly how I like them cut. They are all very sweet and really love dogs. I moved further away but still commute to poway to make sure my dogs get groomed right. more

The BEST Dog Groomer! 3/26/2009

I love this place. Not only are the people that work here super nice - they know how to treat their customers (the dogs). I have been going here for over 20 years. I bring all my dogs here and have never been disappointed. The prices are reasonable, and they know how to cut fur =) more

bad self-wash 1/24/2009

I brought my wheaten terrier in to the "dapper doggery" today to use the "wash your own dog" self-wash. The owner checked me in. I bathed my dog and was halfway through drying him, when the owner came and said, "We need this dryer now. We can't stop production for you." They had me using the same equipment that the paid staff needed to use. I was a little irritated, and went to pay, assuming I'd be given some sort of discount for the inconvenience of leaving with a wet, curly, half-done dog. No such luck. When I was asked to pay full price, I paid, and then I explained that as a paying customer, I was considered a part of the shop's "production", and that I was upset that I was leaving with a wet dog. The owner responded, saying that they were busy and didn't know what I expected, and that the other employees get a little "testy" when they have to wait to use the dryer. I told her that my expectation was to not leave with a wet dog. At that point she had my money and didn't make any effort to rectify the situation, so I left. I put my wet dog on the leather front seat of my car, drove home, and dried him at home with my blow-dryer. I won't be returning. more
