Not a Great Catch! 8/26/2002

After reading earlier reviews I was very excited about trying this restaurant. I have seldom been so disappointed. No frills is one thing, but half the menu was scribbled out with a pen. They didn't have the appetizer we ordered- you think they would have crossed it out too! The squid ink pasta was unique, but the shrimp in white sauce was nothing exceptional and certainly not worth the price. This place is $15-$18 for an entree. I would have been much happier at Anna's Taqueria (across the street) with a tasty $4 burrito. Never again. Pros: not crowded, squid ink pasta Cons: not worth the $$$, no ambience more

Best Allston/Brookline Seafood 6/13/2002

Every once in a while, when my wife and I have some extra money and need a romantic night out, we almost always end up at the Daily Catch on Harvard. The atmosphere is a strange mix with quaint decor, blackboard menu, and the small open kitchen. The Lobster Fra Diablo is one of the best dishes in the greater Boston area, with freshly killed lobsters (if you're a squeamish wimp, don't look toward the kitchen after you order!), mussels, clams, shrimp, and squid dressed with a marinara that even this marinara-hater loves. The seafood is consistently fresh and of high quality. The signature squid ink pasta is also fantastic, as are all the classic Italian pasta dishes. It'd be nice if the breads and salads could be as inspired as the entrees, but with such great seafood, that's just nitpicking. Pros: Fresh Seafood, Consistent Quality, Perfect Entrees Cons: Few Tables, Inconsistent Sides more
