Legendary Party Spot 11/18/2008

The Phoenix is, to this day, where touring rockers touch down in SF. It's definitely a party hotel, although staff is known to roust unrulies...but that's to be expected; some people are actually trying to sleep. Pros: Oasis-like courtyard with pool Cons: Crackheads outside the oasis more

Awesome Stay! Great service!!! 2/16/2008

Stay was great! Staff is that of a 5 star hotel. We got a call within 10 minutes of entering our room, to make sure everything was ok, and if we needed anything to just call. I have never had that at any hotel I have stayed at.\r \r Shower was a bit disfunctional, water fills up like a bath while you shower. Bathrooms definitely need some remodeling. \r The area is not for the snooty, but the cultural and worldy type. Don't let the street people scare you, they are absolutley harmless. Still a great place to stay and centrally located. The continental breakfast was fresh and coffee was fantastic, I love the heated patio.\r \r Bed was very comfortable and linens were awesome. Super clean room. I enjoyed it, we don't usually spend a whole lot of time in our room anyway, but we certainly could have with the comforts of this one. Pros: Very private and secluded! Cons: Small bathroom and shower more

Worst staff ever!! continued 7/1/2007

I decided to brush it off. I went back to my room and took the bags out. As I was walking out I saw a few people I met the night before . It is around noon now and we all decided to chill by the pool since it was a nice day and have a couple of drinks. So we are all having a great time in this great pool area that this hotel has . Sore enough here comes the blonde hair doo girl Everyone who has checked out nedds to leave know. I counted up the rooms and the ammount of people there made up at least 7 rooms. I think their staff needs a little more trainig in customer service. I loved the hotel, but the service was horrible all around , the staff all looked like they couldn't give a feces weather you like it there or not. There is a Shrine to Vincent Gallo on the second floor by room 44, it was funny. Pros: Maybe the price Cons: great pool area more

Look out cuz soul is back! 5/30/2003

As a young business traveller, I usually try to avoid cheesy contemperory hotels. So when I was in SF I decided to check out the Phoenix. Luckily the night I arrived was the grand opening of the new club/lounge/restuarant in the hotel. Food was great: try the alaskian halibut. Club was fun: loads of hot women. Staff was very friendly. While this hotel is located in the Tenderloin district, I didn't have any problems with the neighbourhood. If you like to party and are looking for a hotel: just GIVE'R at the phoenix. You won't regret. They even have bambo xenlophone-esque instruments in the rooms! Pros: hot women in club, good food, friendly staff Cons: weekdays are quiet, serve more booze more

great place to end the night 3/5/2003

whenever i'm in the city for a night out, i park it at the phoenix. this place is not for those who want a relaxing, luxurious getaway. There is a nightclub right in front (which isn't so hot) and a few times I have been here when a bunch of people hang out in the courtyard and play music and party til the early hours of the morn. That's why I like it. Birthdays, graduations, anytime I 'm going to party all night I know I can come back to the phoenix and continue my fun (RESPECTFULLY) as long as no one gets rowdy or rude. The rooms are very clean, funky and the front desk people are always cool. The beds are comfy and its surprisingly quiet in the AM so I can sleep right up until checkout... I always recommend this place to my friends. Pros: chill place, kind people, funky & comfy rooms Cons: pool closes early, club in front SUCKS, needs a jacuzzi more

Ughhhhhhhhhh!! 11/5/2002

My boyfriend and I stayed here on a party weekend. We had these she-men practically break the door down to see if we had any underaged people in the room or hiding anyone. A complete invasion of privacy and the tacky hotel could use a face lift. Not to mention the neighborhood isn't exactly the safest. Cons: No Parking, Horrible Area, Over Priced more

Funky Dump 9/24/2002

I picked it from a webguide When I told a friend from SF where I was staying she said ""why?"". And why indeed. It's a barely renovated motel with no air conditioning, thin walls and a nightclub (great club, great music, but you don't want it to rock your bed) When I got there, the guy at the front desk said (suffering) ""I am the only one here on Saturday morning, can't get anyone to work here, here's a luggage cart"". He said to avoid walking down 4 blocks immediately sourrounding the hotel. He was nice about it, marked the blocks to avoid on a decent map. The room was large, but the renovation simply a funky paint job and a basket glued to the wall. If you need a place where 4 people can fit into a room, then it may be a deal. Single, it's an expensive dump. Pros: ifyou are a rock band, great club Cons: noisy, low budget shows more

GROOVY, BABY!! 8/9/2002

The best hotel in San Francisco!!! The staff are hip, friendly and helpful with no attitude. My room was unique with a wild and carefree decor - I dig xylophones!! My battery died in my rental car and while I was out on the town, the desk clerk had the battery charged for me - free of charge - I was amazed!! An oasis for the hip & trendy - three thumbs up!! Pros: Friendly staff, Nice pool, Funky decor more

The place to stay 8/8/2002

There is no words to describe how wonderful it feels to stay at the phoenix hotel, this my home away from home. Mgmt, and staff are always there for me. that is why I'm voting for the most wonderful hotel boutique in the whole country, and I always will vote for this hotel. thanks Pros: inexpensive, convenience, good service more

farout and funky! 8/4/2002

if you want to go someplace and be treated like family...enjoy great entertainment and hang with rockstars...this is definately the place to be...relax by the pool...and rock on! Pros: great staff, cool pool, funky decor more

Uber Hip 8/3/2002

The service at this hip urban San Francisco hotel is beyond expectations. With its cool courtyard with palm trees and pool, to the uber-cool mid century modern furniture, the Phoenix is San Francisco's styley urban oasis. more

Phoenix Rises 7/25/2002

I Love this hotel, from it's great heated pool, to the groovy staff. From the cool nightclub to the rockstars. The Phoenix always rises for me. more
