We rent from Montlack near Coventry and it started out fine. The rent was a little steep but with a good location I decided it was okay. The apartment is nice and big with an updated kitchen. Recently however our heat stopped working in January. We had told them 2 months earlier that there was a problem with the heat because it would come on and then go off for hours making it frigid in the apartment. So finally it totally stopped working and has been off for 3 days. I have called the emergency pager and the maintenance office but still nothing has been done. They assure us that they are in the process of fixing it but will not provide details as to what is wrong or how long it will take. It is probably 30 degrees in the apartment and almost unlivable. Some of our fellow tenants even started a petition when the heat was first having problems and Montlack still did nothing. MONTLACK should be shut down! They have no ethics, no shame. They had been reported by many of my friends to B B B. It is unbelievable how they screw over their residents. For example, they try their best to keep your security deposit when you leave. They'll come up with any excuse, even invent stuff up. The people are so rude on the phone. They speak like they are doing a favor for you. I hope they go out of business, but they are like a monopoly in the this part of Cleveland. My apartment with Montlack is clean and nice. They were fast and efficient in taking care of two minor requests that i've had in the 6months that i've lived with them (an insect issue and a request to put in my air conditioner). However, they have been completely apathetic and unresponsive to a series of car robberies that have occurred in their secured garages. In 6 months, I have seen three windows busted out of cars in our locked garage- the third one being my own. When i phoned them about the event, the person says ""we'll make a note of it"". After realizing how unacceptable that response was, i phoned again to talk to management, and they gave me a run-around about how they can't explain why break-ins happen. They acknowledged the series of break-ins but are not willing to take action such as installing cameras. I've lived in cleveland for 7 years, and this is the first time i've ever seen this type of problem. I have a friend who used to rent from Montlack several years ago. He had the same problem in his garage back then, and knew of other Montlack garages who shared the same problem. Seems to me that they would put in cameras if it weren't coming from within. Montlack noted themselves that the problem was likely someone in the building, and if there is a criminal in the building, i am fearful that other worse crimes will happen. They apparently do not feel any responsibility for the safety of their tenants, and I would not recommend Montlack Realty. more
