Rudest Service Ever! 9/17/2011

The breakfast servers are hands down the rudest we've ever had the misfortune to encounter. The food is good, but not worth the aggravation. From the moment you enter the courtyard, you are treated as if you are an interloper, and the attitude is pervasive. We had a particularly hostile waitress, a black lady with short black hair, who would look at you and say, ""and""... if you did not order to her satisfaction. As a former wait person, I am baffled by this attitude. We won't eat here again. more

Didn't realize service could be this bad 2/27/2011

It's amazing. I never realized it was possible to feel this unwelcome at a restaurant. The wait staff was downright hostile. 30 minutes just to get an order in. When we asked (very nicely) to place our order, we were met with attitude you cannot imagine. Once the meal came, we were held hostage. No more coffee. No water. No SILVERWARE to even eat with. When I finally got up to ask for silverware (and be allowed to eat), I was told not to get out of my seat again. No check even. We had to calculate the bill ourselves based on the menu. It was the only restaurant I've ever been to where I was legitimately concerned about a confrontation from wait staff. Plus the food was poor and everything was dirty (including the silverware we had to plead for). Worst restaurant experience of my life. Amazing. We would have gotten up and walked out except for the hostility we would have experienced as a result. Run far away from this restaurant. more

FAIL!!!!!!!! 6/16/2010

(RE: 2 months ago) I was told about the Coffee Pot Restaraunt by a friend who frequents the Quarter. My friend really pumped up this places reputation and ""amazing"" food. When my girlfriend and I walked in it was a fairly busy Saturday night. Our server......James?...........Jonathan?......was very friendly and very knowledgeable about drinks and menu items. Even though he seemed busy he helped us decide on a dish. To say the least the food was terrible. The food did not taste fresh and I felt like I had just wasted my time and money. We saw some young kid , ""the chef"", throw our dishes in the microwave and then sit them in the window for five minutes to dry out under a heat lamp. Old frozen food.......awesome! Our server was very gracious about us disliking the food. He seemed to be a very hard worker. The ""manager"" on the other hand (a larger gentleman) looked like a vulture hovering over the waiters making their jobs harder. To the servers: GOOD JOB! To the manager or owner: Your food sucks. You're supposed to care about the product you put out. My friend who recommended this place came here about a year ago and talked about an amazing dining experience and an awesome manager and servers. When I decided to come in to have that same experience I got leftovers, a 12 year old for a chef, a manger that takes his ""job way too seriously, and 1 AWESOME server!!!! Whom I feel bad for because he has to work at the crappiest restaraunt in the Quarter. Oh yeah................the soft drinks were spectacular! Pros: Fast and friendly service Cons: Read the review more

Fantastic Food 10/13/2009

My girlfriends and I ate here for dinner and had an overall great experience. I ordered the parmesan encrusted snapper, and it was excellent. The entrees were a little expensive, but the food was so good, it seemed worth it. I'd go so far as to say it was probably the best meal I've had in all my five trips to the French Quarter throughout the past 10 years (and I've experienced a variety of French Quarter restaurants.) Can't wait to take my husband there next trip. Pros: Fresh seafood, outdoor seating, casual atmosphere Cons: somewhat slow service and a bit expensive more

What happened to the this Restaurant???? 9/12/2009

I visit NOLA 2X a year. I almost always eat breakfast or brunch here... however this past Labor Day Weekend (Sept 2009) when myself and two friends went there they managed to screw up all 3 orders, never rectified the situation and on top of all that added an 18% GRATUITY to the bill. So the service is horrible, the order was wrong and we are being forced to tip. NEVER AGAIN. Pros: it USED to be good Cons: They added an 18% gratuity for a table of THREE more

The true New Orleans Experience!!! 9/4/2009

First I would like to address a few of the negative comments that I've seen in reference to the food here. For instance the one that said the bisque was too salty.........um no!!!! I live in New Orleans and I frequent this quaint little place often and the food is not over cooked or over seasoned. To say the least this is some of the best food in the French Quarter outside of fine dining. This is the way creole and cajun cuisine is prepared. If you want the same old bland food why didn't you just stay home and cook something out of a box??? My point is............If you ""the traveler"" are looking for good atmosphere, funny and lovable servers, and stellar food look no further than this little nook in the heart of the Quarter. Ignore the criticism and give in. You'll be happy you did!!! Pros: The salads, soups, and staff!!! Cons: Parking more

The WORST of the French Quarter! Horrible! 12/23/2008

I have lived in New Orleans for over 10 years and this is absolutely the worst dining experience I have had in the city, possibly even in the world. The slow, rude, and hateful staff could not possibly care less about the customers or the quality of the food. If the awful service isn't enough of a reason to avoid this so called restaurant, the food certainly is. Horrid is too kind of a description for the food we were served. It was greasy and nothing seemed fresh. Even the coffee...ugh...I can't even begin to describe the foul taste of the brown water in the coffee cup! Of the many wonderful places to eat in my beautiful city, please do not dislike your self enough to go here. Please learn from my mistake. Spare your stomach and your day. Avoid this place at all costs! Pros: It keeps bad waitresses out of good restaurants. Cons: The only thing worse than the service is the food. more

My Little Hole in the Wall 6/24/2008

A good overall experience. I frequent this place and don't know what the complaints are about. As someone who has worked around the city for a while and now in the quarter, this is one of the few places a local can go to get decent food at affordable prices. I like having the servers know my name and the bartender knowing my favorite drink. As to the last review, I know going in that this isn't some commercialized tourist experience. Sometimes the floor is dirty and the staff is ""colorful"", this is the French Quarter. I can go for good breakfast on my time (1:30 in the afternoon) or a good dinner and not spend my whole paycheck. Their chicken andouille gumbo is one of the greats in the quarter. For seafood gumbo, I would have to say the gumbo shop down the street is a little better, but the price difference more than makes up for it though. I love this place. Pros: Great food and prices Cons: French Quarter Parking more

SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG HERE! 5/19/2008

I am working in New Orleans and sampling different restaurants. We had eaten breakfast here Pros: I am at a loss. Cons: Dirty, food bad more

Great food. One bad waitress. 4/20/2008

We ate here for ""brunch"" and the food was great. I believe we must have had the same waitress as another reviewer. her name is Billie Jean. Boy--she was terrible. The food order was taken quickly enough but, when the order arrived it was wrong. There were four of us and only one had the correct order. When we tried to get the correct food she acted like we were trying to change our orders. Well, needless to say the correct items never found our way to the table. Toast was never brought. Some of us got potatoes and not the grits we ordered--and vice versa. She never came back to the table and never offered any refills. Time for the check and sure enough another waitress had to find ole Billie Jean. She brought back credit card receipts and then stood over our shoulders while we wrote the tip amount in---sure was intimidating. So I say go eat there the food we received, even though wrong, was delicious. Just ask NOT to be seated in Billie Jean's section. Pros: great food Cons: Billie Jean sheds bad light on serive more

Breakfast or Brunch, the Coffee Pot's the place 1/12/2008

Found over 14 years ago, and recommended it to my friends who travelled to New Orleans (I would sincererly doubt it would have lasted this long if the quality of food/service described by the prior reviewer were anything other than an aberration). A perfect little restaurant halfway between Bourbon and Jackson Square, it's off the beaten path allowing prices to decrease while the quality of your meal increases. Well-rounded menu choices with food delivered very quickly and very hot. And that 's critical in New Orleans over a weekend. more

Worst service EVER!!!, worst food EVER!!! 4/10/2007

I've eaten at hundreds (maybe thousands) of restaurants in the US and this one takes the cake for poor service. We went there for breakfast - big mistake. After being told that the wait for a table inside would be 5 minutes, we stood in the cold for 20 minutes looking at the menu. Pros: Nothing Cons: Rude wait staff, slow service, overpriced, greasy food more

Outstanding find in Old New Orleans 12/12/2005

Took a spontaneous trip one night to old New Orleans to check out the sites. Walk around a few blocks looking for a late nite place to eat. To our surprise walked upon the greatest find ever! The Old Coffee Pot Restaurant. The atmosphere was wonderful, the place itself was like being in another time, and the food was excellent! The service was beyond exceptional. We were given a special tour by ""Guy"" the maitre'd/Headchef/Bartender on that evening. We had Seafood & Gumbo for dinner, Pecan pie for dessert, and specially prepared beverages. Overall meal and pricing was the best ever compared to the more premiere restaurants in New Orleans. Guy was an awsome conversationalist and really made us feel at home. Can't wait to go back for another visit. This time Breakfast,Lunch, and Dinner!!! Thanks Guy from Edith & Ernie. Pros: Great food, Great price, Great atmosphere Cons: NA, NA, NA more

A great restaurant with a lousy name 9/14/2005

Really a great restaurant! we fell in here for an early light dinner and it was really tasty! Nice ambiance and friendly staff. and it was CHEAP! the cons...well, they seated a large group in the dining room, which they really can't handle! I think it was 16...crazy. We were already done with our meal so it wasn't too bad when the decibel level increased...we could leave if we could grab our waitress! They REALLY ought to change the name of the place...as ""coffee pot"" says breakfast...but their dinners were great...and did I say CHEAP? Pros: good food, inexpensive Cons: loud, service slow more
