Great! but NOT FOR EVERYONE 9/15/2010

I've been to Rocky Horror a couple times and Repo once. Even had my 18th birthday party there a couple years ago. It's a fun night out doing some crazy stuff that's a blast if you get into it. It's an ACTICE movie where you become involved in the show.\r \r But be warned: it is NOT your typical moviegoing experience. You might want to watch Rocky or Repo on DVD before seeing it there so you know what's going on. \r \r Pros: Unique Portland Tradition, Zany fun\r Cons: Not for the easily offended \r \r PS to all the people saying it's so gross and humilating... my dad told me stories of what they did back in the 80's and early 90's. The stuff now is nothing compared to what it was back then. more

I've been there a few times, and I can't say that the most recent time I enjoyed it, but it was a bad day for them. \r I have to warn people, it is place to go only if you have seen the movies before hand and are going for the experience(at least for Repo or Rocky Horror, I can't say for other movies).\r The experiance is a crew of people dressed up, yelling, singing, making jokes at the screen, and including the audiance. Which when well done, and you are expecting it, can be great fun. more

Look before you go! 10/22/2009

If you are going to the Clinton Street Theather, look at what you're seeing before you leap. This person below me obviously did not go to the website or do any searching. He didn't seem to notice that Repo! The Genetic Opera was not playing at any other theaters. \r I've been going to Repo! The Genetic Opera at the Clinton Street Theater every friday for the past 3 months, and I absolutely adore it. The actors are friendly and funny. If you want to have a good time, and there's not a stick up your ass, go to Repo! at the Clinton Street Theater.\r \r Warning: Yes, there is yelling, screaming, comments, and insuing hilarity. But if you want it quiet, rent it on netflix people. more

Repo! Worst experience of my life. 8/1/2009

It was horrible. My date and I sat down and immediately realized we had come to the wrong place. We had met another couple in line who had never been to the Clinton St. Theater, they were easy to spot as they weren't 90 lb's overweight covered in makeup with dyed hair, all four of us left with the same angry disgusted expression after realizing we'd wasted $16 and an evening at this foul hole in the wall. Consider it like trying to watch a film surrounded by 7 yearolds screaming out stupid comments/advice to the characters. To get an idea what I'm talking about find a couple particularly low brow Youtube videos, get someone with a really obnoxious voice to yell out all the inane comments everyone posts directly behind your head, while you are trying to enjoy a movie. That's what this is like. There was one woman in our showing who managed to yell out something completely mind numbing after every sentence in the movie. I couldn't even enjoy the film, or the half-assed acting. It was really more three-quarter assed acting because that's how much of the pale flabby posteriors the actors wobble around the stage displaying. The absolute worst part about this experience besides not being able to see the movie at all, enjoy the music of a rock opera at all, having to listen to horrendous pork beasts bellowing all night, was the lack of clothes on the aesthetically challenged actors. This venue is like a retreat for morbidly obese alternakids to run around naked/perform lapdances (this actually happened as part of the ""performance"") on stage. I left feeling nauseated, embarrassed that I'd brought my date there, and tense. Very tense, this was the kind of place where I was constantly on edge because everyone around me was acting in a way that causes me to grind my teeth in annoyance. Honestly a waste of a perfectly good evening. BEWARE I hear the Rocky Horror Picture Show is even worse. Pros: They are playing Repo! Cons: Morbidly Obese Nudists on the stage. more

It's The Clinton Street Theater! 7/26/2009

I have been going to Rocky for about a year and a half now and I have been going neerly every week for the past 6 mounths or so. In fact, I just joined on of the 2 casts that preforms there. I Love going to Rocky! No, we are not realy actors but we d owant to put on a good show! Do you know why we preform every week? It's not for money because we don't get paid. It's just because we love it! We also want to have fun with it! Yeah, people do throw tihngs and yell inaporpriate callbacks at the screan but that's part of the experience! Understand that Rocky isn't for everyone and it's really not about watching the movie. This is how the late night showing of Rocky has been for over 30 years!\r \r The people that go to and work at Rocky are some of the nicest, most intelegent people I have ever met if you just give them a chance.\r \r Also, every friday night at 11, we are preforming Repo! The Genetic Opera. This is very similar to Rocky but it's not as ""dirty"" I guess you could say. If you want to go to Rocky but think it might be too much, I suggest Repo! Pros: fun, people are really nice Cons: the floor is sticky...? more

LISTEN UP! 7/26/2009

People need to understand the fact that Rocky isnt for everyone. but if you do decide to go you must understand that it is a CULT MOVIE! which means people will screem things at the screen and the people acting in the front are just there to have a good time. It is an amazing experience and if you leave after ""10 mins"" you didnt even give it a good try! it is true that the people there may be weird but hey! thats portland and they cant help that. its what makes it so fun. the people at the clinton mean well and they are very kind. lots of them act creepy for the fun of it and they do it to give the audience an experience. something to talk about with theur friends. please if you read this consider going to Rocky because it has been running for over 30 years and it would be a shame to see a well known tradition just die because some people are close minded. the clinton is the longest running rocky cast in the country and portland should be proud of that. if its not your thing dont go but it is a real experience so please give it a try ^_^ Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: nothing more

THEIR ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW WAS SO TERRIBLE! 5/11/2008

I LOVE Rocky Horror Picture show, but this place did such a horrible job with the movie. My group of 10+ friends left after 5 minutes. There are terrible ""actors"" who are about 18 years old who swear every other words and yell obscene things at the screen. You can't hear the movie and they don't talk or sing along with the movie, just yell ""inappropriate things."" We were so angry that they ruined the movie, we left. The management was horrible too because when we said we wanted our money back they said ""sorry, this is what we do."" Well I wish I would of know that's what they did! DO NOT GO TO THIS THEATER! P.S. You can't drink beer in the theater - you have to drink it first. Pros: Nothing Cons: ""Actors,"" can't drink beer inside theater, can't hear movie over yelling more

NEVER GO SEE THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW 3/22/2008

UNLESS YOU WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE WITH AMATURE ACTORS YELLING AND JUMPING ON THE STAGE TRYING TO ACT OUT THE MOVIE WHILE ITS PLAYING...THEN DONT GO ITS A WAST OF MONEY THEY MAKE PEOPLE PRACTICALLY GET NAKKED, TO INITIATE THE ""VIRGINS"" TO THE SHOW ITS DISGUSTING,JUVENILE, AND DIRTY.....WE LEFT AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES...ITS LIKE WATCHING A BUNCH OF 12 YEAR OLD THEATRE GEEKS GET NAKEDD AND TRY TO ACT....... Pros: N/A Cons: HORRIBLE more

BEST EVER, NOW WITH BEER 10/2/2005

OK, You may or may not agree with me that The Clinton St. Theater has the best indie movie selection in town. But now thaey have really outdone themselves. They have added a full service brewery next door and connected the two. So now, you can take beers into The Clinton. The place is amazing, and I hope the beer brings in more customers. The place rocks! Pros: popcorn, beer, movie selection more

BEST EVER! THANKS. THE MOVIES ARE THE BEST IN TOWN. THIS PLACE RULES! Pros: FILMS more

GEM! 11/7/2003

OK, I just saw a Pristine Print of True Romance. Where else in the world could you do that? There have been many improvment to the theater. New seat are cozy. The best movie Popcorn on earth! Someone mention to me they have a secret recipe, and they use REAL butter! Cheap Prices for the movies. Of course the reason this place kicks ass is the amazing selection of films. The neighborhodd is also hip and fun. Try Dots after the late show for some good grubs. Pros: Movie Selection, Popcorn, Prices Cons: No Weekly Matinees more

A must for film fans... 8/29/2002

Very charming, little theater mainatined by a bonafide film fanatic. The type of theater that every large town/city needs: frequent thematic bookings of multiple films (trashy motorcycle 60's movies, W.C. Fields shorts, etc.), cheap treats, and reasonable admission. A sanctuary for any cinephile. Pros: cozy, broken-in, eclectic more

Less is More! 5/21/2002

Sure, The Clinton isn't very much to look at when you first enter it, but the friendly staff and unique film choices totally make up for it. Make sure to check out the Rocky Horror Picutre Show on ""cabaret nights""! They are crazy! more
