Chefs of New York Pizzeria

I heard great things about this place. I wanted to try them out and see for myself and what a shame. The girl on the phone yelled at other employees while I could hear her. I picked up my order to go and it was wrong . I called to let a manager know how upset I was and he was the only person I dealt with that had a hint of class or respect for the customer. I asked what the owners name was and was told to ask for Vincent. When I called to speak with him during the time he was to be there I was asked to leave a message when I could hear him in the background asking, 'Who is it? and the guy said I don't know. 'Then take a message. ' Can you call back at 2:00? Do I have to chase someone down to see if they care? I don't think the service is worth the price. If the owner doesn't care, why should I? I think I will go to Amici's pizza in dublin for some real pizza or even Zacharys for deep dish. At least they are nice and well worth the wait and drive. I will pay more for food I order to be the right food and for the employees to at least act like they care. I suggest skipping the whole hype thing and get some Little Ceasers pizza from across the street if you are desperate, than to be treated like dirt and get the wrong order. On their worst night, Chefs of New York's pizza beats anyones in town. Since we're talking Modesto, maybe that's not too impressive. Okay, I'll go so far as to say that Chefs of NY pizza just might be the best pizza in the central valley. I'm from NY, so I know pizza pretty darn well. They do a respectable thin crust "Neopolitan" style pie as well as a thick crust "Sicilian" pie. The Neopolitan is close to a NY pizza, aside from the crust being a little chewy, and the curious use of cornmeal to keep the crust from burning in the oven. (sacrilege) The Sicilian, however takes the cake. It's the closest thing to a NY Sicilian I've tasted in the 11 years I've lived here. In addition to their pizza, I have tried most of their pasta dishes and they are top notch, with generous portions. Try it once, you'll be back! Pros: Best Pizza In The Valley, Easily. I would have to agree with the previous three reviews. We tried Chefs of New York Pizzeria for the first time tonight and really liked the food and reasonable prices. We both had our own custom slices of pizza, which were perfect as we weren?t in the mood for splitting a large. The crust was thin (just like NY style), light, and flavorful. I commented that the sauce could have used a little more ?kick? but in retrospect, that might have detracted from the flavor of the fresh ingredients! We will definitely be back. p.s. Chefs became a frequent lunch spot for me while I was working for another pizza parlor right down the road! Funny yes, but seriously, Chefs is really great! The owner is a real Italian gent with the accent to match and knows how to make a good pie! They have a full menu of pastas as well but i have always just had their pizza and garlic knots. My favorite pizza there is the white pizza, which is made with ricotta cheese instead of regular!! ITS GREAT!! Get the knots too because they're cheap (.25 each.) Pros: Great pizza, friendly service, inexpensive as far as pizza goes Cons: good to call in because there is usually only one person working there so waiting can be long at times. more

The best part of Chefs of New York is not that it was directly across from my old apartment. It's not the reasonably priced cuisine or even the (truly yummy) garlic knots. It's the fact that all of the entrees that I tried (perhaps half a dozen) were all satisfying and tasty. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but it is a great place for take out or delivery. I highly recommend their stuffed shells, veal, or any type of pizza. Chefs of New York is probably the best pizza/Italian restaurant in Modesto. It serves the best pizza in town, and has a full menu of Italian dishes as well. Its ambiance is informal, but comfortable. It is a great family restaurant and does not have any noisy kids games. Give it a try! I don't think you will be sorry. more
