best dance classes! 9/23/2013

In response to DanceMom+, thank you for your loyalty to Center Stage. I am glad that you can see the passion that the teachers have for what they do. We really are passionate about what we do!\r \r I am sad to hear that you feel we are biased in the treatment of the students though. I know that from the outside looking in to the studio room, it's hard to know what is actually going on inside the studio. For my own class that my daughter is in, she happens to be the tallest kid in her class which usually puts her in the center for formations. Look at any high school dance team line and you will see that the tallest kid goes in the center because it just looks right that way. She is usually in the back because she is tall, and in that class, the front row and back row often switch lines in the dance so that all students can be featured in the front row at some point in the dance. As for other teacher's kids, the only other one you can be referring to is my niece who I also teach. If you look back at recital videos, you will see she was not in the center of her dances for the past couple of years because she is not the tallest in class. There were some times that she was lifted because she was the lightest. I spend a great deal of time choreographing, and when I do so, I don't think about spotlighting certain dancers, I think about what will work well and look best for the group. If anything, teachers are harsher on their own kids for this very reason - because we don't want anyone to think they are getting preferential treatment. Sometimes it goes to the point that our kids are being unintentionally left out. We have a hard time choosing them as a ""smile winner"" or ""graceful winner"" in class even if they are deserving because we don't want to be seen as unfair. What's unfair is that they don't get to be chosen as often as the other kids. In addition, I would never save the best choreography for my own kids. Each time I choreograph, I give my best effort to make each student shine. All of my choreography reflects both me as an artist and as a studio. I only give my best. Again, I am sorry you feel this way, and I would be happy to discuss anything that you feel is unfair in person. Please feel free to contact me any time. Pros: fun classes, nice teachers, great recital more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/13/2013

\r My children have been at Center Stage for several years now. The instructors there are all very good at what they do and have a great passion for the art of dance. The biggest drawback to the studio is that they DO NOT treat all of the girls the same. The owner and other instructors give preferential treatment to relatives by giving them the best choreography and spotlight them by placing them front and center over all of the actual paying customers children. more

Great studio 5/26/2011

This is a great studio, especially for younger dancers. Classes are very age appropriate and fun. I think it is great that they have different classes that you don't always find at a dance studio, such as cheerleading and musical theatre. I have nothing but positive things to say about this studio. more

Look elsewhere 5/26/2011

If you are looking for serious dance instruction do not look here. Discipline is non existent. Instructors change frequently. Building is way to cramped. Also don't expect people that work there to follow their own rules, and always expect instructors children to come out on top, regardless of skill. more

Love it! 5/25/2011

Both of my daughters attend Center Stage. One takes dance, and one is on the competitive cheer team. One thing that sets Center Stage apart from other studios that we have tried is the expertise of the instructors. Most of the instructors have college degrees, many in education and dance, and have extensive experience in working with children. My daughters have not only flourished in technique and grace, but also in confidence and perseverance. The teachers care tremendously about each student and instill lifelong values within them. We have been exceptionally happy at Center Stage and plan on staying there for a long time!! more

Awesome studio!!!! 5/25/2011

My 3 year old daughter has been going to center stage now for about a year. We couldnt be happier with our experience. We had to switch days in the middle of the year and we encountered no problems whatsoever. The instructors are fabulous and so nice and very gentle and sweet to the little ones. One of the perks of this studio is that if you miss a week or if there is a holiday you can make up your class anytime. I have never run into that at any other activity my daughter attends. Michelle the owner was her instructor at one point and she is just the cats pajamas. We met while our children were in the Nicu and she has been so kind and generous to us even though she has gone through so much herself this last year. I would highly highly highly recommend this dance studio to anyone, it truly is outstanding!!!!!!! more

great experience for the whole family 5/24/2011

My daughter has been dancing at Center Stage for 6 years. She is a shy girl and tends to be hard on herself. The teachers and staff at Center Stage have been so positive and kind that her love for dance has grown. She was on the company team this year, at first she was nervous and then it became her favorite class. Ms. Brdget has given a lot of support and guidance, she has a knack of critiquing without the child feeling bad. I know not all studios is a great fit for everyone, but this has been an awesome fit for us. My daughter is learning dance in a fun and loving way but expecations from her are increasing in a positive and loving way. My son feels so comfortable there that he wanted to take a class as well. this is because the staff takes the time to get to know him and talk to him as well. This is a fun loving studio with a great group of women running the show behind an outstanding owner. She might not be there all the time, since her personal life as a young mom with pre-mature twins keep her busy, but she is always available by e-mail and is very good at updating information that concerns the studio. We are making good memories and I would recommond thsi studio to anyone who is looking for a nuturing dance studio that also lets the kids have fun! more

From the mom of a dancer at Center Stage 5/24/2011

My 4 year old and 7 year old dance at Center Stage and they both really enjoy the classes they take. The teachers are all wonderful. We have been here for 4 years, and have never had a bad experience only great memories and good friends.\r \r Thanks for 4 great years to the team of great people at Center Stage, we are looking forward to many more. more

Response from a teacher 5/24/2011

First, please keep in mind that you don't know all the underlying circumstances of each individual teacher's personal life that may influence them to change their priorities. These are decisions made by each teacher, each having very different personal situations, and we respect their decisions. This has nothing to do with Michelle, nor have they been due to being unhappy with the studio. Many have been due to continuing school, beginning their own families, and/or moving - to where the commute to the studio simply isn't reasonable.\r \r Second, I take offense to the comment regarding the tap/jazz teacher - as that would be me. I understand that you may be upset with the way that you think the studio is being run, but don't bash the teachers. I have been teaching at Center Stage for over 3 years, my picture is hanging in the studio, and I have had over 25 years of dance experience - including my BFA in Dancing & Choreography from UT Austin, and dancing with Tapestry Dance Company. I don't claim to be the most astounding dancer, but I do have the knowledge and have the passion to share with my students. And the most important element of dance that we continuously try to remind the students of is that dance should be fun, regardless of their ability.\r \r I'll also add that I'm rarely ever late to start teaching my classes, and if by some chance I am, I always hold the students late to insure that they get the full hour that the parents have paid for. Now this may not be how all of the teachers run their classes, but as a dancer coming from so many years of experience, I remember what it was like to have my teachers do that in my classes, so I refuse to let it happen with my students.\r \r I understand that our studio may not be a perfect fit for every family but I ask that you please take a moment to step back, take a breath, and think before write your critique. We don't ask anyone to write or say anything they don't believe to be true. But I also don't think it's necessary to write with so many emotions and to say things that could be harmful to more people that you realize.\r more

Center Stage 5/23/2011

To have some cranky old lady reflect an opinion that is biased and totally untrue is heartbreaking! Michelle is an amazing dancer, studio owner and mother! Above all she has the strength and determination to go above and beyond in all her endeavors. Michelle and her family have had a hard row to hoe this past year and have soared well above any expectations! I've had my children in enough dance studios to know that if you do not like the place...LEAVE! You and the studio will be much better off. Your attitude is wasting the time and talent of those that want to enjoy the experience of teaching a CHILD a new talent and love for dance. Keep up the GREAT work Michelle!! more

Center Stage is great! 5/23/2011

I read a few of the negative comments and had to open an account. \r \r The studio is clean. The waiting room is not huge, but it certainly works to wait. They have a TV for the little ones, and some items to purchase. I really like the consignment b/c it keeps the cost down for leotards and shoes. \r \r We have had the same instructors the entire year, and could not be happier. They are all sweet and caring, and seem to know what they are doing. \r \r My daughter really enjoys attending the weekly classes, and I really enjoy watching her preform.\r \r The rates are very reasonable and they don't overcharge you. The fees were all shown to me at the beginning of the year, and none of them have changed.\r \r I have met Michelle, and she is as nice as one could be. I have seen her at the studio many times, and she is not my daughters teacher. I have also seen photos of her cute babies. How awful of someone to talk like that about the ordeal her family went through last year. (Shame on you!)\r \r Overall, I would rate this as an A+ establishment. more

Best Studio in Cedar Park 5/20/2011

I love this studio and it breaks my heart that there is one person out there so dedicated to writing a bad review. Surely this person, never discussed his/her unhappiness with Michelle because she would do anything for anyone that goes to that studio. Last year she almost lost her twin babies who were born at 24 weeks, so my guess is this person was caught in the middle of a very stressful time for her and the studio b/c it did affect everyone...just like it would if it were your family.\r \r My daughter has been taking dance from Ms.Michelle since the studio opened and we could not be happier...we have had so many great teachers it is hard to count. The studio is more than just a place to learn dance though...it is a family.\r \r I know several people who have left to try other places and they all tell me how the regret it and many have returned.\r \r This year my daughter competed and won several overall awards, which clearly goes to the quality of instruction.\r \r You could not choose a place that was more affordable, positive, and caring for your child to learn the basic or advanced dance styles...I LOVE IT!!! more

Dancing Mom 5/20/2011

My daughter has danced at Center Stage for 4 years now. She is on their competition team, and I am so proud of her accomplishments. They always do very well at competition. She has become a confident young lady with the help of all of her wonderful teachers at Center Stage. We love Center Stage. The staff is always friendly and helpful as well as the owner.\r \r Side note to junstinnn - The kind of owner who you say ""is never there"" is an owner who had twins 4 months early and had to go to the hospital to see them every day. They were in the hospital for 5 months. Have some heart! more

We Love Center Stage!! 5/16/2011

My daughter has been dancing there for the past four years....since she was two years old. In fact, the teacher she had for her first two years is still there and choreographed her first solo this year. My daughter loves all her teachers. The owner has been wonderful to work with; she truly cares for her students. We feel the cost is very reasonable. My daughter has been on their competition team for the past two years, and we have no complaints. The girls have done exceptional in each of their competitions! Over the years at Center Stage, we have watched our daughter grow not only as a dancer, but as a beautiful, young girl filled with passion, grace, and self confidence. The smile on her face when she dances is priceless. Thank you to Center Stage! more

Dancing with Center Stage for 5 years 5/16/2011

My daughter has be going to Center Stage for 5 years now. She absolutely loves it and has learned a lot ranging from ballet, tap, jazz and now, is competing for the studio. She continues to excel due to the experienced teachers and her passion for dance. My daughter has a group of friends she has been dancing with for many years at Center Stage. We love Miss Michelle and her friendly staff. more

a response from the owner 5/15/2011

I am the owner of Center Stage, and I would like to address the negative review we have received (which is the only negative review we have ever received on any review site in the last 7 years since we have opened.) First, all of our teachers have extensive experience. We have had two teachers who have had to quit teaching this year - not every month. One of our teachers accepted a job offer as head dance team director for a school district in Dallas and one teacher got a new job that required more hours. Those teachers were replaced with two new fabulous teachers who one had been classsically trained in ballet, tap, and jazz for 16 years and another teacher who was the head ballet mistress for a ballet company in another state before relocating to the Austin area. If negative reviewer had given these teachers a chance, she would have been delighted with them as all of our other students have been. We have a total of 11 teachers and only 2 are new. Seven of the teachers have been teaching for more than 3-4 years now at Center Stage. \r \r As far as switching rooms, we do that because the different studio floors are designed for specific purposes. In one room, we have a Harlequin Allegro professional semi-sprung floor intended for jazz, ballet, lyrical, etc. In the other room, we have a wood floor covered in professional marley flooring intended for pointe work and tap. In combination classes, we switch rooms to use the appropriate floor for that type of dance. It has nothing to do with air-conditioning. \r \r We do not charge for weeks that you are not in class with the exception of Spring Break week. During that month, you are invited to come to any other class to make up your missed class. We pro-rate the tuition for December and June (short months). In fact, we are one of the only studios in the area to offer that discount. We have never gone up in prices in the middle of the year. Since we have opened seven years ago, we have only increased our prices one time! When you sign up for classes, all the prices for costumes, recital, etc. are clearly listed.\r \r I would like to add that it is true that I have not been at the studio as much as I would like to. Sometimes life throws you curve balls. This past year I gave birth to extremely premature twins at 24 weeks gestation. They spent 5 months in the neo-natal intensive care unit, so much of my time was devoted to being there for them as well as taking care of my 4 year old daughter. Fortunately, I have a wonderful staff and excellent teachers who stepped in. \r \r Last, I am offended to be called rude and snotty. Anyone who knows me would disagree with negative reviewer. When negative reviewer asked for a refund of her tuition, I refunded her money. This shows that you just can't please everyone!\r \r Read all of the other very positive comments on all of the review sites and you will see what Center Stage is all about! more

Awesome Studio 9/29/2010

Center Stage is an awesome studio. We have been going for 6 years. The teachers are knowledgeable about dance and really like teaching kids. There are classes for everyone, from 2 year olds to adults. We wouldn't think of going anywhere else.\r \r I would also like to direct some comments to the negative reviewers. I am probably somewhat biased because I work there, but the place is clean. Michelle makes sure that we keep the toys clean, the barres clean and the floor swept and mopped. We clean the windows several times a day. We answer the phone any time we are there, usually on the first or second ring. If you called and didn't get an answer, then you were calling when the studio was closed.\r \r If there are children that are running around crazy, we try to talk to their parents to get them to watch them, but that's not Michelle's fault if a parent doesn't watch their kids. \r \r My girls have had the same teacher all year and they are great. They have learned so much this year and have blossomed. We have only had one year, out of 6, that we've had two teachers. \r \r Michelle is very easy to talk to and if you have a problem, she will do anything in her power to make it right. \r \r Michelle, we love you and wouldn't g anywhere else. Keep up the good work and thank you for a wonderful experience for my girls. Thank you for getting experienced and pasionate teachers to help girls of all ages and dance training.\r more
