Best

Been in 7 countries visited many famous Clubs and Bars, but this on is the best place in San Francisco! Their event called "My Heart Beats For... " is the best venue. Their barten...

Worst

Really don't bother with this place, unless you are new in town and dont know any better or a bridge and tunneler. It is one of the worst bars in the city and they charge a cover....

Just get there a little later... 10/23/2006

Haha, that last review was funny; I was there on friday and think I remember seeing that guy... It was definetely a different scene than the other times I've been there. I asked a bartender and he said there was some fundraiser going on -- so I'm definetely not gonna knock a nightclub for giving some not-so-trendy nonprofit people a place to have their event. After dinner @ Le Colonial, my friends and I came back and it was the usual Cellar madness: cute, financial district guys and 80's, 80's, 80's on the dancefloor. I would definetely give Cellar another chance -- it always goes OFF around 11:30 or midnight; and pretty much all nightclubs rent out their space during early hours. I've heard that you have to pay close to nothing to have an early event there, probably why so many non-profits pick it. more

oh my! 10/22/2006

so the last person that wrote a review talked about some mickeymouse sweatshirt, and a not-so-great crowd... i'm not sure when they were there.... i was there on friday and had a blast! We started off showing up for a happy hour they had. didn't even realize it was to benefit the local YMCA. the fact that they support local nonprofits - totally awesome! We left around 9:30, it was busy and great music (happy hour prices lasted until 9pm!). went out for dinner and decided we wanted to go back and dance some more. we showed up close to midnight and found out that the cover was ONLY $5! where else in the city can you get in for $5?? (downtown!) again - thumbs up! Scotty fox and MCD rock. i like 80s, but they just rocked the house. and there was plenty of eye candy floating about the room. i must say - the place looks like it does in the pictures on the club, and the people look like the people in the pictures. it's real. the bartenders are down to earth, the place is great. they could work a bit on their air conditioning, but then again, no one's perfect. i rather have a chilled martini with great music and be a bit warm, then have a cool club, with a warm martini and blah music.... just my 2 cents! cellar people - i love you :) Pros: cover, music, atmosphere more

Was I in the same club?? 10/19/2006

Went there on a Friday night to check out the '80s night but was totally disappointed. The music was great but the atmosphere wasn't like the pictures on the website at all nor were the reviews I read. Maybe I went a little too early but the crowd wasn't the typical club crowd but instead felt like I was in a far east country. Some guy had on a Disneyland's Mickey sweatshirt! After some people watching (no eye candy at all) and a couple of drinks, we left. Perhaps it picks up after in the late evening but I didn't want to stay to find out. more

Best Downtown Club, hands down! 9/11/2006

After getting more and more fed up with the mean security, stuck up crowds, and the same overplayed music normally associated with downtown nightclubs, The Cellar stands apart like an oasis. They attract a friendly, energetic crowd that's not going to turn up their noses at fellow dancefloor guests, nor will their staff roll their eyes as they pour your fifth vodka-cran. Their Friday night 80's party, "Flashback" beats all the other 80's parties in town because the DJs play a great blend of hits as well as forgotton, "omigod it's been SOOO long since I've heard this" songs. They always have hip hop in the side room for your friends that can't make it through a night without hearing some Justin Timberlake or Jay-Z. It's pretty much the safest bet downtown if you're showing friends a night on the town -- nothing intimidating about this place and ALWAYS and a crowd pleaser. Pros: Unpretentious, great to take a crowd Cons: Gets so busy you need to get there early! more

Sunday Nights at the Cellar - Can't be missed!!!! 9/2/2006

The music is great Sunday nights, easy going atmosphere. The bartender is awesome and drinks were really reasonable. I highly recommend this as a Sunday night hangout. Great way to get the week kicked off!!!! Pros: Great music and drinks more

80s night 8/7/2006

In response to the last post, the back room was closed on that date for remodelling, and thus the front room was a hybrid of hiphop / 80s etc. The back room is now open again, and completely remodeled. The front room is back to a pure 80s format, and the back room is hip-hop. I suggest you try it one more time. Thank you-----Scotty Fox more

"80's" night... 7/23/2006

A big group of us went on an 80's night when the side room was supposed to be hip hop. There were a couple of 80's songs, but more early 90's, such as Beastie Boys, Sir Mix A Lot and such, which was still cool, but I think we were expecting more typical 80's dance songs. The side room was much smaller than expected and it was the same music being played in there....they brought in some hip hop songs later in the night before closing. So, it was cool, but not what I expected, I just wanted to put out there what I wish others woulda mentioned in their reviews. The "hip hop" room was more of an alcove which couldn't possibly play different music without it getting all mixed in with the main room music. And 80's night is more of an Ecclectic night. Also, alot of people complained about parking in previous reviews, but we showed up around 11:30pm and all of us found street parking right in front or right around the corner. Pros: Atmosphere, no line, lounge and dance areas Cons: no seperate hip hop room, not enough bartenders! more

GOod music 6/28/2006

The place played pretty good music, had pretty decent drinks, and ample room on the dance floor to dance, but I don't know...there was just something about it that didn't work for me. Too hot maybe..I don't know, but I never went back again. Pros: Music, a lot of room Cons: There are some, just can't put my finger on it! more

Best Bottle Service Offer in town! 3/28/2006

For my friend's birthday, we wanted to reserve a table at a fun club in the city. we called around, and found out that the cellar is the only club that DOESN'T limit the bottle to only 4 people! There were 15 in our group, and everywhere else, they wanted us to buy 4 bottles to get a table together! We called the cellar and they said we only needed to reserve 1! So we showed up and had A BLAST! The DJs were awesome, it was a cold and rainy saturday night, but the girl at coatcheck was totally sweet and we got our table at no time! The DJs were spinning dance and hip hop - AWESOME!. we'll be back soon! :) Pros: bottle service prices, music Cons: no parking more

great untill... 3/4/2006

how much I should tip the bar tender. They did a very good job, but I feel that the tip are my choice. I worked the service industry also...so, when I don't get tip I don't say a thing. Maybe I was too drunk to tip because the drink were so good strong... Pros: Crowd Cons: Parking more

Every time I go here I have the best time! The bartenders are a lot of fun, especially Sylvia, and the drinks are great. I always ended up staying later than planned because I have so much fun there. Fridays are the best night because they have 80's in one room and hip hop in the other room. You can just keep switching rooms when you feel like something different. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Prices more

Great 80's - Friday nights 1/29/2006

I celebrated my birthday here last Friday and had a great time! The 80's music was fantastic and the crowd was very good looking. They also put all my friends on their guestlist. I will be back again on Fridays for their 80's party! Pros: crowd, service, trendy more

Great 80's Party - Friday 1/29/2006

I was recently at The Cellar on a Friday night. The night started off on the right foot cuz the door staff was friendly with a hot chick dealing with the guest list. The drinks were strong and the bartenders were quick and friendly. The music was pumpin and the crowd was loving it. The DJ even took requiests. The crowd was hot ahd approachable. We will be back for sure. Pros: trendy, crowd, value more

Love the 80's! Great drinks 1/29/2006

Always love partying here. The quality of the drinks are good compared to a LOT of other places and at a good price. Nothing is worst than going clubbing and being served by a bartender who makes crappy drinks. This place has a GREAT bar with bartenders who know how to mix/make drinks. Also had a very good looking crowd! Pros: Drinks, crowd, trendy more

I was at the cellar last Friday night for a friends birthday party and had a blast! First of all, they have an unlimited guest list, which means all 34 of us got in for free as long as we had our names on the list and were there before 11pm. We took over the area around the pool table which was fun because we could watch the game as well as the dancefloor. On Fridays they spin 80s. I love Scotty Fox on KMEL and I had NO IDEA he spins there every weekend wow how cool! Awesome music. The place isnt pretentious like other spots in the city, and a friend I was with said it look a lot bigger and nicer than what it was a couple of years ago. Were actually thinking we might go there for new years! Pros: easy guest list, music, bartenders Cons: no smoking patio more

Amateur Night! 11/25/2005

I've been to this place a couple of times and it was trash. The crowd was rude, young and completely immature. The last time I went, a group of girls, followed me around trying to compete on the dance floor. Why? I really don't care. The DJ was not good enough to inspire me to dance, so perhaps they thought I was an easy target. Overall, it took too long to get a drink. There was little room to lounge. It was unnecessarily hot and the music was garbage. I would not recommend this place to anyone with a moderate amount of class or creativity. Pros: served alcohol, 2 rooms of music, promising design Cons: crowd is boring, bad music, little parking more

Place makes you want to keep coming back 11/3/2005

So last friday me and a couple of friends decided to cath happy hour at The Cellar.. Dirinks were so good.. cant beat the prices... Bartender was nice and friendly.... had such a good time.. we are planning to go back today after work. Pros: Value, Atmosphere, Decor Cons: Parking more

Had a blast at The Cellar 10/19/2005

A friend and I were in SF for the weekend and went to The Cellar as it was only a block from our hotel and they had 80's night on Fridays. We got there before the cover charge and found a seat at the bar. The music was awesome, 80's all night on the far side of the club (not pool table side). Lots of people dancing and having fun. There were all types of people here. Anyone, literally, could have fun here. Lots of hot guys to check out as well. Never a dull moment at this bar. The bartenders were great and poured very good drinks. They'll create a brand new drink for you right there on the spot, ask for Sylvia! I would definitely go here again on 80's night in a heartbeat. Pros: Great music on Friday, No cover before 10, All types of people Cons: Can't think of any more

totally awesome! 8/29/2005

Seriously!!! Its been a couple of years since Ive been to the cellar. Used to be my favorite little neighborhood bar, cant really call it that anymore!! The rooms are more spacious, they have really awesome lights, the bar itself looks awesome the way they have all the bottles lit up, and its pretty impressive how they have 2 rooms right next to each other, and the sound doesnt travel from room to room. The bartenders are some of the nice bartenders Ive ever come across. Regardless of how crowded it is, theyll always smile, answer questions, recommend drinks and even mix up a surprise if you ask for it. I just love this place! I cant believe its been so long since Ive been here! Am definitely coming back! more
