nice atmosphere, tasty goodness 3/12/2010

myself and some colleagues are in town for a convention, went in for the lunch buffet on monday, and were so pleased, we came back for dinner and huka the next night. Our server was attentive, the food was flavorful, and they give you so much to eat, you can barely get to dessert (which was also delicious). The only complaint was our huka- although it tasted great, it took them at least 20 minutes to bring it out after we ordered it. But all in all, one of the better middle-eastern places I've eaten. Pros: best chicken chawarma on earth, knowledgeable staff, Cons: can be hard to get a table on weekends more

The Best Falafel I Ever Had 1/8/2010

The owners are from Lebanon, one of whom is one of the chefs, the other chef is from Morocco. The food IS authentic, it IS delicious. It's the best baba, hummus, and falafel I've ever had. I would eat there every day if I lived there. Pros: Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere, delicious food more

Best in Utah, True authentic cooking! 3/28/2009

I decided to try the Cedars of Lebanon a few weekends ago while my whole family was in town. Our group was about 13 people all of us being Lebanese, but living in other countries as well. Last time my Family was here visiting we went to Mazza and were so Disipointed, I was embarresed to have taken my family there. The food was plain out bad, and Not authentic like they claim.\r \r We tried cedars and the food was just like it was back home. The atmosphere was very nice and reminded me of Lebanon. We had 13 different dishes and we all Loved each one! We were so full after like we should be the traditional way. I Highly Recommend Cedars of Lebanon a real Lebanese experience, Not a Fake middle eastern Restaurant that tires to pass off Garbage to the unknowing public as Lebanese Food!!!( MAZZA) Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere. You Get the Most for your Money Cons: Very busy on weekends! Recommend getting there early! more

Good food but we felt duped! 3/22/2009

In these tough economic times, we bought an entertainment book in order to be able to go out to eat more often on a budget. We had a coupon for Cedars of Lebanon which stated it was buy one dinner entree, get one free with a value up to $12.00. Under the coupon is a sample menu which lists dishes like Pastilla at $12.95. We understand this book came out 4 months ago and prices can be a little different, however we were surprised to find the same Pastilla dish listed on the menu for $18.95. We did try the food and the food was very good, however we wanted to advise that when all was said and done, this ""buy one dinner entree, get one free,"" coupon only covered the tip! Pros: Food and Belly Dancing were good Cons: We felt duped. more

Good, but not as authentic as I hoped! 3/9/2009

My boyfriend and I were skiing in Utah and made it a point to visit this place on our way back to the airport. I am Lebanese and lived in Lebanon my whole teenage years. Of course I love the food and always crave a homemade meal. I didn't think the food here was as authentic as I hoped it to be. I got the chicken shawarma, which was very flavorful, but again not authentic. Chicken, garlic sauce, and rice flavors were absolutely delicious, but adding the green beans, carrots, and peas took away quite a bit from the flavor of the dish. However, It made it look really colorful, so I get the need for the presentation. Pita bread was too thick for what I am used to eating. Would recommend a dip to go along, if it's going to be served at first. Hummus was ok ? no garlic or lemon juice flavor. Pita bread was too thick for what I am used to eating. I would have also like to have seen more of Lebanon beauty on the walls. more

Best Middle Eastern Food in SLC and anywhere else 5/17/2008

These guys are friends so I am a little biased, but let me tell you if you ever eat at Cedar's on a good night, when they have some of their best belly dancers, you will become friends as well. This is a lot more than just going out to dinner. It is a standing party every weekend. I love these guys and all they do to bring diversity to Zion.\r \r You can't lose, just go and have fun. Pros: You will feel like you are on vacation Cons: You will eventually have to leave. more

Highly Recommend! 5/15/2008

AMAZING FOOD!! BEST Middle Eastern place in UTAH! 5/15/2008

I first would have to Strongly DISAGREE with the last 2 comments! I am a Chef and teacher of a Culonary ARTS School in Reno, specialing in Middle Eastern Cuisine. I had been hearing about the Cedars Of Lebanon, and when visited Utah made a Special point to visit the Cedars. Their were four of us and we tried several meals and shared to try each. one of them. We all thought that the food Spectacular and the spices were most definatly Perfected!! I HIGHLY reccomend this Place to any persons who are wishing to have Exceptional and Very TRADITIONAL Tasting Food! I Must say their was absolutley not a Single fault that I saw in the Restaurants Food or services! I recommend you Meet the Owners they are Very Very nice people and definatly take care of their customers!! Pros: Spectacular Food, Great Service, Great atmosphere Cons: At Times TOO Crowded more

avoid this place! 4/17/2008

I would definately have to say that my experience at the cedars of lebanon was mediocre at best.\r The belly dancer was fabulous, the food ...was pretty good, i liked the pastilla. How ever, it took me TWO HOURS to receive my meal, the restaurant owner treated us badly, refused to compensate for the unacceptable wait time, and then proceded to over charge my family. \r I personally would not recommend this restaurant as a member of the Hasna family, due to their total lack of customer service.\r i would how ever recommend a lovely little place called Cafe Med, need 400 E and 3300 So.\r thank you\r more

not authentic lebanese recipes 2/22/2008

I took a Lebanese friend here when he come to visit Salt Lake and he was very disappointed that they claimed to serve menu items from Lebanon when the recipes are not authentic Lebanese recipes. I myself have tasted a lot of Lebanese food and also formed this opinion. On my last visit I decided to try the Moussaka. I guess I am used to the Greek version of this recipe but I threw away most of my dinner because I didn't like it. Even the Pita bread was a disappointment. \r \r The belly dancing is a fun experience but sorry.. we just haven?t been happy with the food here. more

The food was EXCELLANT 12/6/2007

My sister and I went for the first time and really enjoyed the food and service. The chicken tagine and beef kabobs were exquisite. The dinner prices were a bit high but well worth it. We did see the belly dancer but we were too busy enjoying our meal to really pay attention. I will definitely go again and recommend it. more

Disappointing 5/1/2007

A group of us thought it would be a fun and interesting experience. None of us had been there before. We were there for about 2 hours and the belly dancer only came out twice. The rest of the time she sat at a table with some friends. \r \r The food was decent, but not for the price. I expected more from a $20 plate. Pros: knowledgable and helpful server Cons: overpriced food; minimal belly dancing more

Cedars is an experience to remember! 4/12/2007

Cedars is totally unassuming from the outside, but when you step in, you are enveloped in an exotic atmosphere replete with beautiful rugs, low tables, middle eastern music, and delicious aromas from the kitchen. Marlene, the proprietress, is an extremely gracious and welcoming hostess, and a friendly ambassador for all things Lebanese. Her recommendations for dinner for two (nice variety of flavors and textures) and a Lebanese wine (who knew?) were spot on with my husband and I. We walked in without reservations on a Saturday night and were mesmerized by the fire-eating belly dancer. (We only wish our fellow patrons had the class not to tuck dollar bills into her skirt waistband.) After dinner, the pillows and rugs on the low banquette made for perfect reclining. Cedars is more than a dinner out. It's a cultural experience. Thank you, Marlene! We will be back. Pros: Marlene is an outstanding hostess, and obviously takes pride in her establishment. Cons: Smoky air from grilling in Kitchen more

BEST FOOD BY FAR FOR MIDDLE EASTERN CUISINE! 3/25/2007

I went there with my two kids under the age of 4 and they enjoyed the food, the service, and the waiters were really good to keep them happy. Service was very prompt, courteous, and attentive. They took good care of us while we were there. The food was . . . . .by far the best that I have had in a long time. I have been to other middle eastern restaurants in the area and they didn't compare to what we received at Cedars. The food was excellent and you can tell that it was original. Very delicious!! Also the owner came out later in the evening and greeted us to make sure that everything was up to par, which of course was. Pros: family friendly, great atmosphere, excellent food, great service Cons: none that I can think of. more

Fabulous Mediteranian, every time is a treat. 12/24/2006

Lamb tagine is to die for!!!! A previous review talked about having expected it to be curry dish. The menu does say that the lamb is marinated in curry. However, tagine dishes are not usually curry flavored and that is certainly not the case with this dish. Lamb tagine is usually one of two types, with fruits (dates, raisins, plumbs etc) or without. This is a spectacular non fruit version. With the right mix of spice and flavor, there is a hint of spice from the curry but it's very subtle. The lamb is always extremely tender. I can't say enough about this dish. Their babaganoush is also delicious. \r \r If you order the lamb tagine not expecting curry, I am sure you will love it as much as I do.\r \r Cedars also has a nice quaint atmosphere that feels a little like another world, especially when the belly dancers show up. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: Speed more

Amazing Food 2/6/2005

If you are looking for your entire daily calorie count via an artery clogging hamburger this place is not for you. If you are in the mood to try something new and different, you will be pleasantly suprised as your tastebuds experience the entire spectrum of flavors offered here. Not much for new things? Order any of the kebabs, you can't go wrong there. Want something truly amazing that you'd kill to get the recipe for? Order the chicken pastilla. I'm not personally very fond of any of the appetizers, but I don't think there is a single main dish I don't enjoy here. One of the best kept secrets when it comes to non-standard fare restaurants in salt lake. Pros: Food, Ambiance Cons: expensive more

Excellent Service 4/19/2004

I am a big fan of Ethnic and Middle Eastern food, so I HAD to try Cedars. The service was excellent, and I would DEFINITELY recommend the Chicken Pastilla. It is absolutely fabulous. The dissapointment came from the Lamb Tagine (curry). It was not very spicey at all and tasted more like salt than anything else. The lamb was very tender, but the salt made it close to unedible. The atmosphere was great and I would go back...but not for the curry. more

Exotic, delicious, & healthy 10/25/2002

I have had the opportunity to eat at Cedars on several occasions for lunch and dinner. The food is always delicious and the menu has an excellent variety of healthy, low-fat entrees and appetizers. The service is top notch and the belly dancers provide excellent entertainment. If you are tired of the ordinary and looking for something exotic in downtown SLC, try lunch or dinner in Cedars. They also have a Moraccan room which provides a great ambiance as you sample the excellent middle eastern cuisine. P.S. They also have a lunch buffet where you can sample the wonderful flavors the resturaunt offers. more
