The location, owner, and staff where on the money I really enjoyed my stay. 5/4/2011

My stay was exceptional. At first I was unfamiliar with the convenience of this hotel being next to cafe cordozo and central to all night life and across from the beach. The evening bar hours were above and beyond what I have experienced 2 for 1 drinks along with cafe dinning out in front of the hotel great for people watching. really too much to speak about. If you want more bang for your buck this place is it. The owner is really cool and gets about and around the best night clubs pal up with him (if you can) he is very well known in the south beach scene. I frequent the south beach scene quite often and will book with the cavalier hotel every time. I highly recomend it. Price for accomodations is hands down the best you'll get. more

what a gem 5/2/2011

the cavalier hotel is really a gem in the heart of south beach. I was reading the reviews and was really hesitant on booking a room here but the price was tooo good ( you feel me).the standard rooms are small but very hip and i was really feeling the decor. more

location, location, and price 4/26/2011

I stayed here for the winter music conference in March last year, and my boyfriend and I would definately stay here again. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't book this hotel to stay in it and critic it's every fault, but just a place to crash after hitting up the South Beach nightlife all night. Couldn't beat the loaction, and the price, for that time of year. more

The best budget hotel in south beach I've found yet. 4/21/2011

Yes it smells damp when you first arrive as do most Hotels in sobe. I would describe the lobby/bar as quirky it doesnt resemble any of the pictures. Its more of a beach bar effect with a large bar plasma screens and bar stools. Drinks are reasonable (for sobe) and the food was above average. The crabs and sea food were first class. My room was plenty big enough and the efficiant cleaning lady earned herself a decent tip. Fair sized with primitive air con. We didnt have any of the plush linen in the photos but was clean and comfortable. The deco was the usual sobe poor effort. I'm convinced that Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles work as painters and decorators in sobe during the winter. The beach is literally just accross the street and the location was superb for WMC. Everything was in walking distance. I rate this hotel for its cleanliness, location, good bar and restaraunt. Oh it was cheap too. I'll probably use the Cavalier again next year. more

Nice place - great location 4/18/2011

This hotel is nice - small, but clean and well-managed, with a trendy art-deco look, and in an excellent location on Ocean Drive - just a few hundred yards from the beach. more

loved the cavalier 4/14/2011

I recently stayed @ the Cavalier for 5 nights and totally enjoyed it. I loved the fact that the hotel was conveniently located in the heart of south beach, and that i could wake up early in the morning and go for a jog on the beach right across from the hotel. The rooms range fromyour standard guest rooms to their deluxe ocean front suites. My husband and i stayed in the deluxe oceanfront which included a separate living room area, fridge, coffeemaker, cable, music system.Breakfast was also included ,as well as a complimentary happy hour open bar with hor'doerves. This hotel definitely has alot to offer and the rates were very economical. more

Great hotel if you're looking for staying where all the fun is 4/13/2011

We stayed at the Cavalier because we wanted a decent hotel on the main drag. And that's exactly what we got. The rooms are extremely small and the bathroom fixture might look old, but everything is clean, the staff was nice and helpful and it's right where the action is. Just across the beach, on the main drag. Just put on your best clothes and head out of the door. You're there. Cavalier looks like your old European hotel: art-deco furniture and a funky old elevator that might scare some but that it only adds to the whole flair. News Cafe is close by (excellent breakfast.) We were traveling with our then five-month old baby so we asked for a room away from the ocean and the street which we got. They also provide baby-sitting for an extra cost, but we ended up not using the service. Being on the main street, my husband and I just took turns going out and looking at the street action at night. Parking is extra and is not easy to find parking around. But hey, it's South Beach. If it were easy, we'd all be living there. more

The Cavalier was the perfect place to experience South Beach! 4/13/2011

From the moment we arrived at the Cavalier, we were treated like we were family! My friends and I enjoyed the sidewalk shopping and beach right across the street. The food at the hotel was amazing! I loved all the seafood. I would definitely go back and stay at the Cavalier next time I visit South Beach. more

Great Location, Great Staff, Great Price 4/11/2011

For the money, I truly do not think this hotel can be beat. For a fantastic location right on Ocean Drive, in arguably the best hotel location on the entire strip, at a price that is consistently (I booked through the hotel directly) below $100, this hotel deserves 4 stars for its value. The rooms are large (booked a room with 2 double beds), which had a VERY partial view of the ocean (unless you upgrade to the suites which only have king sized-beds, your view will primarily be of hotels on either side of you). Room was clean, as was the bathroom- definitely a little run-down and not for the Paris Hilton/need to be pampered types, but still clean and very serviceable. And don't forget that this is a BEACHSIDE hotel of the art-deco period- 60 plus years of sand and salt air are inevitable. TV was small, no remote- but you are in south beach- turn off the TV. Stayed here 4 nights, staff were always friendly and helpful. did a lot of research before booking, and would book the Cavalier again and again after seeing locations and quality of the other options. more

couldn't be more satisfied 4/8/2011

I just returned from a weeks stay at the Cavalier and returned very pleased with this hotel. Granted, I am a 19 year old, college student who went with nine other college students, but we do not have low standards. We definitely got what we paid for plus more. The location of this hotel was PERFECT-right in the heart of South Beach. The rooms were small but not too small, and they came with all the necessities (tv, clean room service, bathroom, shower, cd player, etc.) The owner of the hotel was always around the hotel, either at the bar or the restaurant. He was very friendly and was always willing to talk. Upon check-in we ran into one difficulty. The staff seemed to have lost our reservations, and since they spoke poor English it was hard to communicate with them. Forturnately after working with them for about 20 minutes we got everything figured out. Overall we were all very happy with this hotel. Considering the price we paid and the location and services we received, I cannot imagine getting a better deal. I definitely recommend it to everyone! more

I will be back! 4/6/2011

I absolutely loved my stay at Hotel Cavalier. The location is wonderful, and the atmosphere is enchanting. The art deco decor and the smell of incense gave me a cozy, at home feeling. The staff was great and the rooms were very accomodating. I actually forgot my toothpaste and was astonished when I went to the bathroom and found a sample waiting there for me! I will be back! I still have several delicious items I need to try out on the Lotus menu more

Good Value 4/4/2011

Great, if old, hotel in South Beach, a couple blocks from Versace's mansion. No frills, but very reasonably priced (about $80 online in December) and relatively clean. Shower a bit cramped for a large person, small and low on water pressure. Nice (read, quaint, not luxe) bar area in lobby and the typical gimme-all-you-got-in-your-wallet South Beach restaurant spilling out onto the sidewalk of Ocean Drive. Stick to happy hour period, 4-7, for food and drink specials within economic reason, or haul in your own from elswhere. There is a modest continental breakfast each morning. Parking is non-existent, for the most part, vis a vis the size of the typical crown at any time. You will find a valet service outside the hotel - all along Ocean Drive in fact - which is about the only option, and it's $25 per day for unlimited parking including bringing your car to and from your hotel as needed. Beach is directly across the street. There are many interesting opportunities for people watching and exotic car watching, and plenty of places to load up on souvenirs nearby. Great location. You save on the modest facilities, and pay it up in parking, food, and otherwise due to the popularity of the area. Overall it's an interesting, pleasant experience, if you don't demand 4 star accommodations. more

Great Location 4/1/2011

I'm really glad we picked this hotel because it is directly across the street from the beach, and perfectly situated on the South Beach art deco strip that is Ocean Drive. Our room was what we wanted: a bare minimum room on the beach. The beds were cheap, there was no wall art (though lots or mirrors and freshly painted walls) and the window shades were a little messed up, but the central air-conditioning and ceiling fan worked fine, there was a good sized closet with a light and safe, and the bathroom was renovated (cheaply) and clean. more

a fun throwback 3/29/2011

The Cavalier is a funky decco hotel perfectly located on a lively but not mental strip of Ocean Drive, right on the best part of the beach and next door to Gloria Estevan's hotel The Cardoza. My wife and I, both in our forties, thought the hotel had a hip, hole in the wall quality we found very romantic. There is no actual lobby. Guests enter through a restaurant / bar called CJ's Crab Shack. The food is pretty good, and the place is full of hipsters all night long. The front desk is tucked in a corner by the bar. Next to the desk is a vintage 3 passenger elevator, complete with a hinged door and one of those scissor cages. Every time I took the elevator I felt like I was in a Cagney movie. We had a room on the third at the very back of the hotel so it was pretty quiet, although like all decco hotels the walls are thin. The bedding was decent, the bed was good, and the tile floor looked new. There was a walk in closet with open shelves, but no storage otherwise. The bathroom was small and a little run down looking, but everything worked and there was lots of hot water. Central ac worked well, and the temp was in the mid 80's while we were there. I found the hotel staff excellent. The front desk crew were polite and helpful on the phone, and absolutely charming in person. The maid was also first rate. We tracked sand all over every day, and every afternoon the room was made spotless again. If you are expecting Holiday Inn, you'll probably hate the Cavalier, and South Beach for that matter. But anyone looking for a cool place to crash after a day in the surf and a night in the lounge will love it. And the price can't be beat. more

loved the Cavalier 3/22/2011

This is my second visit this year to the cavalier. I never wrote a review before. The staff asked me when I congratulated them on the changes to please write a small comment on trip advisor. I was compelled to write more than a small comment, and tell all of you, the incredible changes that this hotel has gone through. The Lobby is completely redone in more lively colors and with all new furniture and fixtures. The addition of the Bar and the Restaurant gave it such a classy quaint look. The Air conditioning according to the front desk clerk had been upgraded and it kept my room very nice and cold ( I had to reset the thermostat up after an hour, as the room started to really get cold). I am very pleased with the changes, and when I checked in they advised me that the hairdryers, Irons and Ironing boards could be checked out at the front desk upon request. The food at the Restaurant was out of this world. This is European type Restaurant, with lots of class and large servings. This is definetely a changed hotel. The renovations they did are just fantastic. If you stayed there before, try it again, it is much much better. I will return to this hotel. more

I am from Boston and my friend and I decided to take a quick trip to Miami last minute. We came across a great deal flight and hotel $313.00 so we booked it. Before we went we read the reviews and they were not that good. After our trip and experience at the cavalier I would have to say; most were completely inaccurate. The Cavalier is in the best location you could possibly ask for...across the street from beach and in walking distance of everything. I stay in four in five star hotels most of the time and I am being honest when saying that the Cavaliers staff were the best i have ever come across. They were so helpful, friendly and went above and beyond. I can not recommend this hotel enough. I would definitely return without a doubt. more

Fantastic hotel - loved it 3/16/2011

The Staff was very friendly the rooms were Great I stayed in room 305 and although my view was of another building next to us it was a good room. The AC was cold at first but then we discovered we could adjust it to the temperature we wanted and after that we enjoyed our 4 day stay. The restuarant has out of this world food and just like the rate at the hotel for the room, the cost of the food was also the most affordable on Ocean Drive. THe waitress was excellent. We highly recommend this hotel. It is an art deco historical hotel. we found out that it was built in 1936. The rooms were very clean the staff friendly. We did not exoperience any problems and at night we never heard anyone else. So if you are looking for an affordable hotel room this is the place. Plus the food and drinks are great. Yes we will stay here again - By the way the beach is right across the street and almost half the girls were topless. This is the only part my girlfriend did not like. I loved it though. Oh Yes I forgot the wine is on specila 10 dls off any bottle on Monday to Wed. Great deal since they hasd great wines priced from 22 dollars and up we ended up paying 17 dollars for a great Pinot Noir from California. I have seen this bottle for sale at Publix for 12 dollars. So that was a great deal. more

clean cheap and friendly cannot ask for more 3/14/2011

I stayed 4 nights and absolutely had a great stay. After reading some other postings I approached the hotel with trepidadion. But after 10 minutes I knew I had made the right decision. This hotel is very clean, very friendly and a great value. I realize that 99% of satisfied customers never write a posting and that 99% of dissatisfied customerrs do. So I can now write a review that tells you how I saw it. It wa a great stay. The food was excellent. Hey all of Miami Beach adds the waters tip on the bill. they have to. I asked my water about this and he explained that over half the customerrs are from Europe. In Europe no one tips because the tip is pasrt of the bill. so in order to get a tip it has to be automatically included in the bill. It made perfect sense to me because I have traveled to Europe and seen this firwst hand. I can see were some rednicks that have never gone overseas might complain about this. Read the fine print the tip can be adjusted by the water just ask him to do so. The rooms were bigger than I expected, andn we had 2 queen size beds. It was great because there were 4 of us. Everywhere else we checked the max allowed was 2 and most places had 2 double beds not 2 queens. So this was a big plus for us. again the place was very clean and they gave us new sheets and towels every day. That was more than what we needed. The staff was very friendly. The food was better tan average yet the price of the food was very reasonable. I highly recommend this hotel to all of you. more

Location Location 3/11/2011

Location is everything! A stone's throw from the New Cafe and the former Versace mansion. The surrounding hotels are very swanky, this is a little, reasonably priced gem. Nice amenities in the room and a warm, helpful staff. Would definitely go back. more

The Best of SOBE 3/9/2011

Great Location, in the heart of South Beach, Friendly Staff. You'll get more than you pay for. The front desk guy (pablo), is the funniest guy in Miami. more
