Shockingly Bad 7/27/2011

Visiting from out of town and came for dinner on 27 July. The bar itself looks great. Nothing else to recommend it. Dirty table covered in salt and soda, which I had to ask to be cleaned. Food was almost inedible. Onion ring appetizer was as burnt as it was greasy. Steak main course covered in putrid, tasteless sauce. Dishes sat in front of me for 25 minutes after I finished and couldn't get the server's attention to bring check for at least ten minutes. Only 7.30pm but a group of girls on next table were screaming so hard my ears were bleeding, with no attempt to keep them in check. They didn't deserve the 10% tip I left. Hostess reading a book and didn't say goodbye when I (gladly) left. Just horrible. Will never go back. Better off at McDonald's! more

nothing to write home about 4/7/2008

I work near Casey's and decided to head there for lunch for the first time. I was excited because I am a HUGE fish 'n chips and Guinness guy. as we walk down the stairs (co-worker and I), I say to myself: ""self, this place is nice"".. little did i know the aesthetics of the pub itself would be the only positive attribute to the establishment. \r \r we look over the menu as we're seated (i knew what i was getting before i even got there, but looked anyway..), and my co-worker ordered the ""chicken caprese sandwich"", while i got the fish 'n chips. when the food arrived, his chicken sandwich was slightly warm at best, so he returned it to get it reheated. it came back minus a pickle and it was as if they had toasted the bread rather than warm the entire sandwich. he asked for it to be reheated once more and was turned down because the manager ""was not in"". \r \r in conclusion, given the cold chicken sandwich, mediocre fish 'n chips (talk about bad cut of cod), warm Guinness and servers with attitude problems, this place is, for lack of a better term, undesirable. Pros: Guinness, Harp and Smithwick's on tap, and Irish Pub atmoshphere Cons: pretty much everything else more

Great downtown hangout 7/25/2007

Casey's is a great place for a casual night out. The downtown working crowd heads there for after-work drinks, while USC students use it as a late night hangout. They have a jukebox! What more do I have to say! Pros: Good selection, laid-back atmosphere Cons: Limited parking more

A WASTE OF A BEAUTIFUL SPACE 3/6/2007

Where do I start? Casey's had a chance to make it when they hired a new chef who created an inspired menu, but that was back in 2006. Now Casey's has reverted back to terrible, fried bar food with no originality or taste. Our waitress admittedly knew nothing and failed to credit me for my opentable reservation even though I explained to her the opentable system and the no-show issue. Even though the place was empty our waitress was inattentive while the food was bad and the bottled beer was not cold. I called the next day to complain because they still have the old (good) menu listed on their website which I felt was misleading. The person who answered the phone gave me the same excuse the waitress did the night before"" Our website is under construction."" Usually when a website is under construction it says so and it doesn't mislead with flat-out incorrect information about an establishment. I also complained about the fact that our waitress did not give me opentable credit for my reservation. First I was told that Casey's only uses opentable as a secondary means of making reservations (whatever that means) and then he said that his restaurant's short experience with opentable hadn't been good. I defended opentable as a long-time user and promptly complained to opentable about Casey's.\r \r In addition: bathroom is kinda gross, must walk through smoking section to enter bar, they tout their huge music selection but unless you pay for the jukebox they don't plat music at all (3 plays for $2.00 is too expensive); tiny booths; disorganized.\r \r Don't give this bar your time or money. It's a lovely bar, but that's it. Pros: Lovely bar Cons: gross bathroom, bad srevice, terrible menu, warm beer more

Great weekend afternoon hangout 2/21/2007

Casey's is a great place to grab a book, order a beer, and just relax in a dark corner on a Sunday afternoon. During the busier sports seasons the place can be a little loud but if you time it just right in the year you wont be disappointed by the calming bar atmosphere this place can provide. Pros: Great atmosphere, great food, awesome bartenders Cons: Depending on the season it can be quite loud, or too quiet. more

Why take reservation when you are not open!? 12/26/2006

I made a reservation through OpenTable at Casey's hoping to enjoy a nice dinner on Christmas Day. We found out that Casey's was closed after we've spent an hour of driving and searching (partly because of the fact that they were not open, made it even more difficult to find it). It was very frustrating because you all know how most restaurants are closed on the 25th, and the hassle we had to go through to find an open restaurant after this last minute change of plan was extremely unbearable. It was also partyly my fault not to call the restaurant to confirm after I have received email confirmation of my reservation. For this reason I'm giving it a 3 instead of 0. more

Largest selection of Beers, and NFL Sunday TICKET. What else could you want! 9/22/2006

Casey's is a great Irish Pub. It's located right in the center of downtown and feels like a really authentic Irish pub. It probably feels so authentic because it has a long history in downtown. The best thing about Casey's is probably their amazing happy hour. I can get beer and a ton of appetizers for $3 bucks each. They are now open on Sundays too with NFL Sunday ticket so I have kind of made Casey's my own NFL homebase. Pros: Happy Hour, Hot Bartenders, People Cons: when it's packed you get bathroom lines for the guys. more

Cool vibe 9/14/2006

When you think of a downtown Irish bar on a weeknight, you'd probably expect dead. Not here. I was totally surprised. Not only did this place have a great, mixed crowd, live music and cool decor, everyone seemed to be having a great time. I came for a drink, and ended up staying for many drinks. I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends. more

Literally THE best Irish Bar in Los Angeles 9/14/2006

I've been to several Irish Pubs and Bars in LA and some amazing ones out of town. I'm much more into the pub scene than the club scene. When I went here I wasn't sure what to expect. This is a great spot. Rustic wood paneling, lots of character, nicely lit. I challenge anyone to find a better environment as far as Irish Pubs. Nice because it felt cozy and ""neighborhoody"" yet plenty of space. They even have two back rooms that can be reserved for private parties or groups. One for playing poker and another that is like a plush little room to chill out in. Don't be deterred by the fact it's downtown either, it is well worth it. I'll be back and with friends! Pros: Good Happy Hour, Rustic wood paneling, lots of character Cons: Nothing worth mentioning more

The advertising for this place makes no sense. 8/8/2006

The wait staff doesn't really act like they are worried about getting a tip - so much that on slow nights - they will have you waiting for 30 minutes to get a drink or to check on you - I went here several times and always a dissapointment - no one tells you about the happy hour specials and on two different occassions I was charged the regular menu price and the waitress seemed annoyed that I caught it - additionally the food is horrible - and the first time I went there at 645 - the waitress told me that she couldn't give me the happy hour special because the computer's time showed 700pm - funny because one night I was rung up at 900pm and the computer seemed to take the happy hour specials just fine - the only good thing about this place is the music and that's about it - I don't know what everyone is talking about - this place always seems dead. Pros: live band headed by a great southern songstress Cons: everything else more

good downtown watering hole 7/23/2006

I'm updating my review because Casey's no longer has the excellent food I raved about. They're back to basic frozen bar food done pretty well. Service is hit-or-miss. The old-school atmosphere is great for drinkers, though. Beautful bar, cool curtained booths. If this place wants to call itself the best Irish pub in LA, it has one serious shortcoming. It is a rarity in this city to receive a well-poured Guinness, so it is not as easy as an earlier reviewer might think. Lamentably, I have not been served a Guinness poured with any love at Casey's. Pros: atmosphere, happy hour Cons: average service, sad Guinness more

What's everybody buzzing about? 3/14/2006

Not that I would necessarily give the place a bad review, but not sure why I hear this place recommended so much, and why there is such a claim as ""hottest irish bar"". It is pretty cool, but doesn't actually stand out as ""Irish"". It is a cool bar with dark wood furnishings. And I have been there twice and each time received poor service from the waitresses. Food was acceptable, and drinks, well, how hard is it to pour a Guiness. I like the place enough to go back, but love it? Pros: Decor, Underground Cons: Service more

B-Lo - First Saturday of every month 1/31/2006

Heard of Chris Folsom or Arnold Lara? Well these guys are taking over Casey's the first Saturday of every month. Wow!!! What a treat. I was in downtown New Years Eve looking for the Giant event and ended up at Casey's. These guys kept the party going till 5am. Spoke to one of the DJs and he said starting this Saturday January 7th they will be there playing house music all night long till 3am the first Saturday of every month! Outside on the patio will be 80's, disco...you know the commercial stuff. Well with these new DJs there Casey's will definitely be the new HOT SPOT! Check it out...you wont regret it! Pros: Good Music, Good Looking Crowd, Good Drinks Cons: Only open till 3am more

Check out the KAROAKE Happy Hour! 11/5/2005

Best Karaoke in the county...... best Host in the world... this is definitely a great after-work thing! And a great wind-down from work. I can't help but notice how many groups from the corps around there have made names for themselves 'Karaoke' style just by hanging out and singing. This is the funnest place I've known downtown to hang after work. Jaye (the host) is the best, and I never knew how much talent is really out there among us!!! Pros: Great Karaoke, Great Happy Hour, Gorgeous men Cons: Drinks steep more

Awesome After Work Hang Out 11/3/2005

I work in Downtown L.A. and I have tried all the bars and grilles in the neighborhood, but this one i definately my favorite place to go. The atmospere is great. The staff is wonderful, and the food is right on the button. I am very addicted and now all my friends are. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! Pros: Inexpensive, Fun People, Cool Hang Out more

Worthless 6/12/2005

Update 08/10/2007, I have had such poor experiences here I don't want anyone to read my review and think this place is worth the drive. Service has been horrible for about a year, they were open on Sundays and now aren't, and the food is gross. Recently Cedd Moses took over management but he has a lot of work to do. I would start by replacing the staff . My original 2005 review follows: I love Irish pubs and Guinness. Having one downtown in a basement with the cool tin ceiling and the funky bathroom fixtures is just plain heaven for me. Haven't met any unfriendly staff and all the bartenders are very talented. There is a patio outside which you walk through to get to the bar. Past the bar and to the right of the bar is ample seating for lunch or dinner and drinks later in the evening. Too bad they aren't open on Sundays currently. Pros: location Cons: parking, service, food more

great place 1/10/2005

A bar with personality !! a comfortable place to enjoy a few drinks with friends at happy hour, have a bite to eat and then enjoy the nightlife - it's all there !! prices are in line with downtown, bartenders have personality - old school and new school. more

Great Party! 3/17/2004

I just want to congratulate your new team for having a blast last night's St. Patricks celebration. My group (7 of us) had the greatest night. Keep up the good work. Superb! Pros: great service more
