WOW- Capt Toms puts all else to shame 4/6/2009

This place rocks!!!! I have eaten at all kinds of retaurants but only Capt Tom's makes me dream of more- from the Michelado's to THE freshest oysters I have ever had, and I am from the Chesepeake Bay area. The GUMBO is perfection in a bowl. If you crave great seafood at a GREAT price and want to let it all hang out while you dig in, this is the place. Yeah, the boat is lopsided but it all adds to the charms of Tom's. I love the super casual atmosphere and waiting is part of it- arrive hungry and work up an appetite during the 5-10 minutes you have to wait. Enjoy this unique restaurant- I know I did. My husband has been going there for 6 years and has never been dissapointed. I don't think I will ever be either. Everytime I travel to Houston I will be there, I guarantee it! Pros: Best drink, oysters and GUMBO ever Cons: !! more

Great Seafood....the best Micheladas..... 11/27/2007

I can not said that the food is great also the Micheladas, the best in town. But just beware specially if you are planning to visit the one at I-10 and Fry Rd. you can be robbed and I am not talking with the prices, I am talking about your car. My car was broke in on Nov 15, and they stolen my handbag. When I went inside and ask the manager for any security cameras he just told me "" This happen every Friday, and the owner does not want to pay either security or cameras"" so like I said BEWARE, the thiefs are there watching you!!! Pros: Great Food. The best Micheladas Cons: Its a trap, you are eating inside and somebody is robbing you outside. more

Ethnic Diversity Comes Together for Great Gulf Coast Seafood 9/15/2006

This place is a trip! Whenever guests visit from out of town, I try to bring them here. The food is excellent, but very limited: fried shrimp, catfish or frog legs, boiled shrimp, raw oysters, gumbo, hushpuppies or fries. That's it. But man, the flavor is perfect - lightly breaded, lightly fried, very fresh oil, excellent flavor. The freshest oysters in town. I've never seen such ethnic diversity (black, Asian, Hispanic, white, etc.) in such close quarters, and everyone's happy - eating, talking, drinking beer and Micheladas. Watch out for the Michelada - it's a disgusting, irresistable drink made by cracking a raw oyster into a beer mug, squeezing two lime halves into, adding a tablespoon or two of Louisiana hot sauce, then filling to the top with your favorite brand of beer. First time I could barely finish it, but the flavor stuck with me and I went back and tried it again. Still not sure if I like it, but I get it every time. I've watched some big Mexican guys drink one with every dozen or so oysters, and go through five or six of each. And don't expect a table - there are about 20 seats around a center pit where the oysters are shucked and the food served, then about 25 around the edges looking out on the parking lot and FM 1960. And the whole thing's at about a 15 degree angle, so you're always sitting sideways to avoid sliding off your chair. Checkout is the honor system - you tell the cashier what you had, they add up your bill. Fascinating, fun, and incredibly great, simple seafood make for a unique experience and a wonderful meal. Relax and go with the flow, you'll be smiling through the meal and after you're done. Pros: Fresh seafood, great preparation, crazy/fun atmosphere Cons: Stand against the wall to wait for a table, tough to find more then 2-3 seats together more
