Cafe Impromptu could teach other restaurants a few tricks.
This restaurant is actually inside McCaw Hall and appears to be run by Westin (!). My daughter and I attended a PNB performance tonight and had dinner at Cafe Impromptu first. She selected the Chef's special for us to share, which was a braised lamb shank in a merlot sauce. It was SO good - meat very tender, sauce flavorful, and accompanying veggies were perfectly cooked. We also had a side of the caeser salad, also very good.
But, here is the clincher. You order as you enter and pay. Then you take your number to your table and within 2 minutes you get your dinner. I am not exaggerating - it was THAT fast.
Here is another incredibly cool service thing: you can preorder dessert (or whatever) so that it is sitting at your table (look for the number they assign you) all warm and yummy when you come into the cafe during intermission! We had the berry cobbler. It was blueberries, raspberries with a perfectly crunchy sweet topping with a dollop of real whipped cream on top. Did I mention it was warm?
Would I go here again - Absolutely! The prices were fair and service was a very well oiled machine. No stress about being done in time. Delicious food. What else could one ask for?
