Best

Best coffee (au lait) I've found in the South. Beignets are served hot, doughy and not too sweet. The sweetness cones from the generous powdered sugar. So happy I hit to taste ...

Worst

Everyone, and I repeat everyone must go there the first time they visit New Orleans, but this is only because it is a must, not because of the menu or the service. It is historic...

MMMMMM, beignets! 5/30/2003

My husband and I had a great breafast of beignets and cafe au lait here. Everything was delicious and very inexpensive. A little crowded, but I suppose that's the norm. Keepsakes from CDM are cheaper here or at their store across the street than we found them at other souvenir places. A good bet in every way. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food, Good for kids Cons: Crowded, A little messy more

Cafe Du Monde 3/1/2003

I have to say that the Begnets and the CDM coffee were the best! Do not miss them when you are in the Big Easy! RJ more

Ignore the naysayers 2/21/2003

This place is a must. It is loud, brash, crowded and the floors are covered with powdered sugar. That IS Cafe du Monde. Ignore the naysayers. They are the same people who complain about long lines at Disneyland on Labor Day. The coffee and donuts are simply a true NOLA experience. You can either make this a wonderful part of trip to the Big Easy or you can get yourself worked into a frenzy because you weren't given coffee and donuts by tuxedo-clad waiters and served off of bone china. Just go. Go and enjoy. Go many times. You won't regret it. Pros: Coffee, Donuts, People watching Cons: Who cares?, It's Cafe du Monde! more

ne,orlans 1/20/2003

exceptional. service is outstanding, caffine is the best, table not clean, seat and hope Pros: service, value, new orleans Cons: long waits, unkempt tables, clean more

its new orleans 1/19/2003

good food, good service, parking is poor but the problems are worth it. Cons: poor parking more

yummy 1/18/2003

I thought that the coffee was a little bitter. I prefer Starbucks, but other than that I would recommend highly. more

Cafe Mon Dieu 1/13/2003

Crowded, noisy, touristy. Everything some folks could ask for. I found it a bit too hectic but the begnets(sp?) and coffees were indisputably good. Great fare if you're nerves and caloric budget can take it. Pros: begnets & coffees Cons: crowded, noisy, touristy more

NOT A RESTAURANT 1/13/2003

DOUGNUTS AND COFFEE GREAT...MUST TRY WHEN VISITING NEW ORLEANS....BUT IT'S NOT THE BEST OUTDOOR RESTAURANT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT SERVE FOOD. Pros: BEIGES DOUGNUT, 24-HOURS Cons: NO OTHER FOODS more

gotta love it 1/1/2003

Im From new orleans and i think that this cafe should get all it's props and what!! Pros: good food, nice workers, well kept Cons: expensive, crowded more

Morning Call is Best 12/30/2002

Although Morning Call moved outside the French Quarter and may not technically be regarded as a ""New Orleans"" breakfast site, technically, Cafe Du Monde is not a breakfast site, either, unless all you want is coffee and beignets. As a ""breakfast site,"" try the Hummingbird Grill -- grungy, but great breakfasts. Cons: Slow service, They add conf. sugar more

this is new orleans 12/24/2002

take it or leave it - if you love the new orleaans experience you will love cafe du monde - i, for one, cannot imagine a trip to n o without a visit to this spot - it's not for everyone, but neither is n o more

YES! 12/17/2002

I love this place! I feel drawn to the french quarter, and the mighty Mississippi, so the location is prefect for me! more

Too many tourists 12/12/2002

At one time, Cafe duMonde was a great place to go for a true southern treat. Now, the seating is terrible, and since they've expanded to other locations, the quality has dropped. more

If you like fried dough 11/27/2002

The location is wonderful, the service fair, the taste is a matter of opinion ( if you like fried dough with powerded sugar it great) The coffee is good. The choice of menu poor. more

breakfast was never better 11/27/2002

Cafe du Monde is the only place I know where you can go get beignets and coffee or milk. They make the most wonderful beignets ever. more

Doughnut 11/21/2002

The cafe au lait and beignets at Cafe du Monde is a 'must do' activity in New Orleans. And it is really really cheap. definetly one of the highlights for me. Pros: Price, Food + drink quality Cons: Busy, Slightly untidy more

Get out early & enjoy 11/18/2002

I love to wake up early & go out to walk the Quarter, and I love to come to the Cafe for the old favorite, cafe au lait & beignets (did I spell that right???). Tip...Bring wet wipes & do NOT wear black! more

Paper Hats 11/15/2002

This is not a ""true"" restaurant. It only offers beignets and coffee. It is, however, part of the New Orleans charm and atmosphere and a must for everyone who visits the city. I can't say, though, that it's the best breakfast in New Orleans. Pros: service, beignets, atmosphere Cons: coffee, coffee, sticky more

People watching at its finest 11/14/2002

The only reason to go to Cafe du Monde is to watch the people watch you eating. Once Cafe du Monde was a treat with curb side service, but no more. Now it's a tourist hangout with sticky, wet seats and expensive coffee. Best place to go Mardi Gras night when you have to get off the streets - avoid it every other day. Coffee, cocoa, soda or milk and beignets - that's it. Don't go if you are hungry. Pros: Beignets, Bathroom, Place to sit Cons: Crowded, Sticky, Tired more

Dont wear black 10/26/2002

Don't wear black when you eat here because you are sure to be covered in powdered sugar! Yummy Yummy Yummy!!! more
