Authentic french service, but not food. 2/23/2012

I went here a few years ago. Food was acceptable but not great. I lived in France so I'm probably too judgmental. It's what Americans think is good French food and I suppose that's all you can ask for in Edmonds. The service, on the other hand, was horrible (more authentically French than the food! Haha. Just kidding). Here's the story: the waitress forgot to bring the soup. I didn't make a big deal out of it during the meal but when I asked that the charge for the soup be taken off the bill, she argued with me! She insisted that she brought me (and my wife) our soup. Seriously! She was accusing me of lying...for what? A free soup? At an overpriced French Restaurant? Do people do this a lot? Try to scam free soup, I mean. I guess they do at this restaurant. Anyway, I learned later that she was the daughter of the owner so I guess she feels entitled to act this way to customers. Of course I haven't been back since. And I tell everyone I know to avoid the place. Not that I would have gone there very often but there aren't many choices in Edmonds so it would have been nice every once in a while. Just remember if you go: don't order the soup! lol more

Valentines day delight! 2/16/2012

My husband and I recently dined at Cafe De Paris on valentines day for dinner. We arrived with a pleasant surprise of a live guitarist. The music made the night just right, and the decorations were a great addition. The staff was very helpful and friendly and to top everything off the food was spectacular. We enjoyed the rack of lamb and the halibut, the vegetables were cooked to perfection. We plan on coming back. Try it. more

Food fine, service lacking 7/30/2009

Went to Cafe de Paris last night. We really liked the food (the smoked salmon appetizer was fantastic, by the way!). We've spent quite a bit of time in France and were very impressed that the food was very typically French, not ""Americanized"" French. I felt like I was in a French person's home for dinner - quite authentic. The service, however, was just ok. The waitress was not just slow (I can appreciate that as a wonderful French characteristic), the problem was more in her attitude. She was not friendly at all. When new patrons came in to the restaurant, she almost had the air of being bothered by them, rather than appreciative of them coming. I'm sure the Chef/Owner in the kitchen would not have liked what he saw when a crowd of 6 came in and she made setting a table for them seem like a lot of trouble. Normally, I would understand that but there was a large open table next to us already set. Why she didn't seat them there we have no idea. I will certainly return, but hope there is another person serving that day. The place would have seemed a lot ""warmer"" had the waitress not been so icy. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

A charming place for lunch 11/25/2008

\r \r This is a wonderful little restaurant. It is clean, cozy, very\r comfortable seats, nice views of the ferry area from almost all seats. \r \r I found the server very friendly and attentive. If there is sometime's a little wait,it appears to be because this is a two-person run restaurant, and almost everything is made to order.\r \r I was there for lunch today, so we only sampled the lunch menu. The soups and crepes are superb, possibly the best crepes\r in Seattle. I had a beef bourguignon crepe, and the beef was\r tender, succulent and perfectly cooked; the sauce was \r delicious, just spicy enough to enliven the beefy flavor of the gravy. .\r The cream of leek soup was, again, one of the best I've had,\r again, because of that balance between taste polarities.\r \r Desserts leave that balance for the side of richness - my\r companion had a sort of flan - creme brule? - that was\r swimming in syrup and topped with large mound of whipped cream.\r \r This will be one of our ten favorite local restaurants - along\r with T&T for Chinese, Matsu Sushi for Japanese, Chaiyo for\r Thai, the Tacos Guayamas on 196th St in Lynnwood for Mexican,\r and the Caspian Grill in the U District for Persian. more

Not great 5/14/2008

Perhaps we have high expectations of a French restaurant, but we were a little disappointed by the food here and the ambience left a bit to be desired.\r Please note this is not a ""budget"" restaurant as noted by Citysearch (not under $20 a person). Pros: Free parking Cons: Decor, ambience more

""Better than a Paris Restaurant"" 5/10/2008

This review is to counter the one that said the food was mediocre and cafeteria-quality. Pros: Good service, good service, good food Cons: Not a beautiful decor, but nice more

This place is for old people only! 8/13/2007

Moved up north to buy a house and trying to find good places to eat up here. We check this place out for lunch because of the good reviews. I'll make this short and sweet, kinda. We are seated at a table with vinyl tablecloth and cheap plastic flowers. Its dark inside on a sunny day and all the other customers there were senior citizens eating soup and salad. We ordered the pate de maison and the beef bourguignon. The pate was a slice you get off a loaf at the grocery store served with canned peaches and olives. The beef was a pot-roast served with really overcooked noodles. The server was sweet in a very awkward way and I overheard her telling someone else that the chef is scary. Don't go here for french food of any kind. If your grandma wants to go to the waterfront to eat soup and salad this is the place for you. Pros: waterfront Cons: food, decor, menu more

Very poor customer service 3/29/2007

March 2007 My family made reservations at Cafe de Paris, a restaurant family and friends have frequented for years. The female manager provided the worst service we have experienced in years. The food was good however, the female manager/waitress was very rude, provided poor service and complained about how she hurt her leg while distracted trying to take our order. I asked her to have the owner call me. A week later I never received a call finally when I got through to the owner he said he never received the message and did not seem to care about the service even after I tried to explain our experience. He asked me ?what I want him to do about it?. He said he was busy and there was no reason to call me back. With such poor service, I will never visit this restaurant again. Pros: good food Cons: Experienced poor service from mgr & owner more

Classic french food and great service 7/7/2006

The atmosphere was elegant and quiet, pretty romantic in the evening time. The food is excellent, I had the Filet de Beouf Bearnaise which I HIGHLY recommend,. The steak was tender, juicy and flavorful, the bearnaise sauce was delicious and made from scratch. The meal comes with a variety of veggies and potatoes. It wasn't too expensive the dinner prices ranging from $14 to $20. Our service was attentive and friendly, I would highly recommend this restaurant for people who love good food. Oh yes the lamb is also excellent! Pros: Food, live guitar Fri and Sat, service Cons: no complaints here more

The Best! 5/20/2004

The Cafe De Paris has been a favorite of my family for many years! Have never had a bad experience with the food! Always amazing quality, especially the French Onion Soup! Customer service is a bit lacking in some of the hostesses, and Enrique the guitarist is a tad loud (so don't come in the evening if you want a ""quiet"" dinner). It's a very cozy setting, with a great view and wonderful food. Need I say more? Pros: French Onion Soup, Chocolate Mousse, Ambiance Cons: , Hostess more

Waste of time and money 12/23/2002

The food, from the rock-hard butter patties to the limp vegetables to the roadkill entree, was entirely forgettable. The atmosphere is more Denny's than it is Parisian cafe. Service was prompt. more

Misleading 12/22/2002

Cafateria food. With an overall rating of 9.2 on Citysearch I was confident that I had found a sure hit. The french bread was very unexceptional (I love interesting tasty bread). My main entree was veal which was in a very salty mustard sauce. My husband had Duck Ala Orange which came as 2 large drumsticks and tasted and looked more like Peking duck. Our side dishes were over cooked carrots, broccoli, and potatos that were so over cooked they were glutinous. The food overall appeared as if it had come off an assemble line and had been precooked and kept hot ready to be served. I would have been willing to pay $6-$10 for an entree, but their prices were $14-$22 which definitely was not comparable to the food quality. For reference Herb Farm 8.2, Canlis 8.5, Anthony's Homeport 6.7, Cafe De Paris 9.2? Pros: Close to Ferry, Tender snails Cons: Over priced, Cafateria quality, Unauthentic more
