Claim Jumper 1/26/2012

So I went to dinner with a girlfriend to the Claim Jumper,,, My first time ever there ,,,SAD, SAD, SAD.. worst surface ever.. Waited 5 minutes before we even seen our waiter,, then waiter another 10 minutes for my friend to get her drink, Server very unhappy looking,, dinner came relatively fast, but cold, and over cooked noodles, then server couldnt remember what I order so he just typed in the most expensive thing on the menu and tried to get me to pay for it. Then when I pointed it out he seemed irritated. I was also told that the portions were huge,, not this time. I got more food at Cheesecake factory then at this place and for $20 less of a billI wont be going back that is for sure. SAD SAD SAD.. I will not be going back to this place for a meal. What Happened? 8/27/2011

I remember not to long ago that I took my family to the Claim Jumper and was excited to experience the atmospher and food, but that was not the case this time!! First of all the service was terrible, we had to remind the waiter several times for side dished that were suppose to come with our meal. We waited far to long just to get a refill on our sodas and when mine was brought to me it wasn't what I ordered, it was water!!! When an assistant manager came by I explained the issues and he told me that he would get right on it and would also come back to ""make"" things right for us. What a joke, he passed by 10 times and never made eye contact with us again.\r Now to the food! Well my wife and I both paid $20 - $25 per plate and were totally shocked at the small portions, OK! maybe before it was a tad bit too much food, but you walked out feeling good that you got your money's worth and enjoyed it at the same time. Not this time! I couldn't believe it, I got 4 small pieces of beef, 5 shrimp and a small bowl of what was called coleslaw, but it was more like the scraps at the bottom of a sack!!!\r I do have to admit that my son got the pizza again and it was fantastic - just as it was the first time!!! So to be honest, Claim Jumper's pizza is one of the best I have eaten.\r My overall opinion of spending $110......Terrible!! I would have been much better off to go to McDonald's. I had been so impressed in the past with the food and service, but WHAT HAPPENED??? I will not give my money to this restaurant again or at least for a very long time. more

Don't waste your time/money 1/15/2011

Gave restaurant #35 here in Tucson 2 chances to impress me. Husband and I were given a gift card for here for Christmas. It is 40 miles round trip from our home on the NW side. First visit, food was undercooked twice and atmosphere was missing. Service was mediocre. Manager was kind of a jerk with an attitude problem, but comped the meal anyway. Mighty nice of him considering we didn't eat anything!! Still having the gift card to use and thinking we may have just hit the place on an ""off"" night, we opted to give it a 2nd try. Service today was again mediocre. Waitress reached across the table to fill my water glass; stretching her body across my food. NASTY!! The appetizer plater was supposed to be a variety of things, but turned out to be a $20.00 pile of cold/tasteless onion rings. Walked out again very disappointed, only this time, spending almost $40.00!! Don't waste your time or money going here!! more

perfect example of overindulgence, waste (waist) and lack of vision 6/1/2008

This is a chain. Surely you've been there. You haven't? OK you walk into a nice stone foyer. It feels good and the greeter is amicable. Then you are brought into the restaurant for seating, and you go either left or right. To the right is a massive seating area , a decent bar space, and several exits to an outdoor area. To the left is an even far more massive seating area. Room for hundreds of gluttons. It's not that each area doesn't feel private....it's just MASSIVE. There's seating and people everywhere! The booths don't seat the average person, they are made for professional eaters. Kids are visibly uncomfortable in the overly spacious booths (arenas). The food selection is MASSIVE. The portions are MASSIVE. I love food and I like to eat it with gusto. I've been here 4 times and each time, my ""doggie bag"" has lasted me two more meals. What are they doing with the extra portions that people don't eat and leave there? I've seen the recently vacated tables....tons of food left there.\r \r The food is average, really. There is nothing at all special about it. You can get this food anywhere and you could cook it at home if you cared to take the time. While it is true that I have enjoyed the fish and chips there, tasty really, I certainly couldn't finish it and there was 2/3 a plate of fries left over that my heart was pre-palpitating over. The menu is overwhelming, the largest I've seen anywhere and it takes **way too long** to go through when you're also trying to hang out with company or settle the kids. The drinks are overpriced. Also, it occurred to me the other day that I have never had a dessert there. I wonder why?? bloat.\r Pros: lots of food, enough for everyone. Cons: mediocre quality, hangout for American Consumerists more

Worst food ever 5/11/2008

Food is bland, cold and greasy - possibly reheated. The portions are out of perportion, either way to large or too small. The chocolate cake is enough for 6, yet a starter salad is extra on most meals. They claim the steaks are midwestern corn fed beef, but they taste like local beef soaked in a tenderizer. They are definately not the same beef you would get in Ohio or Kansas. I have had much better at Pinacle Peak. Wait staff is untrained or they just dont give a dam. Four of us went on a friday night and the place was 3/4 empty, yet the service took over an hour. The check was over 100.00 without alcohol. No wonder they call this the Claim Jumper, I definatly felt riped off. I don't expect this place will be open much longer. Cons: Poor Food, Poor service, Overpriced more

Horrible Experience---Waste of Money 4/28/2008

Very poor experience; took large family group (13 adults) with reservation on a Sunday afternoon. The store was half empty but service was horrific, was told they would provide 2 servers, yet only one was available, everything took forever, over 30 minutes for salads and an hour for meals.\r \r But the quality of food when finally arrived was horrible; 2 orders of basic chicken undercooked, shrimp served cold etc... very poor quality food, worse than expected at a Dennys or diner type restaurant. left 2 members of our party ill shortly after. Complaints to manager did little but create anxiety with him, \r \r Service was comparable to food, had to ask for everything, basic condiments were not furnished with meal, just horrible overall experience and waste of afternoon. Will never repeat. Cons: total waste of time more

Better Than Most! 1/21/2008

Been to CJ's twice in 2 years and have found it to be a plasent experience. We ate at the bar both times and found the service to be spotty; seems the Bar tender/tendress has to do double duty at the outside ""hot house.""\r Drinks are good, tap ale is marginal, food is good and lots of it! You leave hungry, your bad!\r Lots of large-ness to the place! Clean! Pros: LArge enough so you can think & talk Cons: Cramped parking more

You can pass on this, so much better out there 5/9/2007

The food is just average, not crappy, does the job of filling you up but with such a huge operation and you have got to know that its like a factroy line in the kitchen at all times, with that said, you cant possibly expect great food from such a machine. The service did stink almost to the point where i didnt even want to tip! No check was done with us to see if everything was ok, and this was when it was not busy, the waitress acted like we were such a problem, and we didnt even ask for anything. LIke others I cant understand why this place has people waiting out the door for average American food. ok Pros: lots of menu items Cons: sevice, food is average PEOPLE!! more

Avoid the Tucson Claim Jumper.. 2/19/2007

Have eaten at the ClaimJumper in the Phoenix area many times and thought the new one in Tucson would be as good or better. WRONG... The presentation and portion size were no where the same. I give the Tucson Claim Jumper a POOR rating more

Claim Jumper 12/8/2006

Exceptional customer service, nice atmosphere, clean and the portions are very large. The cost of the meal is fair. \r \r I had the chicken fried steak, it was so greasy that I did not eat it. The wait person knew something was wrong with the meal and sent the manger over who asked if there was a problem with my meal. I said no and the manager removed the charge for the chicken fried steak meal. The sides portions were excellent and I did enjoy them. I am certain that the chicken fried steak is typically excellent since everything else was better than average. \r \r Remember, even the best cook has an occasional effort below the typical standard they produce. We all make mistakes and I would have no problem ordering the chicken fried steak meal again. \r \r You will not go home hungry and there is an impressive selection of deserts! Pros: Fast seating, courteous service, and home cooking. more

The Chicken Fried Steak is out of this World 11/20/2006

Great Customer Service. The best Chocolate Martini in town. Portions are huge and with take home the food is as good the second time around as the first. I don't know who does their hiring, but they have the friendliest staff out of most of the restaurants that I've been in. Nothing bad or even lackluster has been had by anyone in our group who has dined here! If you want desert, you may want to share one meal between 4 people and 1 desert between 4 people....that's how much food you get. Love it...quickly became one of my favorite places to eat. Pros: Quick seating, Great service, Friendly Staff and a menu to meet anyone's taste Cons: no cons here more

huge menu 11/13/2006

I love claim jumper because everthing you order is made to perfection. they have awesome food items and really something for everyone. just be careful because the entrees typically serve 2 or more. more

Top Tucson spot 10/17/2006

Lets start by saying I worked at this Claim Jumper for a year. I can tell you from experince this is one the the cleanest and most well maintained resturaunts in Tucson. The food is the highest grade product on the market. That means it will cost a little more than what your use to but Claim Jumper will make that up in the amount of food they will give you. Second it is the biggest resturant in Tucson seating over 200 people at a time. That means you need to relize that you may be one of the many people in there having a problem at any given time. Bring your good manners and Claim Jumper will treat you right even if you are unhappy with something. For some reason people like to go into a resturants with an ""I am God you must obey me in a timely manner"" complex just rember your server has the ultimate power over your food, so my biggest suggestion is respect your server even if they are the dumbest human you have meet. Act like your better than them and you might end up with a little secret sauce! On the other hand show a little common respect and you may have your best dining experince in a long time. Pros: Huge menu Cons: Huge resturant more

Beer good and cold 10/16/2006

Beer was good and cold but so was the food, waited a while ribs was cold and hard and so was the steak, and mash potatos was hard and old, will never go there agian!!! Pros: cold beer Cons: cold food more

My mother-in-law loves it! 7/24/2006

The first time we went, I thought the service was a bit slow, especially since it was not crowded. However, the food was great. My mother-in-law absolutely loves Claim Jumper. The last time she was in town, we ate there 3 out of the 5 nights she was here. I've had a chance to order quite a few selections and have not been disappointed - the salads are wonderful & very filling. If you are considering dessert, definitely save room! We usually have 4-7 people and have not had a problem being seated within a decent amount time, plus the staff has always been very pleasant and accomodating. Pros: portions and variety of food, friendly staff, nice ambience Cons: slow service more

Best Liver and Onions in Tucson 6/24/2006

I know it's an acquired taste, but you should definitely try it here. This is the best I have had outside the Napa Valley, @ Mustard's Grill. The portion size is immense, with a huge serving of freshly sauteed onions and their wonderfully thick-sliced smoky bacon, this is one of their signature dishes. They have a great selection of steaks and fish as well, but I go there for one reason. The service is very good, less the wait time to get in, but all in all, worth it. Pros: Portion size, food quality/taste, service Cons: Wait time (call ahead) more

NOT for LUNCH! 6/23/2006

I had the worst experience at Claim Jumper. I arrived for lunch with my husband and sat on the patio. We waited for 10 minutes before I had to remind the hostess where we were. When a server finally came we ordered soup and salad knowing we had to get back to work. After waiting 35 minutes and still not receiving our food we asked that our food be made to go and could we speak to a manager. Needless to say five minutes later our food arrived and was not to go. After asking again they took our food into the back and packed it up for us. When the server returned to the table she said ""My manager apologizes and says it is on us"" I feel the manager should have approached the table and apologized. After such a bad experience I will not return. Can you imagine- 55 minutes to receive soup and salad? Pros: Good food and large portions Cons: Service is slow more

4th Time and I have not been disappointed yet!!! 3/31/2006

Lots of good restaurants in the Tucson area.. but this one is on my list of the top 5 for sure. Great setting... friendly staff.. excellent menu choices.. and.. well you better plan on taking half of your meal home with you.. because the portions are enormous. Pros: Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, Great Food Cons: Handicap Parking more

Every time I've been its been great! 2/2/2006

I've been to this restaurant at least 3 times and the only bad thing I've found is the piling up of beverage glasses... when they give you another drink they don't take the old one, and with the size of the glasses being huge, and 3 other people at your table, room becomes scarce. My husband says it has the best fish 'n chips he's had in the states (he's from the UK), I love the California fruit salad (or something like that), the wait staff has been overly attentive IMO... what's not to like? It can be a bit loud, true -- and having 3 meals for the price of 1... leftovers are great! Pros: attentive staff, good food Cons: long waits, too many glasses ;-) more

Dumbest Wait Staff in Tucson? 10/10/2005

Our favorite pizza place was closed on a Sunday night, like everything good in Tucson, and this was the first place we saw to eat. I would like to award the worst waitstaff award to our waitress. She truly can not handle the simple task of bringing food to a table. She spoke so quietly we could not understand her and got upset when we asked her to speak up. She proceeded to ignore us after we told her we could not pick food out in thirty-seconds. While we were eating she decided to clean the booth next to us, ruining my appetite for this dry, overpriced food. When she finally got around to giving us the bill, I had to ask her to return the card because she had left it with the cashier. The area where this restaurant stand was more useful as a parking lot. Pros: it was open Cons: ignorant staff, overpriced, terrible food more
