bad customer service 8/21/2006

The food at Bombay House is good. They have very good pakora and veggie dishes. However, their customer serivice is not just bad it is horrible. The last time I orderd food from Bombay House I placed a take out order. They told me it would take 20 minutes. After 30 minutes I went over to pick up my take out order and was greeted with rude and unpleasent people at the front counter. They told me my order was not ready and I had to wait awhile. My take out order was ready but they did not give it to me. I watched the take out orders behind the counter and the bag they finally gave me after 20 minutes of additional waiting was sitting their the entire time they made me wait. The worker then asked me for a tip for his service. I will never go back to Bombay House to eat. The workers get some kind of kick out of making people wait and lie to them. If you like good food and dont care how you are treated eat at Bombay House. But if you like to be treated with pleasent people go some where else. more

Best Indian anywhere 8/6/2006

Bombay has moved to a new locationjust down the street on Parleys Way in the Kmart parking lot. Their food is still fantastic and the servers have a funny sense of humor. There's plenty of parking and it's easy to access. Try the saag shorba soup, vegetable marsala and chicken mushroom, their wonderful. The prices are medium and ambience is romantic. Pros: Excellent food, Ambience Cons: No reservations more

service still lags 3/30/2006

The new location is great. More seating, endless parking, and no competition from other businesses for that parking. It was a good move! The food is as good as always, but the service is still lacking. The guy running his tail off refilling waters, etc was an exception, but the regular servers seem indifferent to your presence. They take FOREVER to first approach your table. When they do it is just to take your order. Don't expect to speak to your server ever again...not even to ask about your meal, see if you want anything else, give you your check or to say goodbye. If nothing else at Bombay House, the food ROCKS! Don't go for the service. Pros: Food, Parking Cons: Slow Service, Indifferent Service, Lack of Service more

Mouth Watering 3/2/2006

My mouth waters just thinking about eating at Bombay House! We are vegetarian and have no problems finding enough to eat there. Pashwari Naan is great! All of the vegetable entrees are great and vegetable Samosas are to die for! Topping it all off with a Indian beer. I love the atmoshere, I hate the waits. I guess the word has gotten out about this place, because there is always a 30 mins wait, even on weekdays. Also, it would be nice if they were open for lunch and on Sundays. Pros: Vegan/Vegetarian, Mild, Med, or Hot Cons: Closed Sundays, not open until 4pm, Long wait times more

Love the food but hate the service 2/2/2006

I discovered Bombay House after I experienced authentic indian food in Southeast Asia. Bombay House has probably the closest to what I ate in Asia and it has become one of my favorite restaurants. BUT BEWARE...the service could be better. I had reservations but still had to wait for 45 minutes. Once seated, I had to wait a long time for the waiter to take my order and to be servered. I also had a Coke spilled down my back by the waiter and received NO compensation or even an apology. But I will admit, the food keeps me coming back. Pros: Food Cons: Service, weekend crowds more

Beware - They lie about the wait!!! 11/26/2005

Since we have 2 kids, we called in advance to check if there was a wait and were told there was no wait at all. We got to the place in about 5 -10 min but were surprised to see a whole bunch of people waiting ahead of us. We went in and checked that it was going to be a 10-15 min wait. Since we were there already we decided to wait. After waiting about 30 min, I decided to go and check how much longer it would take, but the guy was on the phone which is when I was SHOCKED to hear him lying to someone else that there was absolutely no wait and that it's just ""walk-in"" eventhough there was a large group of people waiting at that time. Extremely disappointed by this exhibition of utter dishonesty by these people. Cons: Dishonest people, Bad Service, Crowds more

disappointing 9/21/2005

I love the smell of Indian food, and when I went into Bombay House, the place didn't smell like Indian food. It was kind of peculiar! The food was also not what I expected and quite disappointing. I don't know how to describe the food, except that it didn't taste like typical Indian food. After reading all the positive reviews on this site, I had pretty high expectations, but it was definitely below average amongst all the many Indian restaurants I've visited. Definitely a disappointment for me and my husband! Cons: bad service, below average food more

Worth the trip! 12/18/2004

My parents being Englishmen and all, and thus prone to eating currys and such, in addition to frequent outings at authentic Indian eateries back home, I feel I know decent Indian food when I eat it. That said, some Indian immigrant friends I know think this place average, although I love it. The ambiance is great, and the place frequently crowded- beware Friday nights! The frequent crowd intimates its popularity. The coconut/korma dishes and the curried lamb are good. Eat the Peshawari Nan at least once in your lifetime- incredible! MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFY THE DEGREE OF SPICINESS, or you may be one of those people refering to this place as 'bland'... These guys'll make it spicy if you ASK! more

bland Indian food 9/24/2004

I have eaten at several Indian resturants thoughtout the Salt Lake Valley and in other states and this is the worst one I have ever been to. The food is bland and does not compare to the food at other Indian resturants. more

The best place for Indian food 8/29/2004

Date of visit: Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 @ 9:30PM. I had the chicken curry and my wife had the chicken saag. Both dishes were delicious. Just the right amount of spices. The chicken saag had spinach in it and it was really good. Perfect portion sizes. We also tried the Raita (yogurt sauce with vegatables in it). It would go great with a really spicy dish. It was cool and crisp. We saw many people from India eating there which is a positive sign. Pros: authentic food, fair prices, atmosphere more

Can we say delicious! 6/13/2004

I'm hungry just thinking about the food. The food is absolutely delicious and perfectly spicey. The service was fine, but could be a little better. The atmosphere is quaint with real Indian servers with turbans. I loved the whole experience and would highly recommend the food to anyone. Pros: Delicious food more

Ghandi eats here!! 5/7/2003

I love the place. All the waiters are authentic Indian doods and they are very much trained to serve you well. Great food. Try the Keema Samosa. Yummy!! more

Outstanding Indian Food 3/30/2003

Bombay has excellent food at a reasonable price. The coconut kurma dishes are particularly outstanding. The basmati rice and naan are definitely worth the extra money to get on the side. The employees are professional, but not particularly friendly (I have rarely seen them smile). Definitely worth checking out at least once. Pros: Not "standard fare", Excellent Food, Fairly inexpensive more

Something new 2/7/2003

The food at the bombay house was delicious. We were in a large group (I can't remember if it was eight or ten) and they had a little trouble getting us in to a table, I would suggest calling for reservations if you go with more than four. Other than that the service was very good and the food was excellent. I look forward to going again. more

best indian here 1/16/2003

Really decent curries, tandoori was too dry, rice wasn't real basmati but was seasoned well. Wait staff good if maybe a little too serious. There is a wait which is okay, The food was brought out promptly and the waiter brought out each dish when ready, as it should be. A little more care and real basmati rice and this place would be better. Pros: Good curries, Seasoned properly, Efficient Service Cons: fake basmati rice, tandoori not right more

Thank you! Come again! 12/26/2002

Much better than I had imagined. I had the chicken tandoori--it was chicken chunks in a pink sauce that was a lot like a tomato cream sauce. It was lightly spiced and had a great flavor--especially when drizzled over white rice. My date had the chicken masala. It was barbequed chicken thighs and drumsticks smothered in cooked onion strings and tomatoes. The meal came with a lot of white rice and some sauces for the rice. We also tried a garlic naan which was a grilled pita with a nice hint of roasted garlic. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable. The servers were Indian and wore turbins which was fun. Give it a try! I think you'll enjoy it even if you aren't a very adventurous person when it comes to food. The portions were very generous for the price we paid. Pros: prices, portion size, service more

Excellence 12/13/2002

If you want to experience India at it's best, this is the place to go. I was taken here the first time just before traveling to India. I was told this was the most authentic Indian in the Valley, and they were wonderfully correct. The service is friendly. The restaurant provides an intimate setting to dine with friends and family. It has become my favorite restaraunt. Pros: Intimate setting, friendly service, excellent food Cons: Busy more

Great Indian food 11/13/2002

We have eaten here about 5 times. 2 times with small children. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and the wait was not bad. We felt a bit bad about the mess the baby made with the rice, but they were great about it and flirted with the child as they refused to allow us to tidy things up. Were very genuinely friendly. All men waiters. You get a lot of good food for you money as well. Pros: Fair price, good food, short wait more

Best Restaurant in Utah 10/21/2002

Bombay House has the best Indian food I've ever tasted. It compares favorably to Indian Restaurants around the country. It's also a good place for a first introduction to Indian cuisine (ask for the '""mild"" version of a dish and your meal won't be ""hot"" without losing any flavor: something that can be hard to achieve). The service is amazing: both attentive and non-intrusive. The atmosphere is both elegant and relaxed. Bombay House is far and away my favorite restaurant in Utah! Pros: Amazing Food, Great Service, Relaxing Atmosphere Cons: Not open during lunch more

Eat as fast as you can! 10/15/2002

Although no one can deny the quailty of the Bombay Houses food, I was not totally pleased with my last dining experience there. The wait was about 30 minutes, which was not bad, but as soon as we were seated I felt like they were really pushing to get us fed and out of there as quick as possible. The server was abrubt, and said a total of about 10 words to us. The check was brought before we were even done eating, and then checked twice to see if we had put money in the folder yet. This is not the kind of service I would expect from the Bombay House. It seems as though its popularity has taken a toll on its service and dining experience. I will be giving Star of India a visit next time. Pros: good food, reasonably priced Cons: rushed service, unfriendly servers, long waits on weekend more
