66 YO- Overall health has improved through massage therapy 1/19/2012

I have the highest regard for Nathaniel's skills as a medical massage therapist. I had a stroke that paralyzed my left side ( face, arm, leg) in March,2007. This was followed by open heart surgery in May,2007 to replace a mitral valve. The surgery went well but I needed a pacemaker five days later. I recovered well with the help of an excellent rehab group and the counsel and medical care of an extremely competent cardiologist and his team. 18 months ago I went to Nathaniel for an ongoing stiff neck problem that I have had for 25 years as a result of sports injuries . Except for surgery I had explored all traditional avenues of care (I thought). After three visits my stiff ,painful neck problem was gone..it stays at bay by being addressed every 3-4 weeks now. I had considered my recovery from my stroke and heart surgery to be complete. However,15 months ago I decided to see if the numbness ,circulation and flexiblity of my left side could be improved through medical massage as well as addressing aging problems ( I am 66) of lower back and hip pain. As an estimate of recovery I would say all these problems have recovered 70%. I started playing basketball again about 4 weeks ago. I lift weights and do Cardio 5 days per week. Massage Therapy is part of the reason i am able to still do these things. more

One Massage Therapist about another 11/23/2011

I've been to MANY, MANY massage therapist and have had some good massages and a lot of not so good massages. Im also an LMBT here in the Triangle and I speak from experience when I say that Nathaniel has exceeded my expectations. I was specifically looking for a therapist that had experience in Medical massage because of some lower back issues a few other therapist were not able to help with and also specifically TMJ. From the beginning, Nathaniel was professional and courteous. He took the time to assess my posture as a good massage therapist would do. His treatment methods were excellent and "on point." He used several different techniques to target my problem areas. Most of them were fairly AWESOME! LOL I hope he doesn't mind if I borrow a few for my practice. He continually upgrades his knowledge on massage modalities. Most recently he traveled to an educational opportunity in Advanced Myofascial Release. I was extremely glad to be his client on his return. :-D I whole-heartedly endorse Nathaniel as your next massage therapist. If you have a musculature issue that just can't seem to get better, he's the professional to see. Michael "Mitch" Meiners Triangle Massage and Bodywork Therapies Garner, NC more

Best Deep Tissue Massage Ever 8/24/2011

I have gone many places over the years to deal with my tension headaches and Nathaniel is the best, hands down. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable about how the body works, but he will show you things to do at home that will help you improve on a daily basis and never tries to sell you anything. He immediately identifies problem spots and is very conscious of how much pressure different areas can handle. I hope he never leaves the area because I'm not sure I could ever find someone else as good as he is. I think he is magic. more

Outstanding service, knowledgeable staff 12/2/2009

Nathaniel was my therapist and he was knowledgeable and very good at explaining what he was doing, why and what to expect afterwords. His work has been the best at addressing my upper back and shoulder pain. Pros: Helpful massage Cons: A bit difficult to find more

Best Massage in Cary 12/2/2009

Staff is very good at listening to your needs and able to quickly pinpoint trouble spots. Also very knowledgeable and willing to share information about how to deal with muscle tension on your own and stretches to do to minimize tension. more

Great Deep Tissue Massage! 12/2/2009

I have had several massages in the past. . .Nathaniel's massages exceeds them all. His massages have helped me with issues such as my back problems and circulation problems. . . . If you have wanted a massage that really works on improving your health, and not just one that "feels good", he is the guy to go to. Pros: Excellent Massage Therapist more

Very attentive staff 12/2/2009

I was battling some muscle injuries and decided to try therapeutic massage. After just a few sessions, Nathaniel had me feeling like new. He really listened to what was bothering me and knew exactly what to do. He even gave me stretching tips and book recommendations to keep my injury from coming back. He is extremely well educated and professional. Now I go see him whenever I just need a massage, and always come out feeling amazing. Pros: Great deep tissue work; Staff listens to you more

Best Place for a Real Massage 12/2/2009

I have had massages at dozens of places over the past several years and none could live up to Body Basics. The space is soothing and Nathaniel is extremely professional. He makes a point to talk over your goals for the session before getting started, no matter how long it might take. He also constantly asks for feedback during the massage (too much pressure, not enough, etc.) so you don't have to suffer in silence like some other places. When I leave Body Basics I am always relaxed and more balanced and often I can even breathe more deeply. This is a great place to go if you want to feel the lasting effects of a great massage. Pros: Listens, asks for feedback, feel the difference Cons: None more

great sports massage 11/10/2009

I'm a student athlete at one of the local collegs and I had been having problems with my shoulder and lower back . One of my friends referred me to Body Basics and even though I was skeptical that massage could help, I felt a lot better even after the first massage. My shoulder hadn't moved that freely and with as little pain in years. It took a couple more sessions to get my back feeling better, but now it is doing really well. Also, the therapist there showed me some new stretches that really helped keep my shoulder in better shape. I will definitely go back if my shoulder or back starts to bother me again. Pros: great pressure and information more

Should pain 6/25/2008

I can?t say enough good things about Body Basics. Nathaniel helped me with shoulder problems. My other option was surgery. Thankfully, Nathaniel had the patience to work with me and understand the problem. He went above and beyond during my initial visits to understand the problem in order to increase my range of motion and decrease the pain. His knowledge of the mechanics of the shoulder and treatment options helped me regain the use of my arms. He answered many, many questions patiently. I can?t thank him enough for his patience and time. more

Finally, real deep tissue massage! 5/5/2008

Ok, I've been to quite a few other massage businesses around Raleigh. They always say that they do deep tissue massage but it always turns out to be work that is too light to be of any use or it is just a therapist pressing really hard on muscles that already hurt. I got a little relief from that stuff but nothing worth going back for. Recently, I checked out Body Basics because of a friend's recommendation. Man, I was impressed. The guy there really knew a lot and explained all of my questions. Even better, the massage work was right on. No one has come close to doing that level of work for me. I felt so much better. The main reason that I am writing this review is because it has been three weeks since my last session and I still feel great. Awesome. Pros: All around great value for the improvement in my pain Cons: nothing more

back massage 7/23/2007

I went to Nathaniel after injuring my lower back landscaping. For about three weeks I self medicated myself with a steady intake of Advil and Aleve. I could dull the pain during the day but around 5am every morning I would wake up with back spasms. These spasms caused my back to be extremely tense and knotted. I eventually made an appointment. I have now gone twice and my back pain is remarkably less. I sleep through the night and I can feel the injury is actually healing. I wish I had gone earlier. I would recommend Body Basics to anyone. Pros: very professional and knowledgable Cons: no cons all pros more

The best relief for my back pain! 4/24/2007

I was referred to Nathaniel at Body Basics by my doctor to help my back pain. I have had fairly chronic back pain for over a year since a work injury. I have tried painkillers, muscle relaxers, and even physical therapy with no real change. I was a little skeptical that massage could help since my only experience with it was when my wife dragged me to a spa a ways back. The massage there was kind of relaxing but so light that it did nothing for my back pain. However, since my doctor assured me that Nathaniel could help, I set up an appointment. I was surprised and impressed by both his professionalism and knowledge. He explained what muscles were causing me problem and answered all of my questions. At the end of the session I stood up and was amazed by the improvement. My back felt more relaxed and mobile than it had in a long time. I could barely even feel any pain when I moved around. Nathaniel showed me some stretches that have been very helpful in keeping my back limber. I have seen him 2 more times and my back keeps feeling better and better. I just can?t say enough about the value of this service! more

Exceeded all expectations 10/25/2006

I have had several massages in my life, but none with a male therapist. I thought that I would be uncomfortable, but Nathaniel was very professional and put me at ease right away! I have a great deal of neck and back pain from my profession. Nathaniel knew just how to relieve each separate tense muscle. It was not only relaxing, but very therapeutic. I haven't had neck or back pain in weeks! He is very thorough and in the end makes sure you feel better. He even showed me stretches that I could do to help my tight areas. Nathaniel is obviously very committed to his work. I am so pleased, and I have referred many people to experience his gift of healing. Pros: Real ability to reduce pain and stress more

Excellent Massage Therapist, Highly Professional 10/8/2006

I have tried massage from time to time to relieve muscle stress in my neck, shoulders, and lower back, with mixed results. Nathaniel is the first therapist who not only took the time to explain the what he was doing as he went through the massage, but he assessed the problem areas and applied specific techniques for my particular pain. During the massage, he continually checks to make sure that he is applying a comfortable amount of pressure, and he is always professional and makes me feel completely at ease. He also takes the time afterwards to show stretches and ways to strengthen the back muscles to prevent further strain. His massages are completely effective in reducing my back and neck pain. Pros: Knowledgeable, Effective, Convenient Cons: None more

Most knowledgable therapist I've ever encountered 10/8/2006

I saw Nathaniel for an overuse rotator cuff injury that continued to give me pain a year after being diagnosed. Not only did he have a knowledge of anatomy & physiology that would rival the best-trained physician, he took the time to explain exactly how the muscles worked together and how best to address the pain I was having. He was incredibly professional, listened to my needs, and made sure he worked my shoulder enough, but not beyond my comfort level. His rates are very reasonable, he had appointment times that worked with my schedule, and even showed me stretches I could do at home to help my recovery. I'll be back without a doubt! Pros: Knowledge, Rates, Professionalism Cons: None more

Fantastic for deep massage! 10/5/2006

Nathaniel does an incredible job on deep massaging. Extremely knowledgeable - I like his pre-med background and in-depth knowledge of the body. He takes time to understand the crux of the problem, not just work on the problem area. Very professional, as well. Pros: goes deeper than most massage therapists, and constantly checks to make sure pain level is tolerable. more

Great first experience. 10/4/2006

I had never had a massage before, let alone by a male therapist, but Nathaniel was extremely professional and he knew so much about anatomy and muscles. He found problem areas that I had no idea about. I felt fantastic when I left and I will definitely be going back. Pros: professional with a lot of knowledge more

Helped resolve my carpal tunnel pain 10/4/2006

I do a lot of computer work and in the last year my right hand has become increasingly problematic. It has been weak or painful to use. I saw a specialist who recommened surgery but I didn't want to go that route. I was referred to Nathaniel at NR Body Therapy by a friend and within 4 sessions my hand and wrist felt great and I have had no pain since. Fantastic! more
