The Best Sushi in Town! 12/18/2007

I do have to say that it can be a little hard to find and you don't expect the beautiful decor that waits for you on the inside but once in you will find that the staff are friendly and the service is wondeful! Better yet..the sushi is fresh and tasteful. I have been coming here since they opened and being the picky sushi eater that I am this is one of the very few places that I would reccommend hands down. I have brought many friends and once they come they keep coming back without me... not sure if that's good or bad. lol Great place however!!! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience and Value more

Beautiful Sushi: Beautful Mood 8/9/2007

The Food: \r The sushi looked like little flowers. Each one of them had beautiful patterns that burst with color. And these little flowers came with their individual sauces. I always tend to feel guilty eating something that looks so beautiful (since I am in the art business myself), but the guilt soon washes away that warm soft fish goes down my esophagus. That sushi is so good.\r \r The Mood: \r Very trendy / artsy, relaxing, and romantic. The perfect date spot: I would definitely take a guy here (you, know? if I were dating).\r more

great service, great food, great experience 8/9/2007

unlike the previous reviewer who was displeased with the service, i thought the service was AMAZING. our waitress took our orders with a smile, and i was impressed at how she got our orders right without writing it down. i consider myself a sushi snob, having tried some of the best sushi in NYC and Japan, and I consider Blue Fin among the top without a doubt! Eveything (seaweed salad, sushi rolls, drink, dessert) was very thoughtfully presented -- bold with lots of colors, and GENEROUS portions of fish. I especially liked the chef's creative and delightful spins on many of the standard sushi-restaurant fare. everything came out fresh, appealing to the eyes and palate, and I was pleased with everything I ordered, including dessert. \r \r (also, my drink was not ""cheaply poured"", nor did I feel that the strip mall was ""scary"" ... it's close to Royal Oaks, and there are lots of other restaurants and businesses in the area.)\r \r Pros: everything: drinks, food, decor, service, dessert, even the bathroom more

top grade sushi, romantic ambience 7/31/2007

I went with a big group of friends and so I got to sample a lot of different types of dishes. All the sushi was super fresh - among the best quality you'd find in Houston. \r As a girl, I loved going to the bathroom! The design is so beautiful I felt like a princess, and the sinks were straight out of a Kohler commercial (I just love architecture). Althought you wouldn't be able to tell from the outside, once you walk in the ambience of the place was really romantic with the comfy lounge seating and the cool lighting. \r My favorite part was the dessert - as always! MM if you go you Must try the Mochi ice cream at least once in your lifetime. It's perfectly soft and chewy rice cake on the outside even though it's frozen, and ice cream on the inside! Also, I really appreciated our server. She knew the menu and was always available to answer my questions, even as she was busy walking to other customers. She had a bright, friendly attitude and even took pictures for us! Pros: Mochi ice cream dessert, Romantic ambience more

Disappointing 7/30/2007

I have been an avid sushi lover for years and enjoy eating out at least a few times a week. I recently went to Bluefin with a couple of friends and it was very disappointing on almost all aspects from service to food. The only enjoyable thing was the decor, which i will admit is very pretty. The server came out and was quite rude and short. I am not someone that expects too much but when they act like you're a nuisance is unacceptable. Our bill was way over 150 easy and service should be included. I don't care about spending money when the food is worht it but this was not the case. The food came out and we all agreed that it was oversalted and dry. The sushi didn't have the texture and clean taste you experience at countless restaurants in the area. The drinks we had was all really weak and cheaply poured. I can understand why it was pretty dead in the restaurant. None of us will be returning when there are so many other japanese restaurants that offer so much more. Pros: the decor Cons: food, service, the fact that it is in a scary strip mall more

Great sushi quality! 7/28/2007

Great atmosphere... Sushi was great, good quality and very tasty. Sooo much better than those sushi buffets, and you can eat till you get full at Blu Fin for roughly the same amount as paying for a sushi buffet.\r \r Highly recommended especially to those with easy access in the Westchase/Westheimer/Beltway8 area. more

Great place to dine 7/27/2007

Working at a resturaunt myself, I was very pleased with my experience there. Starting from the hostest, she was very polite and got our big party (13-14 people) sat in a timely manner, especially for a saturday night. After we got sat, our waitress was very prompt and we were greeted right away. For our first time being at Blue fin, she answered all the different questions that our group had. After ordering, the food came out very promptly and I must say, it has been a while since I have had great good like that. After just stuffing our faces with the different delicious entrees we had, our waitress very kindly described the different desserts they had to offer. My recommendation would be the mochi. It was an interesting twist on desserts because it was basically a rice cake with different ice cream flavors inside. At first i was sceptical, but my waitress assured me that it would be delicious, and it really was. I would have to say the strawberry and the coffee flavored mochi were the best ones. Just my whole experience there was pleasurable and it would be a place I would recommend to all my friends. Pros: Great atmosphere to go along with the great food. more

Premiere Sushi Dining Experience 7/27/2007

Sushi hasn't always been on the top of my 'favorite' foods list, but it's been a taste I've been acquiring over the years. My experience at Blue Fin definitely moved it up a notch, and I'd be hard-pressed not to say that my dining experience here was one of the best as far as sushi is concerned. The food was super fresh and the waitstaff never failed to cater to our needs. Since this is also a fusion-esque restaurant, you get a very elegant/sophisticated ambiance to go with your perfectly prepared food. The selection and style of rolls were innovative and unique, although you can also get the traditional-type rolls we all know and love. My glass was mysteriously full all the time, an example of the kind of service many of us desire (being served without constantly being interrupted... i.e. silent and efficient). Of course (for those who cringe at the idea of anything raw), there is an assortment of dishes you can order off the grill, as well. It definitely was an all-around great experience that I hope to relive again in the near future. Check this place out... You won't be disappointed. Pros: Great food and top-notch service Cons: I'll let you know if I ever encounter any. more

The Best Sushi in Town 7/27/2007

I'm no sushi expert, but I do understand a few things from having worked at Miyako's on Kirby as a waiter. I've eaten everywhere from Azuma and Kubo's (Rice Village), Nippon (Montrose), most miyako's (Westheimer, Kirby, Little Miyako's), Oiishi, Taiko (Hillcroft), even a hole in the wall place like Sushi Rock (Holcombe). Blue Fin is simply the best. Naturally you pay a little more for such quality, but you definitely get more than what you pay for here. From the Sushi to the Decor to the Ambience, everything is first-class, even their amazing bathroooms with square shaped automatic sinks. Be sure to get some mochi-ice cream to finish off your meal, and don't let the distance to the place deter you, you won't regret it. Pros: Ambience, Elegance, Happy Taste-buds, Amazing Decor, Bathroom Cons: Too much good food makes you want to keep spending. more
