Anyone else? 10/17/2015

I saw Dr blackam for my 8 week pregnancy appointment. He wanted to do a pap but I'd had one recently. He still insisted on a pelvic which I declined due to my husband now being present and feeling very uncomfortable. His response was very defensive and very rude. He seemed to take offense to me questioning his authority. I had never seen a male doctor before for obgyn care and was just hoping he would be reassuring instead of so cold and angry. I never returned to the office. I thought it was also strange that he has no nurses on staff works alone and doesn't take better care of his office. No paper on the table real pillowcase on the pillow. I hope it was washed. Medical instruments in dusty coffee mugs and just doesn't look like a sterile doctors office. Has anyone else had the same experience? more

Amazing man 8/18/2012

Dr. blackham is amazing! I cant belive anyone could put him down. I have endo and he did amazing with my stiches. He even called me later that night after my surgery to see how I was doing. I love this dr. I have one child and if I can have more he is my dr. if u dont like his blunt whitty sence of humor somethings wrong with you. He says things to break the ice and explaines things in english not medical terms. My whole family loves this guy. Wounderful man. Best obgyn ever! more

Excellent 8/15/2012

Shocked 3/2/2012

I am very shocked to hear someone make comments that Dr. Blackham has a dirty clinic. It is a very clean and sterile environment. He is very witty, smart and showed true concern for my situation. I am possitive that some have mistaken this Dr Office for another. I love this OB/GYN and will travel all the way from Issaquah to see him. If you a unsure... Go to his office, check it out and ask to see the examination rooms. I think it is sad that someone would make false reviews and not let a women get the chance to have one of the best OB/GYNs. more

Dr. Blackham is AWESOME! 11/15/2011

I switched to Dr. Blackham during my third trimester. It was my second pregnancy and I'd had a poor birthing experience with my first. I'd heard that Dr. Blackham actually attempted to prevent tearing and episiotomies, unlike most OBs these days. Since I'd had a level 4 episiotomy with my first baby (different OB), I was very apprehensive about delivering my second baby. Dr. Blackham was AWESOME during delivery. He was supportive of my desire for a natural birth and with his support, I was successful! I delivered an almost 9 pound baby and Dr. Blackham didn't have to cut me like my previous doctor since Dr. Blackham actually helped me to not tear and stretch out for delivery. I wouldn't trust any other OB to ever deliver my future babies except Dr. Blackham. He is kind, patient, thoughtful and actually cares about his patients. When you call the office with a question, Dr. Blackham calls back, not a nurse. I love that! He also gives you his pager number during your last few weeks of pregnancy. Most doctors do not do that! And he is more likely to actually be there to deliver your baby, unlike other OBs. Dr. Blackham is the best and I only wish I had gone to him for my first baby! Following my first baby's birth, my previous OB called to check on me a total of zero times and visited me in the hospital a total of zero times. Dr. Blackham stopped by my room a couple of times after my baby was born and called me a couple of times as well. The best part is that he gets out his guitar after your baby is born and sings you and your baby some songs. He goes the extra mile and loves his patients. I love, love, love Dr. Blackham! more

Poor hygiene practices 10/22/2010

I feel like Dr. Blackham is a nice man and a smart and capable doctor in most regards, but office conditions and hygiene practices are pretty shocking. His office is dingy and dumpy, and his medical instruments just sit out on the dirty tables collecting dust and germs and who knows what (he doesn't even set his tools on a clean paper towel, everything's just out on the little wooden tables or jammed in a coffee mug). His speculum sits in a tub of water on the ground. His floors look grimy (I can only hope they're merely stained, not actually dirty). There are crusty bottles of iodine sitting about, and almost-empty tubes of KY jelly just sitting there on the table. Even the box of rubber gloves is dirty (how does the BOX get dirty??). His water cooler and drinking cups are about two feet from the toilet, inside the bathroom (GROSS). There is no garbage can receptacle by the bathroom door, so you have to touch the bathroom handle with your hand, not a paper towel (because you have nowhere to throw the paper towel). Everything just looks and seems filthy, with all tools stored improperly. His own hygiene practices are really bad, too. I've noticed he opens and closes the (visibly dirty) garbage can with his hand (instead of with the foot pedal) to throw something away, and then doesn't wash his hands. He also doesn't wash his hands before standard office visits, which involve him touching and palpating your entire belly. I'm not a big fan of the cloth dressing gowns or the cloth pillowcases on the exam table, either, not with the rampant bedbug infestation that's going around everywhere. I hope he washes and dries everything on HOT. Anyway, he seems like a capable doctor, except in matters of hygiene. I would really, really like to see him clean things up around his office, and start some healthier habits and practices, and at LEAST wash his hands thoroughly before every visit, even if you're not having a full pelvic exam. His office needs to have a heavy-duty cleaning and bleaching and scouring session. more

Kind, Gentle, and Thorough... 7/13/2010

Dr Blackham has delivered 5 of my 6 children. He has delivered my sister's baby and both of my brothers girls. He has delivered my grandson and will be delivering my newest grandbaby. He is gentle with his approach and detailed in his assessments. I would recommend him to any of my friends who have infertility problems or are just needing someone to provide good care. Excellent care and very personable 7/2/2010

I've been to Dr. Blackham for my OB care over the years and I've had excelllent care. I really feel like he listens to my concerns and when needed he tested under a miscroscope right there in the office to make a diagnosis. I admit he doesn't have the fanciest office or furniture but I always feel comfortable with the care. I have family and friends who have also been very happy with Dr. Blackham. If I lived in the area he'd definately be delivering my baby. more

A wonderful doctor! 4/26/2010

Dr. Blackham was my ob and delivered my daughter. If you wold like a doctor who is experienced and takes a personal interest in your care rather than being a number, Dr. Blackham is your doctor. He is compassionate, available, and incredibly competent. I had an awful experience with another practice during the beginning of my pregnancy and found absolutely no fault with Dr. Blackham as a doctor nor with his practice. I would recommend him to anyone! Sara Z. more

Great OB - expertise & compassion 3/23/2010

Dr. Blackham was my OB for my VBAC last January. I was very please with the care I received. I interviewed Dr. Blackham after learning that my previous care provider had a "C-section at 41 weeks" policy for VBAC patients that was not medically necessary, but was in place solely to protect the practice from litigation. I brought a list of questions to the interview, and was pleased that Dr. Blackham answered them all very candidly and realistically, giving specific medical reasons for his preferences and requirements. During my prenatal care, he continued to treat me like a partner in my health care. I had an uneventful pregnancy, but whenever I did have a concern he was able to answer all of my questions promptly. Dr. Blackham delivers at Northwest Hospital, which requires EFM and a heplock for at least VBAC patients. While I was in labor, he stopped by to check on me personally every couple of hours, increasing the frequency to every 10 to 15 minutes as I got closer to transition and pushing. I opted to have some pain relief during labor through IV during transition, and Dr. Blackham worked with me to find the appropriate medication to "take the edge off" without impairing my ability to move or leaving the baby or I sleepy after birth. My baby was handed to me immediately after birth, and when they did take her to weigh her, etc., the number of procedures was kept down so that she could get back to me before she was interested in nursing. I did not ask for these things - it was simply "how it's done" - but I was very pleased. During the entire labor I felt like I was respected and listened to, but was also confident that I was receiving excellent and expert medical care. Immediately after the birth, Dr. Blackham played some guitar music for us. By coincidence, the first song he played was the entrance song played at our wedding! He made our birth not just a medical event with a healthy outcome, but also a memorable family experience. more

One of the best Doctor in Seattle! 3/2/2010

I was so lucky to find him as my doctor during my first pregnancy,,, he is the one who delivered my baby girl, he is kind, very passionate, very professional and definitely a doctor whom I can trust, I recommend him to all!.. more

Awesome Doctor 1/22/2010

Dr. Blackham was my doctor for two pregnancies and childbirths. As a nurse, I appreciated the fact that he did all patient care himself. He does not employ a nurse because he does all the assessments himself - no delegation of his duties. I have referred him to friends and I will forever be grateful for his excellent care. more

An OB/GYN for life! 11/28/2009

Dr Blackham is the absolute best MD I've ever had. I've known him for 20+ years and I'll never change. When I moved from Seattle to Maple Valley, WA I kept seeing him, despite the long distance. He delivered my two children and is wonderful!! more

Dr. Blackham Saved Me! 7/27/2009

Dr. Blackham is absolutely terrific! He was willing to submit to my very scrutinizing interview and answer all my questions. I worked in health care for 11 years and had had an extremely bad vaginal delivery the first time, which required a c-section for the second time around. So, I grilled him with questions and had several things I wanted to have a say in that are not "standard" procedures during pregnancy and c-sections delivery. Dr. Blackham was completely respectful of my medical knowledge and personal wishes derived from experience. I had interviewed other OB's who were extremely offended by my candor and desire to be a "partner" in my health care. Dr. Blackham was completely the opposite. He went to work doing all he could to facilitate my wishes (none that would compromise my or our baby's health, of course!). He was also willing to research a little used treatment for my pregnancy condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which I could not get other OB's to even look at. We tried the treatment with a conservative approach and it saved me from being hospitalized and spending my entire pregnancy just trying to survive (literally!). It saved my family from not having a mom (functionally anyway, as I was a lump on the floor on IV's and home health care). His office is small and not fancy, but comfortable and puts me at ease. I love the fact that he is not rushing patients through and cares about your comfort and modesty as a woman. His wife sews "moo-moo's" and real cloth cover-ups so you don't have to fight paper gowns, feel exposed to the world and cold. His receptionists have been wonderful to me. Dr. Blackham called me back on nights and weekends when I was so sick (before the treatment could be used) and has never made me feel rushed or like I was disturbing him. He is the perfect combination of extremely professional and knowledgeable along with being truly caring, respectful, and willing to "think outside the box" to provide excellent care for his patients. Dr. Blackham is the best! more

Best Gyno Ever 4/17/2009

I've been to maybe 20 gynecologists in the last 7 years. I've been misdiagnosed, hurt, ignored, and generally treated poorly. Dr. Blackham made me feel comfortable, diagnosed me in a matter of minutes and followed through with treatment in a caring way that totally involved me. Most importantly, he listened. Sure, he doesn't have a nurse, and he performs paps with no supervision after the first one, but I'd rather have a good doctor than a huge staff. more

Best there is 3/24/2009

Dr. Blackham is the kindest most caring Dr. I have been to. My care was excellent and his staff most accomodating and professional. His exam rooms are clean and inviting. As an older woman, I appreciated his candid views on my medical problems. He is an excellent surgeon with great follow-up. I highly recommend him. more

Dr, Blackham is AWESOME 1/26/2009

I can't believe that bad review of Dr. Blackham. He doesn't need a nurse because you deal directly with him. When you have a problem a nurse doesn't call you back he does, that way you can ask questions. And as for her complaint that he spent time talking to her in his office what's with that? The guy was trying to get information on what her problem was. This doctor helped me through two miscarriages and 2 successful pregnancies and a host of other problems and I have nothing bad to say about him. If you want a doctor's office in a medical park go there. He is not a puppy mill like most medical offices today. I have only good things to say about him! more

Dr. Blackham-Great at diagnosing problems, good at Endo surgery 1/13/2009

After YEARS of female gyno's dismissing my chronic intense pelvic pain, FINALLY Dr. Blackham was able to diagnose and treat my Endo. I could not disagree more with the lady who based her review on Dr. Blackham on fear instead of fact. It's because he's willing to do an exam himself rather than rely on non-invasive tests only that he finally diagnosed me. He gave me the SURGERY I needed instead of being a coward, more concerned with liability than the care of the patient. If you want a fancy building with glass sculptures, and the "latest technology", go to a fertility clinic with an icy cold overstaffed and overpriced and well suited downtown Posh doctor. If you want comfortable good care and a doctor who is willing to do the exams himself and the tough diagnosis based on YOUR unique symptoms and YOUR health, go see Dr. Blackham. I only wish that there were more doctors like him rather than the expensive and cold clinics set up by more "current" doctors who refuse to ever take a risk on behalf of treating a patient. When I am finally able to get Pregnant I will be willing to drive all the way from Maple Valley out to see Dr. Blackham. That's how good of a doctor he is. He really cares and deserves trust and respect because of his reputation. He doesn't need a hospital and a fancy office because he's a good doctor, not a fake. more

Wonderful OBGYN 6/26/2008

I found Dr. Blackham 12 years ago before I had children. Once I became pregnant, I was happy that I could still use him as my OB. I have been a patient of Dr. Blackham for 12 years and am extremely happy. He is a very hands on physician, which is hard to get these days. Even though I have moved from the area, I still go to him. He has delivered both my children and I have always referred him to my friends. For anyone who wants a doctor who is a mix of natural and conventional medicine, he is the guy for you. I will always be grateful to Dr. Blackham for a happy healthy pregnancy that produced 2 beautiful children. This guy knows his stuff and his staff has always been courteous and helpful. I can't imagine he would hire anyone who would not be as he takes his profession very serious. I will always remember my first childbirth experience because he was there from beginning to end. His wife took photo's of the birth and he played the guitar afterward. Thanks Dr. Blackham, Rachel more
