Chef Alan Batson, Great Chef & Great food, wonderful seasonal menus 7/28/2008

Great Chef and Food. Great meal & wine. Southern, French & Brasilian. Local food Pioneer. Best seafood in area! Followed for years, Wife & I always enjoyed. Excellent restaurant & staff. Ask for tasting menu by Chef (great deal). Pros: great Chef & food, excellent staff Cons: Wine pricey more

Best Meal in Triangle 7/28/2008

BEST MEAL in area and one of best chefs in State if not Nationally. Based in Chicago, I travel all over and have always had perfect meal. Most recently at Per Se in NY ( AT RECORD $) Did not compare to recent meal in Cary. Great Restaurant Southern Star and now the Bistro, Chef is consistent, specials are great and Chef has large Local and East Coast following. Highly Recommended, Great wine list & service. I am always remembered and treated great. Pros: great food and wine Cons: decor ok more

for better for worse... the same alan batson 7/24/2008

Like the title says; this is an Alan Batson restaurant for better for worse. Mr. Batson is an extremely talented chef, no doubt, and has been around Cary for quite some time now, however this restaurant seems to be almost identical to the unfortunately failed Southern Star. His style is no doubt unique, if overly complicated, but if you ever ate at the Southern Star you will be disappointed in the lack of freshness in Mr. Batson's menu. His plate presentation is nice, but a bit overcomplicated and could be toned down. The entree should be the main focus of a dish, not random sides and garnish. I always wondered why a place would hire a man to replace their menu with one that couldn't support his own restaurant. Pros: Great to try once, Awesome drinks, Perfectly cooked food. Cons: Not worth the price, Redundant Alan Batson menu, Garnish takes away from the entree. more

Infalliable 6/18/2008

I went to Citysearch to locate the 10 best restaurants, and bistro 64 popped up. I visited their attractive website which realed me in. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 5 year anniversary and we decided Bistro 64 was the spot. more

Quite Elegance 4/6/2008

I have dined here twice in the past week. Both occasions where very private. The wait staff is unobtrusive yet remembered me on my second visit. The Mahi specialty was the best I have had in the area, the bread is unique as well. Their wine is is more than sufficient. The price is very reasonable. Oh, and the lounge singer is wonderful. Pros: Lobster bisque Cons: Non-smoking more

Know when to say ""NO"" to volume 3/29/2008

Went with a friend last night for drinks but there was a lounge singer there. Now look - I have no problem with lounge singers, but be smart enough to put only 20 square feet of noise in a 30 square foot bar. (Give people room for conversation.) There was NO way to talk with anyone while the music was playing and/or the guy was singing. Not to mention everyone was having to talk so loud OVER it that it was even more obnoxious. more

Loved it as much as Second Empire 3/15/2008

This is a first-class fine dining restaurant in Cary, and we have never been disappointed. The service is always terrific. We love the live music at night in the bar. The soups, appetizers, entrees really feel chef prepared every time. The presentation of food is beautiful. The seafood is always fabulous. We loved this place so much that we held our wedding rehearsal dinner here, in the private room. They designed a personalized menu just for our group, and made us feel special. As a trained chef myself, I would put Bistro 64 at the top of places to eat in the Triangle, along with Second Empire, Bistro 607, and Fraziers. more

Wonderful 11/2/2007

I and three of my friends were on retreat. And we were staying at the Homewood Suites, we wanted to go some where nice and Bistro was next door. It was wonderful service, from the time we walked in until the time we left. I have to say we were the only 4 Black peopl in there and we were very pleased with the service, atmosphere, and food (wow...Tilapia......oh wow!). Edwin was our waiter, he was polite and patient. The staff was attentive and had great manners. I will definitly be coming back/ The prices were high, but it was worthit! Pros: Wonderful atmosphere and staff Cons: A little on the expenseive side more

I disagree 3/12/2007

I too have dined at both the Cosmopolitan and now Bistro 64. While I agree that the menu used to be very similar(before the Chef change), I completely disagree that it is now ""boring."" On my last 2 visits, I have had escargot (for the first time and it was great), fois gras, scallops and lamb. Everything I have had to eat has been tremendous and the service is always excellent. If you have dined in Cary recently you will probably agree that the Bistro is head and shoulders above any other offerings we have. more

what happened? 3/10/2007

My wife and I have eaten in this building 3 times in the last 2 years. The first time we went it was the Cosmopolitan and we absolutely loved the food and service. We have always loved what the chef and owner of Bloomsbury did in Raleigh but were blown away by the food in his cary restaurant. We hurried back for a second vist to find the new bistro 64. We were excited to check out the new place but were dissapointed that the Cosmopolitan was gone. We had a really great meal but noticed that the menu seemed exactly the same as before. I can't say the food was executed as well as it was on our first visit though. We were told that the assistant chef had stayed on board in the new place. The last time, a few nights ago, we went back and were very dissapopinted with our meal. The current menu style there now is a little boring. All the meat and fish dishes come with the same starch and vegetables, kind of like what you expect at a high end chain place. On top of that it just wasn't done right. my steak was overdone and had a bland sauce. My wife's chicken dish was uneventful but tasted O.K. The owner was there and was very nice and checked on our table. We are not the complaining type and didn't care to let him know we were not happy. We used to think nothing of driving to Cary from North Raleigh on occassion but won't be in a hurry to make the trip to this place again. Pros: service was great Cons: food was boring more

Best Upscale Dining in Cary 2/3/2007

One of the best new restaurants to open in Cary in a long time. The food, staff, value atmosphere are all outstanding. Will (the owner) has done a great job in assembling his staff and creating the excellent dining experience. The menu changes often and offers dishes not found in the triangle area. This restaurant definitely feels like one of the small intimate fine dining restaurants that you would find in Atlanta. Pros: Location, Satff, Menu more

Great Place for a date 1/3/2007

This is a really great restaurant. If you are looking for a place to take a date or have a romantic dinner out with your wife, this is the place. The tomato basil bisque is great when available. The tables are spaced far apart and the seating is comfortable. I also went here for an office party and it was an ideal place with private room for a group af about 20 of us. Free Valet parking is nice as Macgregor can get crowded around dinner time. Try it soon, you will like it. Pros: Romantic Setting Cons: None really.... more

Fabulous steak, excellent service! 11/23/2006

My husband and I are also world travelers, but we disagree with one of the previous reviews. Both my husband and i were impressed with the quality of the food. The restaurant was very cooperative with our group, especially when so many did not keep their reservation. The appetizers were delicious and not overbearing. The soup was delicious and the steak very tender and perfectly done. Others in the group also commented that their entree was also perfectly done even when they did not have the steak. more

overrated and overpriced 11/18/2006

We have dined all over the world so we know what good food is. We went to Bistro 64 with a large group tonight and it was clear that the restaurant took advantage of the fact that we were with a group by giving us a fixed price menu that offered little choice at offensive prices. There was nothing special about the meal. My husband had salmon and I had a strip steak complete with cold mashed potatos and a large piece of tasteless boiled broccoli. This along with a couple glasses of wine came to $160.00 for the two of us. Oh yeah - we could also have gotten chicken as well for the same price. We will never go back. I will be surprised if this restaurant stays in business. There is no way we will ever pay these prices for such mediocre food again. The previous reviews must have been written by employees. Pros: good location Cons: overpriced mediocre food more

Straight up.....WOW! 8/11/2006

Tonight we went to Bistro 64 after we heard that the old Cosmopolitan crew, under new ownership, had stepped it up a bit. We wanted to see for ourselves. We dine out a lot and always loved the Cosmo but wanted to give the new entity some time to settle in before we visited. After tonight, I'm sad that we actually waited. It was phenomenal. From the time the valet opened our car door to the time we got back into our car, Bistro 64 treated us to the best experience we've ever had in the Triangle over the last 15 years. Bobby Hinton was jammin' in the bar. Matt makes great cocktails. When we were seated, we were greeted by an ""amuse"" from the chef of casaba melon with aged balsamic vinegar. The menu is unbelievable. It was so hard to choose what we were going to eat. The wine list is outstanding. Some older vintage wines and some newer cult wines. Our server was a charming lady,Mikio. Ask for her. Her service was hospitable, polished, and efficient. And she never stopped smiling. Half way through our meal, the new owner, Will Massey, stopped by to confirm that ""everything was perfect"". And it was indeed. Every morsel of food placed on our table was proof that it really can be ---That good! Bravo chef! We will be back! Pros: FOOD! SERVICE! ENTERTAINMENT! GREAT WINE LIST! more

Delicious food, attentive service- all in Cary! 8/5/2006

Who says you have to go to Chapel Hill or Durham for a great meal? The food at Bistro 64 was excellent. The service was first class and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The leek and rock shrimp hushpuppies were to die for and the salmon was delicious. If you are looking for a nice, quiet restaurant in the Cary area to enjoy a romantic meal, this is your place. The menu is innovative and the staff, accomodating. Pros: Great food, great service. Nice variety on menu. Great prices for type of place Cons: Tables for two are SMALL! more

One of my best meals ever! 7/15/2006

I had eaten at this restaurants former identity the Cosmopolitan Grill and let me tell you, for a place that has the same Chef and many of the same employees, they have taken it to a whole new level. From the ""amuse"" course from the Chef to the attentiveness of absolutely everyone, it has to rank as one of the best meals I have ever had...period. The owner checked on our table twice and was constantly available. The service overall was great and the food was among the best I've ever eaten anywhere in the world. I can't believe it is our own, right here in Cary:) Pros: Ambience, Service, FOOD!!! Valet Cons: Not open for Sunday Brunch yet. more

Upscale Dining 5/3/2006

If you are looking for an upscale restaurant that will keep you coming back for more, this is your spot. They serve New American Cuisine in an intimate setting and have an extensive wine list. The service was great and while you wait they have a bar with live music and great drinks. Pros: Upscale, Great Food, Great Service more
