Finally discovered Beso 11/3/2011

I've been reading about all the hype around Beso for years and finally made it out to Hollywood to check it out, and i have to say, i am very pleasantly surprised! First of all, it's in the heart of Hollywood and there's a lot going on in the area. It's just 2 blocks from the Pantages...we made it here on a fluke after a show and had a great time! The mood inside is dark and sexy with great lighting, nice high cielings and cool design..it looks like it might've been a studio o something at one point..it definitely has an Old Hollywood vibe. The hostess was super friendly and we didn't have to wait for our booth, which gave us a great view of the main floor and the bar and lounge, it was really busy for a Friday night - there was a private dinner party going on across from us and the vibe was great! We had a great server (forget his name, but super helpful and really knew the menu, which is so rare these days) who paid attention to details and recommended my new favorite red wine! After hearing so much about Eva's guacamole and reading the reviews, i have to say it was way better than i expected. We tried that and the Margarita flatbread with the Bibb Salad for starters..that bread was so good with the queso fresco! We shared The Chili skirt Steak and pork chops - and i have to say - they were both delicious! Great seasoning on the steak and the pork chops with mole was incredible! The truffle mac and cheese was beyond good - i got stuffed too soon, otherwise i would've gone for more of the sides. It all sounded so good!! All in all, a really fun night out and a great meal in Hollywood..would definitely come back! more

Editorial
  • Todd English, yet another East Coast chef gone westward, has enlisted the help of Eva Longoria to give his famous Olives restaurant a Spanish twist both in flavor and name--"beso" is the Spanish word for "kiss." The two-story space, opened in 2007, is just what one would expect from a Hollywood hot spot: Huge sparkly chandeliers, twinkling candlelit tables and lots of girls in halter tops. The menu features Latin-tinged fare like shrimp-and-chorizo flatbread, seafood paella, chili-rubbed steak and a slew of unusual tacos, but the real reason sceney types flock here (aside from the Longoria connection) is the adult juice bar--a glammed-up lounge where mixologists whip up signature cocktails like the Blueberry Patch (gin, St. Germain, fresh limeade and blueberries) and C Clearly martini, a concoction of Domaine de Canton, vodka, carrot juice and fresh orange juice.
