Awesome place, great beers, really cool service. one downside: the imported cookies are overpriced (but worth it... )

Good beer not good service 7/14/2010

My girlfriend and I decided to head over to Belmont Station for Sourfest this past weekend. I have to say that the selection was alright and the bartender seemed to be interacting with me ok as well. I ordered up a beer he thought may not be to my liking so he offered me a taster of it and what he recommended I should get. I have to say it wasn't too bad but definitely a far cry from what I'm used to being around. The atmosphere was so-so and after being in for less than an hour sitting at the bar, the vibe I got was that we seemed to be taking up space as opposed to the bar staff being friendly and talkative. That wasn't too bad but when we headed over to the bottle side I had a couple of questions about 2 bottles they had from Hair of the Dog to which the guy behind the counter made me feel like an idiot for asking and when I questioned him on the release timeframe for Sierra Nevada's 30th Anniversary brew, he told me to ask someone else who wasn't in that day. Someone inside of Belmont suggested that me and my girlfriend should try Beermonger and we are so glad that we did. The service at Belmont was mediocre at best and it honestly felt that they were eager for us to be gone instead of having us stick around to spend a bit more cash. They also jack up their pricing to compensate for credit card charges so if you're paying with plastic, expect to pay higher amounts on their bottle shop side and I believe their bar as well. There's better bottle shops in and around Portland, I assure you. Nothing is worth this kind of hassle. Pros: Excellent selection of brews on the bottle and bar side Cons: I should've have charged them for the bad service more

Good Beer, bad service! 7/5/2009

The Beer side of this shop is awesome, the employees are friendly and very helpful. But, DO NOT go to the ""bar"" side of the place. Service is some of the worst in town. The moron bartender, refuses to just do his job, which is to serve beer, be friendly and maybe once and awhile smile. The food is something my dog wouldn't eat, unless he likes rare bacon, which is what this dumb dumb bartender put on my sandwhich. I refuse to belive that someone could be that stupid, so the only conclusion is that this action was purely done out of malice. I suggest going to The Horsbrass two blocks away then going The Station to get beer to go. Pros: Best Beer Selection in Town Cons: Worst Bar Service in Town! more

Poor service and added gratuity for three people 8/11/2008

I've been a fan of Belmont Station for a long time, but the last time I visited to have a beer with two of my friends the bartender was less than par. We were sitting outside and the bartender was cleaning a table and I asked if I could order another beer and he told me to order at the bar even though he was right there. I didn't quite understand the reason for ordering at the bar as opposed to ordering from my table but I did it anyways. After finishing our beers I got the tab and paid with a credit card. I tipped the bartender $3 for a $23.75 tab even though his service was poor. Two days later, I reviewed my receipt to see that he had added a $3 gratuity charge in addition to a $20.75 tab making my tab a total of $23.75 plus the tip I left him. I am not happy about this. His service sucked and he had the audacity to slip in a gratuity fee for THREE (not 6 or more which is standard) people! No where on the receipt does it say ""gratuity added"". Be aware of this if you go there. I will continue to shop at Belmont Station in the future, but I will make sure that I voice my concerns to the owner. Pros: Awesome selection Cons: Poor service more

Belmont Station is The S%*+! 5/31/2008

Of course, Belmont is a classic; very nearly a category leader (Beer) and always a destination if you want to buy beer from people who know their stuff. Their excitement is contagious and the atmosphere is great. For those of you who have to occasionally visit grocery stores (beer is food in my opinion, but I occasionally eat other things), you must drop into the West Linn Market of Choice. Ok, its kind of far, but their beer selection is by far the best of any grocery store in the city. I bevieve they have more than 400 different beers, mostly single serve and lots of interesting stuff from places like Brazil, Belgium, Poland, Croatia, Australia, U.S., and all places in between. Beer geeks must see it and it complements Belmont Station well. Pros: One of the best beer destinations in the state. Cons: I wish it was closer to my house. Can you move it to Northeast? more

best beer store in Portland hands down 7/30/2006

great store, great beer, good people. you may have to park a few blocks away. near movie madness and the horsebrass pub. what more could you want in life? more

awesome beer selection 5/27/2006

Portland's home for *non-skunky* beer, great staff, good selection. Big selection of mead, cider, some wines. Sorted by region. Kegs can be ordered in advance or picked up from a good selection. Pump rental. They just got ice. They're moving to a bigger location soon. Pros: variety, people know beer, good time Cons: need patience if busy more

Freshest beer selection, knowledgeable staff 5/26/2006

Guaranteed fresh beer, unlike other places that may have a larger selection. Everyone who works there knows beer and can steer you in the right direction. All the seasonals and hard to find beers will be here. Soon moving to a new location with adjascent beer bar (July?) Pros: fresh beer, kegs, helpful staff more
