Our Experience Was Both Different and Better 3/4/2007

Our cat had fight wounds and an abcess on his hip. The first vet saved him but sent him him home with a tightly wrapped IV stint still in place. Late that night his paw was swollen and his claws were turning blue. We called the Emergency folks and they advised to cut the wrap, pull the stint, and massage his paw. Of course there was no fee. I thought they cared. This morning Tony is walking on all four paws: full weight on each, no limping, and is his usual self again. Sounds to me like your dog was too shot up to make it and the hospital did a triage-type decison. I'm sorry your dog died but you should not blame the hospital. more

Die while you wait 1/27/2007

My best friend, Louie, passed away yesterday. He had been attacked suffering multiple lacerations, a punctured lung, a broken rib, multiple bruises, multiple deep wounds, major blood loss and brain damage from being severely shaken. He was a trooper in spite of dying less than 24 hours after I found him. My heart is broken and my anger is deep. My anger begins with his attacker, whom I will probably never find. My anger also goes to first hospital I took him to. He was never examined as I was only told to fill out the paperwork. I filled out the paperwork and waited. When I confronted the guy behind the desk, I was told he could not tell me how long I would wait - there were other patients, one who had been hit by a car. I understand that Louie was not the only patient, but I also know that his injuries were very severe. The lack of compassion by these hospital employees sickened me. I decided to find Louie proper care and was informed as I was walking out of the door that I would not find anywhere else in the Baton Rouge area open to care for Louie since Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital is the only after hours animal emergency care clinic. Yes, Louie was my dog - I know to some that means nothing but to me he meant the world. I was able to find someone to care for Louie, Dr. Liz Patterson, in St. Francisville. Louie was treated immediately by Dr. Liz who gave both Louie and I so much compassion. I guess all things happen for a reason and if we would have stayed at Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital Louie would have never received the compassion which he received from Dr. Liz, he probably would have died in the waiting at Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital. Louie was a very loving pet, he never met anyone who didn't immediately fall in love with him. I can only hope that my message saves other pets from the lack of humanity that Baton Rouge Pet Emergency Hospital seems to thrive on. more
